    Nice job! I love that you are jumping in and trying something that you don't know a ton about. As a, um, much older person :) who has made her own clothes since I was a teen, I love watching you figure things out. We learn by doing. I wanted to jump into the screen and show you little tricks...then I remembered I learned them by trial and error--and you will too.

    Pre-loved duvet covers are a brilliant way to source large amounts of fabric at a good price, and that one you found was really pretty! You did a great job of that dress, the sleeves are epic! Well done 👏

    Put safety pins on your list. You will be doing a lot of elastic and turning belts, ties, etc inside out. They also make a turning tool much like your bottle washer made specifically for inserting elastic. You’re doing great!

    Learning to sew can only be done by gaining experience by sewing. We very quickly learn what works and doesn’t work, the quirks of following patterns, and lots of problem solving. When you revisit your patterns with different fabrics, and different hacks, you will find them so much easier, and your skill increases. Dress patterns can become tops, tops can become dresses, you can do sleeve variations, skirt variations… Mark the changes you made on your dress, onto your pattern pieces for next time - saves time and fabric.

    Hi, I suggest buying a seam gauge to attach to your sewing machine bed to help you be more accurate with your seams. Also place the sewing machine closer to you and parallel to the table edge so you are not so far away feom it and can be loser to your sewingb, it will be easier to pay attention to your seaming.

  • @mala3isity

    Such a pretty dress! Your learning is paying off. I liked your straw cleaner hack. If you double pin the end of the elastic at the beginning, you won't lose it in the middle.
    The fix for the two bust pieces was creative. I'm not sure how you lost the gathers there. Another way would be just sew in a short line of basting to regather, either by hand or with the machine and then sew the joining point of the chest pieces again along the seam. You were still only working with the two layers so it wouldn't show as a repair.

    Instead of taking it in you could have added an elastic at the waist along the seam, this would gather it where you want while keeping the gathered skirt effect. Also, for adding an elastic to the sleeve first join the 2 ends of the elastic, then sew it to the edge of the of the sleeve. After that, roll the sleeve edge to encase the elastic in there, you would need to pull on it as you sew so that it's straight with the fabric. Idk if that makes sense but there are youtube tutorials on this and its FAR easier than pulling and elastic through with bobby pins etc, especially if the elastic is long.

    Cute dress! I also sew from thrifted sheets, tablecloths, shower curtains, tapestries and sometimes I thrift actual fabric. I recently found a huge bolt of dusty rose lace YEHAW! I'm currently working on a doily dress with light lavender fabric backing. I've been collecting doily bits and stashed them in several places. I'm sure I have enough for a dress (or 2) and some separates. Loved the video and subscribed.

    Hallo :)
    Fist of all I love your Video.
    But I have to know what is the meaning of your Tattoos?
    You seem super lovely but one of them looks like an 88 which does have a not at all nice meaning

    • @heyhimads
      @heyhimads  8 месяцев назад

      Hello!
      Thank you! and yes, I have a bunch of tattoos! The 88 is in honour of one of my close friends who was born in 1988. I also have a wine glass on that same wrist for another friend 💖

    • @heyhimads
      @heyhimads  8 месяцев назад +3

      @user-cc8zk5no5d Hey, me again. I just wanted to say thank you for brining this up to me.
      I was ignorant to the meaning of the 88, I should have at least done a basic google search before getting the tattoo. I want to let you know that within the hour of me seeing your comment, and me now writing this to you I have been to a tattoo shop to add another 8 to make the tattoo 888 angel numbers, my friend (who the tattoo honours) is a Capricorn, and 888 is also said to be ruled by Saturn. So I am able to honour her still, and not contribute to terrible racist dogwhistles.
      Thank you again for saying something.
