#NintendoSwitch #Quake2 #Quake
For those that don't know, Quake 2 N64 is completely different than Quake 2 PC. All new levels, and it's really great. The color palette is different as well, it's more purple'y. It definitely deserves a play through
NOT AS GOOD AS THE SEGA SATURN VERSION
Speaking of different versions - Does anybody else have issues saving on Quake 1 for the Switch? There's no menu option and my download isn't auto saving nor saving between level completions. Makes it a total waste to play unless I play from start to finish in one sitting
@@esperago i had no problems, and I went through the whole game. Have you tried deleting and redownloading?
@@Oculed1 i haven't played that version. Is it all new levels as well?
@@kevinbuchanan67 I made a mistake. Forgot that it was Quake 1 on the Saturn, not 2.
Me and my dad always played quake 2 on N64 when it first came out.. We played together to try and get through each level. I've still got the game in my collection, and I'm 34 now and my dad's 62. Brilliant game with so many awesome memories. Will definitely pick this up.
I got a huge backlog of games to play, but I'll buy this tonight anyway, to support developers that put love in their ports of beloved classics! They did a amazing job with the first Quake as well.
Nightdive have done it again. Already bought this today and I cannot put it down. Its an amazing release and so much content for such a small price tag is just mind blowing. All devs need to take a page out of nightdive’s book because this is how you do a remaster properly. Bloomin brilliant.
@michaelboys2602 Panic button has done some awesome things with the game Doom Eternal.
@@walterlewis1029 They are good, but when it comes to remasters, nobody does it like nightdive.
@@walterlewis1029 Wrong comparison. Nightdive only do remasters and remakes, and they never fail.
It's the only thing they do. They never make own games.
The year of incredible remake/remasters with all-time classics Quake 2, RE4 and Metroid Prime. Love it :-)
This is an incredible release for Nightdive, they once again prove why they are are the masters of remasters and add to that that PC players get it for free for owning the original game, absolutely delicious and it come with absolutely everything, the expansions, a new expansion, the multiplayer, Quake II 64, it's all absolutely bloody amazing
Yep. Nightdive is legendary for their remasters, because they know how to do them and never fails.
Even their full "System Shock" remake they spent years on delivered. Nightdive can always be trusted.
🙌 Switch 🙌 woooo! 🎮🎮🎮
Hopefully the high speed Quake III also get a remaster.
Owned the original on PC..so happy it was just gifted. This will be my favourite game release of my life
This is NightDive? It would be something if they brought this to the Atari VCS, seeing as Atari bought the studio.
I hope Rockstar Games is taking notes on what a "commercially accurate" re-release *ACTUALLY* is.
I bought it the moment it came out but I didn't realize it had Online until watching this review. I clicked on Multiplayer once and it popped up the controller pairing screen so I assumed it was local-only. The menus are a little tough to figure out, but once you get in there you can set up online co-op sessions for all five episodes. This is incredible.
Meanwhile Rockstar is asking 5x the price for a mere port, not remaster, of RDR.
ufff.. I have no money to spare for RDR.
Now, bring on Quake 3!
I'm not sure if I ever played Quake 3.
Lol
Just what the Switch needs. Another old game again
Don't think switch can handle that.
@@knuclear200x You must be the joy of parties.
I essentially had this free on Steam as well as Xbox Game Pass, but decided to also buy it on Switch to show support to the devs of this amazing package.
Wow
These type of releases are the ones that should be celebrated. Not the lazy ass efforts of Rockstar.
I hope the highly talented team are working on the godly Quake 3: Arena... and Quake Wars after that. Quake Wars derserves a new lease of life.
Quake 4 will likely get a remaster as well, considering its the direct sequel to Quake 2.
To see so much love poured into an old game like this truly warms my heart. I was 10 years old 97 and while I did play Q2 ALOT in multiplayer in my early teens I dont think I ever played through the full campaign. Well what better time than now
This is why I love my Switch and play it more than any of my other consoles including my PS5. I think I'm more impressed with doing much with little than just sheer power.
Too bad it doesn't really have anything
If you have a Switch and Steam, you are pretty much sorted.
It's equal for me.
@@knuclear200xit doesn't have anything? Oh crap, what have I been playing and enjoying for so many years?
@@mrp73 A bunch of XBox games, it seems
It looks great on oled switch
I am old enough to remember having Quake I & II back in the day. This is just amazing. Its so good I ended up buying it for switch and ps5. Portability for trips away and such and then 120fps on ps5.
Id software have always been somewhat focused on the people. Remember they left Quake 1 open source so the modding community could literally have at it day 1.
Not sure if it were the same with Quake II but given that we've already got about 6 ad ons on the remake thus far, is it hard to imagine we'll get the same with this absolute GEM of a game.
Quake III arena next ....
