Today I struggle as a completely beginner in sewing as I attempt to make a cute Mushroom Dress!

Here is a list of some of the supplies I used

"Following patterns and complaining about it" pretty well sums up sewing. That and making a small mistake that requires the entire seam to be ripped out. And cutting fabric. And ironing it. And cutting more fabric. And ironing it.
Living out cottage core fantasy’s is so true for so many people. There’s a shocking overlap of cottage core and Minecraft
i've been sewing for 7 years and this is an amazing large project but PLEASE press your seams it makes everything so much easier i promise you. i just made my junior prom dress and it was a life-saver
Cutting patterns out on the floor like a true floor goblin. Rachel Maksy would be proud.
1:51 At this point, I was convinced that the item on the bookshelf behind her was, in fact, the glorious Lego Bonsai tree.
This was also pretty much confirmed by her next sentence lol
Your observation is correct!
I have sewed for years, still have no idea what I'm doing!:D You did fantastic, both you and the pieces look beautiful!! I do love the 'Sewing project has a lot of sewing???!??!?!?!?!?' attitude, it's a mood 😂
The Queen has returned :D
Bruh stop being so kind before it goes to my head 😊
As someone who's been sewing for quite a few years and still manages to struggle, the number 1 tip I have is to care for the seam finishes, especially if you want your makes to last. Not to make them pretty, but to reduce fraying and stress. (also ironing, but I hate it, too)
Anyways, great work, my first project looked nowhere as good as yours turned out!
She has ascended to the mushroom Queen!!!
Watching Jess struggle with a pattern and a sewing machine while I hand sew a skirt made out of straight rectangles feels like I'm winning here lol.
I’ve been sewing for 40 years and not a project goes by that I don’t have to rip a seam and start again. Great job. Your dress is wonderful!
That mushroom hat and staff video is how I found your channel, so getting a part 2 is amazing. What a wonderful outfit you've made! Now all you need is to make a little friend to compliment the ensemble. I suggest a stick bug looking brown mushroom of a lil' guy.
LET'S GO!
I have an unhealthy addiction to cottage core things and mushrooms, so thank you Jess for feeding me! That is seriously a really adorable dress. You sure this is your first time making a dress? 😂
I always think: wow people forget alot from school, until i remember that learning to sew isn't normal and there's not many more contries than mine that have a school subject based on sewing and fabricy-stuff in base school which is 9 years
i recogmend drawing ur shape onto the fabric with tailor's chalk so its easier
I have a degree in fashion design and have been sewing for about 20 years, and I still struggle with things. You did great! The hardest thing is to overcome your desire to quit when the project just wants to fight you.
I… that’s actually rlly validating. As someone trying to get into sewing, thank you!
woah the algorithm completely made me forget about you for 6 months but thankfully this showed up in my feed. It made me realise how far I've come and how far you've come in the cosplay game. my god that skirt is CLEAAN !!! (just dont flip the seams LOL) and that zipper install??!! I think I started cosplaying because I watched your techno vid and proceeded to make that along with your mushroom fairy. i loved the staff so i made that my mission to replicate it, and thus started me on my sewing journey. you singlehandedly picked me up and threw me into the deep end of whimsy, textiles and cosplay. here i am almost 2 years after watching you for the first time with a deep love for cosplay and a feed that consists of sewing ranting, the whimsy and fandom edits. also rachel maksy jumpscare i see we have another thing in common🤨
Awww thank you this is all incredibly sweet. So glad to help introduce you to the world of cosplay. I hope you have fun working on all your projects!

