This is how I personally come up with a character:

I messed up, on Face, it was only supposed to be eye color and skin tone.

Lol it's funny, my process is completly backwards:
First i do the personality and rol in the story, then the appereance and clothes, after that, the age and last the name xD
I make the character first then appearance all that stuff then give them a name age and other
my characters just spawn from whatever crazy idea my brain comes up with

How mine are made: well I'll start out with a base idea then they just basically design themselves, really. Like, I know I want their hair to look like this, or their skin tone to be this, and then they really design themselves. I also use my OCs for writing. So personality is used a lot.

for me its just my brain going haywire, i do backstory after the appearance, but i think of a general idea for the characters first (usually)
well with some of my characters I do that
I just think of what kind of personality and tastes my character has and imagine how they'd most likely walk out the door. It really fun

One of my current fave songs is redemption... I am so glad that's not the only song I listen to while I'm drawing, or all of my characters would be like....

I am an expert at coming up with random characters on the spot, I usually just think of something random and create a character out of it and Bam new oc
Whenever I try to draw an OC I always end up drawing a constipated frog trying to vomit out all of its organs.

My English teacher :making us read a book about man named gregor who turns into cockroach

Also me: had fun drawing cockroach man and proceeds to draw whole line of bug people
Omg, some weeks ago I had to read this book too. I'm not native English speaker btw. Metamorphosis is such a good one, even tho the teacher didn't tell us the meaning directly, I understood it. I relate to Kafka in some ways and this book made me shed a tear ngl.
She is very beautifully drawn nice work. She kinda reminds me of Tsumugi from Danganronpa

I base most of my characters off of other things such as objects and zodiac signs. I take the traits of the thing and then with a bit of thinking I create an entire life for them. Its kinda weird but simple for me.
Your art style is so whimsical and dynamic at the same time 💞 I stan.
The way I make my characters is looking at specific features from other characters, taking what I like about said characters and combining it all into one thing
Or just basing it off of some sort of theme like space or a timeline or something-
Here's how i make my characters:
-draw a base
-go completely crazy and draw whatever the heck I want and it ends up turning out halfway decent
How I make my characters (I'll use the character in my pfp as an example):
I try to base my characters off of aspects of myself (think fears, anxieties, strongest emotions, etc.) Zenith represents the (fleeting) confidence that I have.
I tend to design the clothes of my characters first and go from there. When thinking of confidence, my first thought was performers, so that's why Zenith wears clothing similar to those of ringleaders.
Then, I thought of traits that could go hand-in-hand with confidence and I instantly thought of strength. Since I have a bit of an obsession with insects, I thought of ants, since they can lift 10-50 times their own body weight depending on the species.
After that, it was just trial and error to find a design I liked. Not all of my characters are designed like this. Sometimes, I already know what they look like in my head and it's just a matter of drawing it how I envision, other times I'll have a dream about them and have to scramble to get it on paper before I forget the details. Sometimes, I just draw and I'll have a character by the end of it. Dungeons and Dragons is also a way I've made characters that I enjoy, so how you design them really depends on what you feel most comfortable with. Just have fun with it!
I usually create characters around two pillars: their personality and purpose on the story (if they are an ally, an enemy, or even important part of the plot they take base in), and then start creating their designs based around it (it works pretty well, I must say! But that's just my personal way of doing it)

My alien OC is having flashbacks of the war, becoming an orphan, meeting the love of his life... Having a happy life ... Then the love of his life gets kidnapped and mind controlled and almost dies in his arms .... Oh god what did I do to my poor boy
That my friend is my coping mechanism. Let the pain of life play out on someone not real, in my own fantasy world, where it can't hurt me or others. Sometimes it just bleeds over onto paper too and that's fine...
EVERYONE LISTEN UP! if you do a only pencil drawing it's really fun, and it leaves room for a lot more creative things, try it

