Hell yes1 Loved that cheesy 80's song so much in this game! Dreamcast is really gaining more and more momentum each year bringing in more new and old fans alike! We will keep this damn system alive well past our lifetimes. I would imagine those systems will continue to last years into the future.
It was just a matter of time when it happens and i confident that there will be huge optical optimizations will happen in the future. Hope after that Project GTA 1 will come to the Saturn. A bugfixed GTA 2 on Dreamcast would also be nice. Great job so far Frogbull dont give up please.
GTA 2 on DC is very modable. Lots can be done with it too like all new vehicles and cities. Porting over GTA 1/London 69 city and vehicles and basically recreating the first game by modding the second would be doable and has been discussed before. Just a person with the know-how, drive and determination needs to do it.
Since this is based on the PC reverse-engineered code, remember there is a control scheme for PC which moves the camera along with the player, rather than strafing left/strafing right, it's a simple toggle. Of course the menu options are really not readable yet, but that'll be fixed. In the meantime, from boot, I count down 1, 3x enter to toggle the control scheme.
Thanks! Fonts are visibles now and colors fixed but settings can't be save so we'll need to hack directly to make the switch in the code to avoid to strafe but it's not a big deal 😉
I basically know nothing about Dreamcast tech-wise deep down, despite being my favourite console of that gen, but I'll go down with the questions already. Does your build still need a 32MB mod on the console? And if it does, do you think it will eventually be optimized so much to the point where it won't be needed anymore? Nonetheless, the results look very promising and this is indeed a huge goal in the homebrew community, especially after 20+ years with the question about GTA 3 and the Dreamcast
@@Frogbull55 If Shenmue 2 ran on 16 MB of RAM and 200 MHz CPU, GTA 3 and Vice City also can with optimizations. Maybe with a similar look to PSP'S GTA games
@@retroboy-fh1ji Porting over the PSP assets is a great idea since those were further optimized. Since he used the lower quality PS2 Kuruma, grabbing the vehicle models from the PS2 port of that game might be a good idea. Unless it is similar effort porting from PSP directly?
@@ShadowMan64572 Who is everybody? The PS2 ports used the higher quality assets, but on PSP they were dumbbed down compared to even GTA 3 PS2. So using those actual LCS assets from PSP would be better than using the LCS assets from PS2 port. As I believed it used the GTA 3 PS2 assets. Xbox and PC had better assets than PS2 GTA3 however with fully rendered engine bays on cars as opposed to 2d engine bays on PS2 and PSP games.
Good question. I think that ODE users will be fine as we can use up to 4gb image files no problem, but people still burning discs will have to either do super compressed audio, or split the thing up on multiple discs. But music streaming from disc will not impact game performance as it is possible to take no impact to memory by streaming audio directly. Don;t forget 99min CDR's exist and those can hold a lot more data than typical CDR's. Japan still produces them and they work fine in DC. There were many special 99min ISO's made for DC just for t hat. The Shenmue 2 Xbox audio mod was one that had a 99min version and it was way better quality than the standard CDR .CDI image.
The first version of GTA 3 I experienced was also the PC version 😁 My poor Pentium III 450 MHz struggled a lot, but it didn't matter as long as we enjoyed the thrill! 🤣
Seeing as it is literally based on the PC port, I don't see why they would not make it functional with the DC mouse and keyboards. Not a lot of extra work for them to make it work with those preexisting peripherals.
It obviosuly that would run... The game was first meant to be a Dreamcast Game... The deal that's probably will need to reduce drawn distance and some textures quality, would be wiser to make the cars textures clean like the Beta version, to be honest this port is a opportunity to make it look like The Alpha/Beta version of the game, it would also help in the performance ... The fun part of this port is that if this get finished maybe Vice City that is even more optimezed will probably run also... San Andreas even on the original Hardware (PS2) has a weak drawm distance maybe it could be possible too with less GFX
Maybe, but the fact the DVD player is the only "console" that doesn't get new stuff (unlike PlayStation, Saturn, N64, GameCube, Dreamcast, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PS3, I fail to see why it's a bad thing.
