There is an official version of GTA 3 for PC that was released on CD instead of DVD. But if I'm not mistaken it comes on 2 CDs (but the Dreamcast GD-R is 1.2 GB, I don't think 2 CDs would be necessary but even if it were other games like Shenmue they did this without a problem)
Yes, it has 2CDs, one is an installation disc, while second one is another part of installation, plus CD check (you had to have the disc inside, otherwise the game wouldnt run). The ripped version I own was around 300MB installed. It had a cracked exe file, so it ran without CD. Surely it wasnt official, but still it worked, and I completed the game like that.
Well, music files are indeed the biggest files on the disc. If you take even the audio files, the game ripped can get to even 100mb or less, having only ambient sounds, but still working. I even had at some point the whole game in a zipped file of 30mb, i believe.
@@KISSbestfan Yep, disc 2 was just all mp3 and wav files for all the cutscenes and radio, for both disc check AND storage savings, since it installs all other content from disc 1.
Yeah, both 3 and VC should be perfectly possible to port to the DC as long as the music is properly compressed (VC is more challenging, but not impossible). The only game that is impossible to realistically port to the DC is San Andreas, less because of specs and more because even by removing everything that is not absolutely necessary it simply won't fit on a singular GD-ROM (by that point they really realized they were on a DVD, so might as well make use of it), so it would have to be split and be made multidisc. And by that point, I think it just leaves the realm of possibility and becomes a pipe dream for a lunatic programmer.