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
"QUAD damage" 💪🏻
Please, Nightdive, PLEASE do Turok 3 next.
I’ve played Quake 2 for a very long time online still. This enhanced version is nice because for many years even the Quake 2 steam files was missing the soundtrack. Yamagi Quake 2 was the work around. However I bought this on my switch and it’s fun to see more content with out going to a random server and downloading a bunch of crap that doesn’t work properly or some random nonsense. The N64 maps were designed for 4 players, but now with multi platform capabilities and more players the N64 maps are a blast. My only complaint is the latency between players and their host servers. If there was alternatives to set up the server with one my alternate Linux machines I would be the middle ground server in the States. It’s fun none the less. Just need some dedicated a “couple” dedicated servers that are not over seas or so far away. 9 out of ten recommendation.
Microsoft soon owns ABK, and i hope Microsoft also will hire Nightdive to remaster Hexen and Heretic games.
It's a cheap way to get more content on Game Pass too, and besides these Microsoft funded remasters more or less always comes to Switch too.
Any Quake on a local multiplayer is always worth a playthrough.
Alex!
Great video as usual!
Real quick!: This game looks brilliant, but I’ve never played a Quake game before, does one NEED to have played Quake “1” before diving into this one?
I do notice that it (Quake 1) is on sale on the eShop at the moment..🤔
Thank you, kind sir!
No you don't. It's a totally different, separate narrative. Quake 1 is definitely also worth playing though.
@@lucas_swart
Great!
Many thanks!! 🙏
Quake 2 and Quake 4 share the same canon. But Quake 1 and 3 are separate games.
Mostly want it for the co-op. And since it's like $4 now seems a good time to grab it.
I grabbed this the second I seen it release, there is absolutely nothing negative I could say about either Quake 1 or 2’s Switch ports or the remasters in general.
10/10 job by Nightdive
This takes me back
These developers deserve my money I got this as free update since I have Quake 2 in my game library. I decided to give them my 10 dollars for the Switch version, I can honestly say the joycons are not good for this game but you can hook up a keyboard and mouse on switch to play it like the PC version . Get this game if you love old school shooters. Sonic Mayhem soundtrack still holds up.
It's such a great package. I was disappointed when the original quake port didn't get local wireless play, but they went above and beyond with the quake II remaster
Here's to hoping we get quake III with crossplay and the full suite of local multiplayer options... That's the one i have nostalgic memories for
I had as much fun playing this as I did back when it released, especially since I've never had a chance to try any of the expansions.
This right here is a prime example of how you should remaster retro games.
I'm definitely gonna buy Quake II at the eShop!!!!!
Great port and that they included Quake II 64 was a sweet bonus. I hope they release the beloved Q3A and one of my guilty pleasures, Quake 4. Imagine Quake 4 In the special build of the Doom Eternal engine made for the Switch port! The Strogg would look so much more maniacal and badass.
Played this badly back as an 8 year old on a demo but will now try playing it through not as badly as a 33 year old. The price point is also excellent for a switch title.
Just got both on a recent sale for less than $10.... so far running through Q1 and its expamsions.... so far its excellent and probably plays better than it ever did, and in the palms of my hands!!!!
I'm spellbound
This is a fantastic package. Currently playing through on Game Pass but I will be getting it on Switch for the gyro controls. My only complaint (and it's a tiny one) is that the N64 version doesn't retain the unique UI and menus made for that version of the game. That N64 version had it's own distinct vibe and the unique HUD, menus and fonts were part of that. Outside of that, it's amazing. 10 dollars is an absolute steal.
The Outro is HILIARIOUS!
It's on sale right now for 4 bucks!
The only thing I wish I had more is the Metroid Prime Remastered motion controls. I know, that's with a soft auto-aim (to lock on a target you still have to manually aim at using the gesture controls), but otherwise most console players will still be stuck at easy or maybe medium to be able to beat the game.
Same for Doom. I wish Doom had those as well. I hope they consider it for a Quake 3 remaster.
The way games should be treated.
Quake II is on Limted Run Games now for pre-order.
Standard Edition
Special Edition
Ultimate Edition
Only if you don't mind waiting 10 years for your copy.
I saw that but wasn't sure if it was the exact same developed game, remaster, MP, extra campaign etc?

So Alex is the first person shooter guy of NL?
an absolute classic, this game was already a bit of a classic when I played it but it is an all timer.
Quake 2 also has 8-player split screen.
I’ve got this on the Switch, where is the music?!
I wonder if the N64 pad works with the N64 quake 2 🤔🤔🤔on the switch??
Playing through now loved that this had left handed weapon carry back in the day ........but now find peeking corners difficult in left hand
I know this is not Switch related, but can we take a second to appreciate that if you owned Quake 2 on PC already, this was just free! They just gave you this remaster, for absolutely free! Like, what is going on here 😂
IKR I love it
The cool thing about the original demo was every time you played through it, they would add more enemies to surprise you.