I think you did an amazing job!! I’ve been sewing for over 40 years and I still struggle at times. Unless you’re a professional seamstress, and sew every day, you’re never going to be “perfect!” What is that anyway, lol. Great video!!❤❤
I do not particularly struggle with sowing but I do enjoy watching you do things I never would have time for but without pretending the way to the final product was perfect with absolutely no struggles or mistakes
I like to see sewing content in general, you being the one to make it is twice as great!
As a kid my mom tried teaching me how to sew and i remember it never clicked with me. 15 years later I'm now an adult trying to sew a lining to my crochet top and wind up in tears of frustration. So yeah you are definitely not alone in the frustrating world of sewing as a beginner
I’ve been sewing for years and 90% of the time I go in with little to no plans and figure it out as I go
Yeah I'll bite - I've been super into sewing for twelve years now and I can say with absolute certainty that you did not cry enough lol
Okay I’ll keep that in mind for the next project
As someone who hasn't sewn in a long time it really makes me want to start again !! And the final look looks so ⭐️ whimsical ⭐️ Thank you so much for sharing the process with us :D
those extra sheets will be useful for future mockups/linings! More fabric is always a good thing imo
the jorts and tubbo hoodie is a great look lol great job with this whole project!!
I’ve done sewing fora long time. Not super consistently and I’m not super particular on perfection. Anywhooooo, great job! I’ve not had much issues with patterns but glad you got it all figured out. Turned out great! Whimsical even!
watching you go through learning sewing gave me so many flashbacks to starting out (and also the project i was working on last week lol)
remembering which is the right side of the fabric is v hard with the fabric you were using in all fairness, and i felt the bobbin running out in my soul
i absolutely love the final product, and you powered through a tough project immaculately! love love love watching your stuff
Tip for anyone first time learning how to sew or making any Costumes (Like Me!) Simplicity! Very easy cutout pieces, and instructions with diagrams and website links if you need help! Plus, you can literally, swap pieces from any pattern in or out to make any Costumes!
Jess! Contact me if you ever need any help with anything! Especially, with Simplicity!
I love how real you are about the learning process and hurdles you face. I am re-learning to sew (brushing off the rust to get back into cosplay) and you did really well! Twirl in the skirt for the win!
I have made a total of one successful sewing project, the struglle is absolutely justified. Who knew that making fabric into clothes could be so hard?
Hay flailing around and figuring things out is the best part of this hobby. Most of the time I don't know what I'm doing too, but to other people I'm good at sewing 0.0
Honestly I was surprised you managed to make a fitting outfit with what you had on yourself
My toxic trait is thinking I can do this with no prior experience
Honestly Rachels sewing journey is really similar to yours! You gotta start somewhere!❤
love that you've delved into the joy of unfolding a sewing pattern
now all you have to do is decorate your shoes and the outfit will be fully complete :)
You know it's a good day when she has returned
She’s the perfect mushroom mage!
not going to lie your videos taught me how to book bind and now seeing you step into something of my interest i got excited and watched this video when i got the chance
Making it to wearable clothing is a win! Sewing is hard, in my opinion, and getting anything done is impressive (-shoves the quilt they've been working on since 2017 back into the closet-) Well done! The dress looks very cute
I am the child of a quilter and quilts are Not Forgiving, so I gasped very loudly at "I probably should've been ironing this whole time" 😂 No experience making clothes, so I only have the knowledge of "The quilt will never let you forget you cut without ironing", which may be absolutely useless in this context 😅
I've taken multiple sewing classes and have made projects outside of school and not even I iron as much as I probably should during the process.
I LOVE your new hair colour!!!🧡🧡🧡 It reminds me of Paige from Charmed(she's my favourite)
10:54 hearing slip stitch activated my crochet brain so i would just get even more confused
Omg I love the dress! And to be that person with the orange hair it and the mushroom dress it looks a little like empires season 1 Shelby
Very cool 😀
It’s really cool that you kept going. The dress looks really nice and you made it yourself! You can be proud of yourself. 😊
They don’t post anymore but I cannot recommend checking out Annika Victoria enough ! They made videos for years showing how to sew so many things and it’s all formatted really beginner friendly
I’ll have to check them out!
YOU DRESSIFICATED!!!! I’m sorry, you can’t play Swagger Stagger without me making a Tango-ism😂
I found you from your cosplay contest video and really enjoy your approach at making! You always have to start somewhere ♥️ I started a little over a year ago and was able to best overall novice at momocon ( I was the jester in your contest video ) so really anything is possible!! So happy sewing!! You did an amazing job!!
Finally, somone on the same level of sewing as me!
Welcome to the Orange Hair gang.
God’s bravest soldier for doing a zip on your first project
I started basic sewing in school when I was 12, did a bit more at home at 14 to around 17/18 then just kind of stopped(I'm 20 now) and did more other kinds of crafts like with hot glue and stuff, but I still can sew when needed, I do more cross stitch than clothes, which I suck at, but if I was asked to make a plush or something like that I can, I make my nan felt houses that look pretty good.
But yeah all this to say, sewing is really hard and don't feel bad if you struggle, my sewing machine randomly broke one day when I was actually in the mode to do some sewing so I do most things by hand now. 😅
I am so proud of you!!!! I've been wanting to learn how to sew for so long, but im so scared I won't be able to do it, you diving in and actually doing the thing!!!!! Omg you give me hope!!!! This came out adorable!!!!! ❤
It looks SO pretty!!
Dang that dress is so gorgeous! You sure you haven’t sewed before? It looks beautiful!
This turned out really cute
EEE SO PRETTY!!!
It’s beatiful! and also a fantastic place to start :)
AAAHHH BEAUTIFUL
I've been sewing for quite a few years now, but unfortunately I don't think I could give any tips that would help you since I really only make plushies and do so by hand ^^'
I will say though, for a first-timer, you did pretty damn great!

