I kinda dislike aged 3D Graphics. 2D Stuff mostly looks great, but 3D not so much. I actually like Dooms look quite a bit more. Of course, it was much more primitive, but the 2D sprites as Enemies and terrain look better to me, then Quakes 3D Models. That being said: It's fucking Quake. Wether you like the Graphics or not, you'll have a fantastic time playing it, and the look actually complements the game quite nicely. I certainly wouldn't want Quake to be remade in a newer Engine.

Epic doesn't even have the old Unreal games on its store yet but they have been on Steam for years. They don't seem to think they will make money and the last version of Unreal Tournament is there for free but not sure how popular that is compared to modern games.

Haven't been trough that stuff. But as a Child, I had a N64 (still have it. Not giving this bad boy away anytime). Maybe around 2005 or 2006 I discovered Emulators. It was MINDBLOWING to be able to Play that N64 on my freaking PC! Imagine how I stared, when I booted up OOT on my Computer for the first time at age 11 or 12. Nowadays, allmost all N64 Games run on any fucking Toaster. I've seen people Emulating it on a Smartwatch, and I played trough it on GPD XD+ Android Console with HD Textures.
Also I hope an enhanced version of Quake 2 would fix the polygon wobbling in that game. The player models and weapon models in Quake 2 engine games wobbles similar to polygon based graphics in 3D PS1 games.
That already happened, kinda. There's an RTX version of Quake 2 you can get, providing you own an RTX20** or RTX30** which is hard to get with so many miners buying them all up!
My quess is that we will get multiplatform releases of all numbered Quake games (Quake 2, 3 & 4), maybe they could even for the first time ever add an official campaign in Quake 3 that can be played in co-op somehow, if that happens?

I got it on the Switch about a week ago on sale. While I'm not the best at FPShooters, it was incredibly accessible with easy difficulty and the game is just nice to play. The shooting is satisfying, the movement even more. Even on easy difficulty there's some challenge. I'll wait some time (and a sale) to play the 2nd one. Go play it.

Playing this game originally with my friends when I was a teenager and now as a guy in my 40s I can attest to this awesome remake being one of the best I’ve ever seen! Keeps everything as original as possible but gives the game a well deserved facelift😝👍 plus if you’re a fan of the original you can make it look as old school as you want with all the extra options👍I have it on the series X with game pass, but had to try the gyro controls on switch, and they do not disappoint. I’m gonna have to spend another 30 bucks on top of that 10 just to own this one in physical form from Limited Run Games😋 Great review! If you’re watching this video then do yourself a favor and go buy this on switch immediately after😄

I bought this as soon as it hit the eShop, and was very happy with all the love and content this updated port of Quake received. I was thrilled to see they even included Quake 64. Crossplay & gyro controls are just icing on the cake.
One of my newer favorite games. Absolutely deserve the score and the multiplayer is awesome. Even on switch it has keyboard and mouse support, voice chat, and private lobbies. For $10 it's one of the fullest packages on switch.
I can't believe this is a thing! I've been wanting a port of Quake for years now, and then bam! Here it is. Couldn't be happier with the love and care they put into this. 10/10. Also the soundtrack from Megadeth's Cryptic Writings album pairs fantastically with the original campaign. Cheers!
You picked it up, played it for a short while and after maybe a few weeks from now you won't play it again. You'll keep it installed for a few months, though
God the Nintendo switch has had me hot....I really like how it is sort of a mix between a semi current stuff/old nostalgic stuff and almost like lower tier PC stuff. with out modding it HAS to be the best handheld system playing stuff from Duke 3d to Jedi outcast while just chilling out is truly undeniable...

I.looove Gyro Controls! Like in Warface...I could never go without it. After playing Warface on the Switch for over 500 hours and one Day then trying Warface on the Xbox, I knew how valuable the gyro control is!
The Switch version has a severe audio delay of arround half a second, I've never seen it this bad in any other game before. Hope they patch it soon. Also, let us switch to the N64 music.
I have had this problem with several Nintendo consoles. For me, It's a console sound issue and not a game issue. My Snes mini does it, my wii U did it, and now my switch does it. I've found if I turn my console on and then my tv, it fixes the issue. It has a hard time with syncing sound correctly if the tv is already on when I turn my switch on.
Playing this on PC and Switch. Switch version suffers from audio delay, bad analog control and frame skips. I'm a bit dissapointed as I expected it to be on par with the pc as it's such a old game. Doom also suffered from similar problems on release but they did fix it.

