Big Trouble. Great comedy written by humorist Dave Berry. Steller cast: Tim Allen, Stanley Tucci, Jason Lee, Tom Sizemore, DJ Qualls, Renee Russo.... But ... The end scene revolves around dragging a nuclear bomb onto a plane.... The movie was released Sept. 2001.
I mean, yes and no. These are all great movies for sure, and they qualify for this video based on the the fact they weren't big financial successes, but they all turned out to be a success over time as cult classics. I thought you were going to show movies I haven't already seen.😂
I was in death to smoochy. The scenes on ice were filmed in the maple leaf gardens in Toronto. Robin Williams helped me with math homework and signed the sheet without me asking. I also got to play catch with Danny Devito a couple times. Both good guys.
I love so many of these movies. The Life Aquatic, Almost Famous, Punch-Drunk Love Death to Smoochie, Idiocracy, Donnie Darko, Speed Racer... So many classics. I probably still own all of those movies on DVD. Oh, and Walk Hard, is the best Musical comedies ever!!!
Death to Smoochy is definitely a hidden gem not Robin Williams best movie but still a great movie also if you haven't seen it check out One Hour Photo with Robin Williams it's wild
I don't believe Kate Hudson or Phillip Seymore Hoffman was that popular when Almost famous dropped. They weren't huge stars then. It's probably why the movie bombed. Nobody really knew who that guy was either. He was an unknown. I still don't know his name and don't remember seeing him in another movie after that.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Frances mcdormand, Billy krudup, Jason Lee(I love my name is earl), Anna paquin, rainn Wilson, nick swardson, Zooey deschanel, Mitch Hedberg even had a small role at the poker game. Too many good actors and such a great story and good soundtrack. And Patrick fugit who played William was in Saved and Gone girl off the top of my head. It wasn’t the star power that held it back, it was the lack of advertising. The only ad I ever remember was the previews on a dvd.
@@mikebyars9463 Yeah, it was a good movie. I thought it was probably the lack of star power at the time. I don't think any of those people were well known then. Some had been in small movies in maybe one or two roles you knew them from. It wasn't until a few years after that movie that they got popular. That guy that's the other lead who is the kid reporter was never in anything I remember before that movie. Kate Hudson had done a couple movies that weren't that great. Had only been around a couple years then. And I had no clue who Phillip Seymore Hoffman was then. You saw him in things but wasn't an A list actor yet. Wasn't the lead guy in anything really. When he was it was a lower budget movie.
Lotta good films on this list! The Zemeckis Christmas Carol remains my favorite adaptation of that story, and I watch it every year in the appropriate season. What stands out is how faithful the film is to the original, which seems to have been one of the primary reasons the film was made in the first place. The motion capture is much improved from Zemeckis's Polar Express, and honestly I don't have any uncanny valley issues with it. It also contains some of my favorite Christmas Carol adaptation moments, from utter horror of the charity men when they hear the "surplus population" line, the heartbreaking look on the face of Oldman's Bob Cratchet after the (future) death of Tiny Tim, and the heartwarming moment when Scrooge says he has "come to dinner...if you'll have me". Ace marks for the music, ace marks for the representation of Dickensian London, and ace marks for Carrey's many characters, most especially his Ghost Of Christmas Present (who really adeptly bounces between merriment and harsh teaching tones and looks).
I watched so many of these in theaters and was usually the only one of my friends who left saying “I liked it” and such. Walk Hard, Punch Drunk Love, and so on.
Not a Movie But Greg The Bunny The Fox Network puppet show aired for 1 season but the title character became mildy popular Icon appearing on MADtv and Cartoon Network's Duel Masters and I think the show got a revival on IFC In 2006 or something but It's been over a decade so I don't remember
I don't remember seeing The Last Temptation of Christ listed at the marquis in Donnie Darko.... But the weird thing is that it always HAS ABSOLUTELY made me think of that film. The two are very similar in scope; realizing who you are and sacrificing self for love.
I remember my dad took me and my sister to see life aquatic in theatres, I had to have been 8 or 9, and I had no clue wtf I was watching . Today it’s one of my all time favorite movies, ever.
Some pretty good ones. Emperor's New Groove :) Haven't seen it but it looks like such a sweet movie :) Laughter and enjoyment guarantee. Osmosis Jones,Road to El Dorado,Ali,Donnie Darko,Punch-Drunk Love,Walk Hard,Speed Racer.Seem like nice recommendations. Good video
I really like it, too. Did you ever catch the "Roadies" series? I was really enjoying that series when it was airing as it reminded me of Almost Famous. Bothered me that it was cancelled so quickly.
