Yeah, Mario Galaxy is a special game. I felt like crying too. The music in Mario Galaxy has made me feel different than usual when listening to video game OSTs. in fact Super Galaxy actually got me into Video Game OSTs as a whole. So, thank you Super Mario Galaxy. You will always have a place in my heart.
I nearly cried when that trailer of BotW came out last E3 solely because of the music, it felt like it had the traditional live instruments like Skyward Sword and Galaxy's pieces, but it had less so it was going for a less _epic_ feel, however it goes into a Ghibli-like symphony half-way through the trailer. And I loved it all.
+TheMetaMiner Lol yep. That was my first game on the Wii, and literally couldn't have chosen a better game than this. I can't believe in about a little less than 2 years, it will be 10 years old. Is it wrong that I'm only 20 and I feel a little old just by saying that? Time kind of flies by.
Halefall with a game like Galaxy, you need to experience the music firsthand. while this arrangement was phenomenal, imagine how it would have been if they played the game before
Just played through Super Mario Galaxy again in the 3D All Stars collection. After so many years of not playing the game, I found that I could still sing along with the songs of most galaxies note-for-note. What a testament to the beauty of this soundtrack and this game!
As a horn player, it would be a dream to play in a Super Mario Galaxy orchestra one day. As my favorite game of all time it holds a special place in my heart.

They picked Galaxy's best themes. And that is no easy task. In these age of video games, the music has become generic, movie-like and bland. This is among the few games that have a variated and original-sounding soundtrack. Galaxy games are just masterpieces from gameplay to graphics to music and so on.
aozf05 I think all Mario players agree. It was not very challenging for us veteran players. But I gave it a pass since the game was so fun to play. I have learned that a fun experience is just as good as a challenging one. For example, I have both Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The former offers a challenging experience while the latter offers a fun experience. And I love them both. Galaxy games don't offer much challenge to us seasoned players, but the game is tons of fun.
What barrel are you living in? Game music become generic? Total & utter BULLSHIT. We are living in the golden age of videogame music. There's so much different kinds of stuff from relatively simple yet incredibly varied & experimental indie stuff to all kinds of AAA VG soundtracks ranging from bombastic epic orchestral stuff to more experimental music. In addition to a lot of Nintendo OSTs (SMG 1 & 2, Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus & the like), there's a fuckton of incredible varied game music from games like Journey, Kiseki series, Shatter, Super Meat Boy, The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep & Dream Drop Distance, Ar Tonelico 3, Rayman Origins & Legends, Ys series, Assassin's Creed, Last of Us, Guacamelee, Starbound, Hotline Miami, The Witcher 2, Remember Me, Tearaway, Ni No Kuni, to name but a few of the best in recent years. I mean, really, to make such silly claims you must either be very willfully ignorant or have your head so far up your own ass that you can't know any better. You insult all VG composers around the world with such ignorant drivel.
Petteri Kaakinen Golden age of video game music? Really? You must be deaf or a gullible idiot. Today's video game soundtracks pale in comparison to the old days. Those soundtracks might be great, but don't get fooled by the great compositions out there when they are not that original. They just take the easy way out and make it sound like a movie.