I've heard nothing but praise for this game on Switch in every review. However, I've seen numerous posts on various platforms about the original music soundtrack not working on Switch ... but it's never mentioned in the reviews. Is this a real problem with the game or only effecting a few people for some reason ?
I have been thoroughly enjoying it as well. I also mirror your opinion on a gyro controls being awesome in this game. Originally playing it with keyboard and mouse on the PC I figured I'd have a hard time playing it with a controller. But it turns out that I'm blasting them no problem.! :-)
Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, and Heretic II are sadly owned by Activision, as they purchased Raven Software in 1997. Wasn't actually a bad thing for a long time, Raven even made Quake 4 and Wolfenstein while under Activision's ownership. Sadly, they've been chained to the CoD machine since 2010, after Singularity didn't sell as well as Activision expected.

Boy, you weren't kidding, this is fantastic. I have it on my onexplayer too but the Switches gyro makes this version the better version. Played it for hours today. One of the new levels (factory in lava) might be my favorite Quake level of all time
I don't have the Steamdeck yet and I loved the idea of pocket Quake so I got the it on Switch Lite thing fits in my pocket. Also it has tilt control on Switch and if you adjust the control setting right and use the controls stick then use to the tilt to make small adjustments it makes not have mouse and keyboard not as bad
I remember playing Quake to death when it came out and then when Quake 2 come out my friends and I would play multiplayer in the IT room at school at lunch time. We had such a wonderful time one of our teachers would join in every now and then too. This was all when video games and esp PC gaming really wasn't mainstream so we used to get so much shit from the 'sporty' kids who were playing football in their 'Kickers' and listening to dance music wishing they were in Ibiza....ahem... Anyway.... I bought Quake for Switch straight away and it really is a game that will never not be fun for me. I was always a Quake Fanboy and this is just joyous! Plus I miss being a teenager in the 90's...
Picked this up on switch since it's on sale, not the best with a gamepad but still surreal to play on the go. There was a great homebrew on the wii called wiiquake or something, but it had amazing motion controls similar to the cod series on wii. Would be cool to see them bring motion controls in an update that would set this apart from the other releases
Damn had no idea Quake was on the switch! I don’t even have the console but am stoked about it. I remember playing this back when I was 10. My parents bought me a Dell computer for Christmas and gave each other kids a game. My sister had Lego island, my brother trespasser, and me this game.
Just a note. There are some weird issues at some area where you will bounce around about, without holding the analog stick. Not joycon drift. It happens at some areas eg. The last dragon boss.
I’m trying very hard to enjoy my experience with Quake on the Switch. It’s just doesn’t play as smooth like Doom 1, 2, and 64. I love the way it looks and stuff, but it just jitters, lags, and controls are awkwardly chunky and weird. I can’t get used to it. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I’m having too much trouble playing it.
It can drop frames pretty heavily, think it may be leaky/inefficient memory wise - it's particularly pronounced in the expansion episodes with more ambitious maps and more enemies onscreen. I had initially thought it was due to the Ambient Occlusion as disabling this setting seemed to improve things greatly, but even with that setting disable, it can regularly get pretty choppy.
For ten dollars? Yeah it’s worth it, there are still a few bugs when playing over the internet that have yet to be addressed but it’s still very fun :)
For some reason, in the latest years FPS games get me motion sickness fast. I get sick just by watching this fast moving RUclips video. It didn't use to be like that when I played Doom and Quake back in the 90s. I'm getting old :(

I remember 1996 (got my playstation with crash bandicoot then) a place nearby had a lan where you could go in and game and play Quake and Warcraft 2 (pc gaming was amazing back then as well)- really amazing and next year? Here in Sweden I got mario 64, final fantasy 7.... the dawn of 3D gaming for us and it was AMAZING!
I watched this video a while back when I was hyping myself up before I bought Quake for my Switch, but now I am watching it again after having played it and just wanted to gush about it. As a newcomer to this series, I can confirm I Quake is 11/10.😌👌
though I have them on Xbox One ( though Quake was merely downloaded via Gamepass ), I still need to get Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Turok, Turok 2, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake for Switch just so I can have them all portable ( also Ion Fury, which nails that retro feel...wish it and Quake had cheats on console though, just to have more fun. ). Such amazing classic FPS games. Hopefully Turok 3 and Quake II will get the remaster treatment eventually as well...
At ten dollars the amount of content and care put into this port is absolutely worth it

The closest thing I can relate to (I’m 22) is using emulators on smartphones. The DS emulator impressed me the most.

The nostalgia of Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast still makes me smile. Quake on the Nintendo Switch is a welcome addition indeed.
Hopefully, since the game will admit addons and mods it would be awesome if they put Quake 1.5, Arcane Dimensions and Slayer Testaments mods.
On pc someone ported Malice to the remaster which was a game built on Quake 1 now in mod form. Hope to get Shrak too.

However, I've seen numerous posts on various platforms about the original music soundtrack not working on Switch ... but it's never mentioned in the reviews. Is this a real problem with the game or only effecting a few people for some reason ?
It works but it's ridiculously quiet, there supposed to be patch on the way to fix the problem.