I really like it, too. Did you ever catch the "Roadies" series? I was really enjoying that series when it was airing as it reminded me of Almost Famous - until they just suddenly cancelled it.
So legitimately the reason that emperor's new group didn't do well is cuz it was originally supposed to be two or three other films that all got smashed together last minute because of a voice acting opportunity that they didn't want to let escape😅
I saw children of men in theaters and it blew me away. Its cinematography was amazing. Some superb camera shots. Would love to experience it on the big screen again.
Thanks for including the underrated Disney masterpiece that is Treasure Planet. But Osmosis Jones should've been left out of this list because it's an awful movie. So it deserved to flop hard.
Almost Famous is excellent, Emperors New Groove a classic. Walk Hard is too smart for its own good, has parodied many biopics and the format even since that just cash in on musical icons. Speed Racer & Life Aquatic definitely underrated
Emperor's New Groove was by far the best animated movie that year, and Life Aquatic (in my opinion) is still Anderson's 2nd best movie (1st being Grand Budapest) A lot of the others on the list were pretty good as well (Darko and Punch Drunk love, and Children of men especially)
That was apparently part of the issue with marketing it, it had bad press from an inflated budget, particularly considering the lack of "big name" actors.
Emperor's New Groove is hand down my favorite Disney movie, till this day. And Emperor's New School is still my favorite Disney TV Show as well. TOO THIS DAY. TOO THIS DAY. Side note I am shocked to know Osmosis Jones was a bomb. Both that movie and its tv show are in the same boat as Emperor's New Groove to me.
Idiocracy is one of my favorite comedies it literally predicted the future of America. Almost famous, Donnie darko and mullholand drive are in my top 10. Osmosis jones is amazing bill Murray is so good, treasure planet was great I have no idea why it gets so much hate. The version of Peter Pan with Jeremy sumpter is the best version. Anything by Wes Anderson is a fave, The Happening is supposed to be campy and silly no one understands it, it’s actually perfectly done much better than lady in the water. Children of men was great too. The Jim Carey Christmas carol isn’t my favorite (the muppets) but it’s definitely worth watching every Christmas. Critics and most viewers ALWAYS get it wrong. Think for yourself and you’ll find a ton of movies that are incredible that everyone else dislikes
I watched a bunch of these one summer in the 2000s (goodness im old). Here's my 2 cents. Almost famous is fantastic. Definitely worth watching. The emperor's new groove is hilarious. Will make your think of your best bud. Watch. The road to El Eldorado is pretty good. It gets stupid towards the end. But its pretty good. Watch. Donnie darko is freaking terrifying. Watch it if youre looking for a reason to go to therapy. Watch or skip. Death to Smoochy is pretty terrible if youre looking for a comedy. Its also not so good as a drama either. Its more of just a bizarre form of drama with children's characters. The one entertaining thing though is Robin was on the front cover of the video (with the main character inside a suit covering his face) but the movie really isnt about robin. Its just....bizzare. Skip Treasure planet is fun. Especially if you dont know treasure island story. But otherwise may be a drag. (Though I enjoyed quite a few scenes despite watching a treasure island movie right before watching treasure planet as well as already having read the book. Sondespite knowing the entire plot, it was still entertaining) Still, its music scenes could make your cry and the relationship between Jim and John will make you want to hug dad. The art isnt just stunning. Its emotionally moving. The movie also marks the last hand drawn (partially) disney movie for those of you looking for art history. Worth watching. Walk hard is a funny drama (a "dramedy") that very much doesnt take itself seriously. Watch.
“I’m cut in half pretty bad, Dewey!” “We gonna light us a candle tonight.” “Oh, so I’m a cheater, but you can just go and drink up all the milk!” “You’re mother was wrong!” “You know whose got hands! The Devil! And he uses them for holding!” “It’s medication for erectile dysfunction! It gives you a boner!” “The wrong kid died!” Walk Hard, The Dewey Cox Story I could go on for days, but then I’d just be typing out the screenplay.
"A Christmas Carol" is way too actiony to try to justify the 3-D. Moments that should work as drama are instead turned into chase scenes. My family watched it for the first time this year and it was simply a headache and way too over the top. And once again: the uncanny valley still hurts it like every time Zemeckis tries this, even if it's far better than the near-unwatchable Polar Express.
I thought Almost famous did well. Its was loved by everyone i know who watched it, and it was critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated. And i wanted to like Ali more but it was so slow and bleak