I like your videos because it makes me feel like maybe i can make cool stuff too!
My bestie is a seamstress and they are amazing at what they can do. I think I could sew a button on a shirt.... maybe XD
So I understand facing a new task. What I enjoy is watching you grow and being a Girl Boss ❤
Always looking forward to your next video ❤
Its awesome!!
YOOOO LOVE THE NEW HAIR JESS ✨✨
Edit: Aaaa it turned out so well!! I love seeing you tackle all these crafts, your videos are always so fun and inspiring :D
I'm so excited for this video! The dress is so cute and I relate to trying to understand Simplicity patterns and staring at it for 20 minutes trying to decipher its meaning like it's a foreign language. Side question: where did you get your mushroom mug and lid? It's so cute!
I’m still trying to decide the design of my own mushroom dress to go with my mushroom crown, I have so many things saved on Pinterest and Etsy
I swear my cats also bug me all the time when I sew it's like in there DNA
What I my human doing on floor I must investigate, destroy, then nap. 😂😼💤
I AN BEING A MUsHROOM WITCH FOR HALLOWEEN AND THAT STAFF IS MY DREAM
the quote i will now use for the rest of my life " this learning curves got hands!!!"
Hi jess! I love your cottage-core needs. i am the same. I also have to make a dress accept i know how just scared. Anyways I'll be using you for fae Inspiration
OMG your cat’s name’s Mumbo and I can see why! Also she’s a girl! You’re my kind of people. The dress is nice, too lol

Ima be calling you “Little Mushroom” if you don’t mind ❤️
Hermitcraft AND Rachel Maksy fan????? You are so cool
Hey Jess!im planning to make a book and i got two ideas on how to make help me decide.
1.buy a sketchbook and write in that.
2.As an 11 year old make myself my own book WHIT HAVING NO SEWING KNOWLAGE AT ALL
What do you think and what option is better or give me your own options.
Thank you love yiur videos!
I have the same cricket machine as you.
I want it. Gimme! 🤲
Btw can you add a link to the patterns? I wanna make it.
I'm sewing something as I'm watching this video and I have that exact same little tomato right in front of me lol
Was anyone going to tell me that Joann's was going bankrupt or was I going to find that out in a mushroom dress RUclips video?
So sorry I had to be the bearer of bad news. For now the stores aren't closing so were good for now.

You're okay
SHROOOM
*Hears the cries over trying to understand patterns*
Ah, a new one has joined our ranks.
*Sees the end dress in pride*
Know young one, the ritual shant be completed until you have bled for your knowledge and a tool has shattered.
(Be careful when you take up the courage to hand sew, thimbles are for more than thumbs. And machine needles hate lots of layers)
My friends: Look but don't make it obvious.
Me: 13:07
7:21 Mmmmmm diffferent project you say

kinoko girl from mha!
I've been sewing my own clothes since I was old enough to use my mom's machine and honestly you did really well! I still struggle to read commercial patterns and I'm lucky to have a costumer mom to help me, so I think your finished product is beautiful! invisible zippers can be done with a regular zipper foot, and the easiest method is to baste (use a long stitch length on your machine) the area that needs the zipper closed and then sew the zipper in while the fabric is sewn together. it's a bit hard to explain in a comment but I think Sarah Spaceman just uploaded a video where she talks about how to do it the proper way. anyways keep creating! the best way to improve is to make lots and lots of cool things and experiment with each one! (holy wow I have never left a comment this long before the 'tism is 'tisming)
I was halfway through the part about the invisible zipper when I thought, “Oh, hey, Sarah Spaceman just talked about that with her Teto SynthV skirt!”
And then you mentioned it too 😅
Great minds think alike…or, watch the same YT vids, I guess…
@@DragonSong5 Sarah fan spotted. I guess we all have the same feed lmao
We're all going through a quarter life crisis and wanting to be more like Rachel Maksey, we luv her (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ ⊂((・▽・))⊃ ⊂(•‿•⊂ )*.✧
(As a natural ginger, your hair is just as natural as my hair, trust me)

Congrats on first
Ah yes, sewing, where 10% is actual sewing and 90% is washing, cutting, ironing, marking, etc 😅 (still enioy it tho 🤭)
😎…….. 😂