I have been thoroughly enjoying it as well. I also mirror your opinion on a gyro controls being awesome in this game. Originally playing it with keyboard and mouse on the PC I figured I'd have a hard time playing it with a controller. But it turns out that I'm blasting them no problem.! :-)

Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, and Heretic II are sadly owned by Activision, as they purchased Raven Software in 1997. Wasn't actually a bad thing for a long time, Raven even made Quake 4 and Wolfenstein while under Activision's ownership. Sadly, they've been chained to the CoD machine since 2010, after Singularity didn't sell as well as Activision expected.

The ring system is better. It makes up for the fact that console players don't have dedicated keys for each weapon, unlike PC players.
@@DarkLink1996. no weapon wheel worth it's salt should force the player to stop moving lmao it's poorly implemented.
There's a shitload of buttons free, we should be able to use our own weapon binds.
Besides, the dpad selection is backwards, it selects the weak weapons first lol so bad...
This is, in my opinion, one of the best FPS ever made.

Boy, you weren't kidding, this is fantastic. I have it on my onexplayer too but the Switches gyro makes this version the better version. Played it for hours today.

I don't have the Steamdeck yet and I loved the idea of pocket Quake so I got the it on Switch Lite thing fits in my pocket. Also it has tilt control on Switch and if you adjust the control setting right and use the controls stick then use to the tilt to make small adjustments it makes not have mouse and keyboard not as bad

I remember playing Quake to death when it came out and then when Quake 2 come out my friends and I would play multiplayer in the IT room at school at lunch time. We had such a wonderful time one of our teachers would join in every now and then too. This was all when video games and esp PC gaming really wasn't mainstream so we used to get so much shit from the 'sporty' kids who were playing football in their 'Kickers' and listening to dance music wishing they were in Ibiza....ahem...
Anyway.... I bought Quake for Switch straight away and it really is a game that will never not be fun for me. I was always a Quake Fanboy and this is just joyous! Plus I miss being a teenager in the 90's...

Picked this up on switch since it's on sale, not the best with a gamepad but still surreal to play on the go. There was a great homebrew on the wii called wiiquake or something, but it had amazing motion controls similar to the cod series on wii. Would be cool to see them bring motion controls in an update that would set this apart from the other releases
Damn had no idea Quake was on the switch! I don’t even have the console but am stoked about it. I remember playing this back when I was 10. My parents bought me a Dell computer for Christmas and gave each other kids a game. My sister had Lego island, my brother trespasser, and me this game.
Just a note. There are some weird issues at some area where you will bounce around about, without holding the analog stick. Not joycon drift. It happens at some areas eg. The last dragon boss.
The combination of puzzles and combat still holds very fun game
I’m trying very hard to enjoy my experience with Quake on the Switch. It’s just doesn’t play as smooth like Doom 1, 2, and 64. I love the way it looks and stuff, but it just jitters, lags, and controls are awkwardly chunky and weird. I can’t get used to it. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but I’m having too much trouble playing it.
Absolutely beautiful on Switch runs so smoothly - loads of fun!
It can drop frames pretty heavily, think it may be leaky/inefficient memory wise - it's particularly pronounced in the expansion episodes with more ambitious maps and more enemies onscreen. I had initially thought it was due to the Ambient Occlusion as disabling this setting seemed to improve things greatly, but even with that setting disable, it can regularly get pretty choppy.
This looks better than new pokemon games from GF...
I played it 20+ years ago with a keyboard on a pentium 2 white pc alongside age of empires, tomb raiders lol

For ten dollars? Yeah it’s worth it, there are still a few bugs when playing over the internet that have yet to be addressed but it’s still very fun :)

Doom 1&2 should also have been a 10/10. Sadly they were muddled with that Bethesda account sign up bull mess, but today they are absolutely perfect.

For some reason, in the latest years FPS games get me motion sickness fast. I get sick just by watching this fast moving RUclips video. It didn't use to be like that when I played Doom and Quake back in the 90s. I'm getting old :(

I remember 1996 (got my playstation with crash bandicoot then) a place nearby had a lan where you could go in and game and play Quake and Warcraft 2 (pc gaming was amazing back then as well)- really amazing and next year? Here in Sweden I got mario 64, final fantasy 7.... the dawn of 3D gaming for us and it was AMAZING!

I watched this video a while back when I was hyping myself up before I bought Quake for my Switch, but now I am watching it again after having played it and just wanted to gush about it. As a newcomer to this series, I can confirm I Quake is 11/10.😌👌

though I have them on Xbox One ( though Quake was merely downloaded via Gamepass ), I still need to get Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Turok, Turok 2, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake for Switch just so I can have them all portable ( also Ion Fury, which nails that retro feel...wish it and Quake had cheats on console though, just to have more fun. ). Such amazing classic FPS games. Hopefully Turok 3 and Quake II will get the remaster treatment eventually as well...