I love the MP always find lobbies,
One of my favorites! Super cool game all around!
Good game, y’all should get it if you like classic shooters
Does the game vary much in multiplayer between Quake 2 and Quake 2 N64 maps- just curious!
Really enjoying this. Not played it since the XBox 360 version (I can't even remember what game it came with). I hadn't appreciated how much of an influence it had on Doom 2016.
After not playing the PC original for so long... The one thing that really stands out today, some of the enemies look a bit small. It's almost as if this was a design choice back in the day just to save some CPU horse power for other things. 😉
Can't bring myself to use a controller for this classic
Gyro makes it less painful
As someone who also struggles playing classic FPS with a controller, I can say the gyro controls make this hands down the best way to play on console.
Is there a physical release?
One of the best games of 2023. Just a total blast.
Now Nightdive, please fix those horrible sound bugs in Turok 2.
Why didn’t they do this with Goldeneye???
Copyright issues constantly with 007 Goldeneye 😢
Better off buying the real thing on an n64.
Apparently this is considered music according to RUclips
More of this!!
The game looks crazy fast, like faster than Halo and CoD, almost looks too crazy to control. 🤷🏻♂️
😂 I see characters literally flying across the screen.
Can I start here or do I need to play the Original?
classic sonic games with what? 8:57 I don't understand what you are saying here
I feel like I need to turn in my gamer card because I’ve never played any of the Quakes (except on N64 a couple of times).
never too late to get into them! both are the most accessible shooters I've ever played.
@@That_Lady_Charlie I did mess around with Quake on my Series X and I was shocked how well it holds up. Truly id at the top of their game.
And don’t tell anyone but I was never that big a fan of Doom. I love the reboot but the originals I never fell in love with. But that’s probably just a product of me being a console gamer for most of my life.
@@leeartlee915 not a real excuse as original doom had many console releases including really old funky ones like the snes and 32x on the genesis. you had plenty of opportunity to play a nice version on the ps1 or the completely unique version on 64 which is close enough
@@phalxor I played Doom on PC. I didn’t have one but my friends did. It’s obviously a seminal release but I just never loved Doom. Just a personal thing.
The controls feel really fast, my movement and aiming feels so quick, has anyone found a good set of settings which they find easier?
welcome to quake. if you are on the switch I can't help you as that isn't a real control scheme but if you are on a computer try lowering your sensitivity. if your character is moving too fast try the walk or crouch button sometimes
Wait, is this a digital release only?
@nelsonartemio4218 The Physical copy is coming soon in Sept 2023.
Its now 3,99 in the e shop
This game looks very good on the Nintendo Switch.
Can you host a lan game with pc and uwe your Nintendo switch to join...with out the online shit to buy for the switch
Oh yeah Quake is king!! Love these games so much
Guys I want to say firstly this is not a hater comments I just need to give you all the facts to get the best recommendation. I did not like Doom on switch. I always want to give well loved games a chance. This looks a lot like doom and it just doesn’t look fun. I almost want to buy it just to try but I’m not sold. Given everything I’ve said should I skip it or give it try?
Quake 2 multiplayer is has amazing has quake 3
I hate to say it. But feel like they need to revisit ultimate doom and doom 2 to at least add online play.
And it’s only £7.99
They could have charged £50 as that’s more commercially accurate 😉
What does cracking mean ?
In British English it's basically "extremely good".
Let's just be honest. Is it ever * really * enough waffling?
FOV slider wins!
almost exactly?
Worth every penny
And more!
For 10 dollars it is absolutely worth it.
i want halflife 1+2
Well someomle excited.
Watching this is making me queasy. haha. I don't get along with FPS games sometimes.
I’m nauseous just watching the review 🤢
😮😮🙂🙂🎇🎆✨️😘😘
No, Quake 1 & 2 should only be experienced in VR on Quest2
Said no one ever.
@@FelixS. You must be a VR Virgin. I played Quake VR on Quest 2 with the guns in my hand and it is amazing.
Sure thing Jobe. You're not tricking us that easy
>NEW SWITCH GAME
>it's another game from 1997 *again...*
I guess another old classic, yeah.. but it puts food on the table. 😅
@@sparkypack yeah but I remember a time when Nintendo worked hard
You know it's on other consoles as well. But I guess Sony gets a free pass from you like usual.
@@Kirbydude96 it doesn't. Now what?
@@knuclear200x Then go to Playstation videos and complain about the ports too. That's what you should do. Instead of acting like the switch only has ports.
Its hard to play in handheld, everything looks so small. Its very hard to aim at targets and shoot them, you barley see the enemies