I just start drawing and hope it looks good
How mine are made: they are walking representations of something. So, my druid is a worshipper of Dionysus, for example. I'll have her have laurels in her hair and two curls atop her head to look like little horns. She'll be constantly drinking, and her color scheme is mainly earth tones excluding her fire hair, to show shear mainly calm but with a fire in her.
Or my favorite one I designed, Helend. She's literally Hel, goddess of the dead, but she's horribly bullied and lonely. She has no self esteem, hides, and feels like a curse. So, I made half her body deformed to reflect the goddess, she is too easy to make friends with, she hides her face under a rabbit mask, and her normal looking hand kills whatever it touches at random.
I make them mean something for me, it just makes them have more personality since we all showcase ourselves through our hairstyles and outfits :)
I literally just scribble on a piece of paper until I draw a shape that gives me inspiration for a character
I love the semi realism styles they're always so beautiful
I'd love to draw my own characters but am struggling a lot with finding my own style :')

honestly, I don't think it's good to fixate on the thought that you need a "totally original and consinstent style". Just draw how you like and how you think it's good, and even if you think it's not good, that means you can improve (which can be stressful, but yeah, art is hard). A good way to improve is always try new things, so even if your style is inconsistent now, you will eventually find the one that you like by doing something different with your drawings and of course, by practicing
Everytime I draw my hand just says "draw ddlc draw ddlc now cmon." And my heads like "listen to him, not me."
Lips and eyes and hair are like the best things to draw ngl

My process is way less defined, I just start drawing and hope it turns out alright, to which I then name the thing I've created by putting in random letters and hoping it sounds right

I have so many ocs.... and my problem is that whenever I make a new one- I have to come up with a back story and start loving the character and then all that so like uh- YAAAAA
EDIT: After I draw all my ocs for the last time I’m ditching them ✌️✨ they cringe now
My process is one of two ways:
1.
•general idea of their personality
•general idea of what I want them to look like
•sketch out character
•maybe change a few things
•give them a detailed backstory
•relations to existing characters
•color pallette(if colored)
Or
2.
•literally just draw someone random and go "hey, this character is cute"

Inspiration strikes some folks in strange ways. And I always enjoy watching the process of how someone makes a character. My best friend listens to me ramble on about ideas I have for characters. I'm pretty sure he's just got a bag or hat that he pulls random thoughts out of to make me think of more. And for me, the process never stops.
Realized I didn't have any characters with green hair a couple days ago, so that's what I've been working on.
I recommend you guys to start with the personality and backstory and end with the design^^

Wow, I make characters as kinda a hobbies in a way ngl. My inspiration comes from music and games mostly, a character always has a relation to something as nothing just comes out of the blue.

The way that I think of a character is just imagining cool scenes and scenarios this character would be in
And then what they would be
Then the design
And then the longest process, names backstory and personality
I create the character of my character first. How they speak, how they act and such. Then, I draw them fitting of their characters.
i make mine by using an archetype, picking a shape and a color palette, designing the character, then coming up with a detailed personality

Oh my god she is gorgeous! I have the hardest time with designing character... I hope that someday I could become as skilled and creative as you have managed to get when creating characters! I have around 3 characters and I really like them but I feel like all but one dont really stand out compared to others, I feel like possibly when I have them a bit more stylized they stand out but I mean I dont really know what to do with them to make them a bit more unique. They have a story and all which is pretty distinct but they just dont loom the part!

That's what i usually do too but i want to actually create characters with substance (a story, personality, vibe, etc)
I can often just come up with something, but if there’s a character I want to create with a cool backstory, a lot of accessories and an interesting appearance, I go thru my moms old sketch books or Pinterest
My mom is a self taught artist and she has a lot of cool stuff I get inspiration from
My process is either I spend hours on a single character, maybe even weeks, just to make them perfect... Or I zone out listening to music, picture an entire movie, and immediately have my main characters, my villain, my plot, and bits of dialogue.
Personally, I don't really have a 'process'.
When I create a character, I think of what personaloty it will have and so I start drawing a design I think will fit the personality.
I then go over a few detail changes and THEN I start thinking about color.

I actually- have a character with a similar palette and based it off the same process of creation a few years ago. (Given your character looks nothing like mine so I'm not claiming anything) but it's cool to see someone with a similar thought process to character creation!

How I come up with a character: literally pressing reroll character in some sandbox game and play them to get attached to them.

I once had a phase in college where I created 9 or 10 different characters based on insects. They all had gross insect face and limbs but also has human torsos, all with expose chests (the women too but I gave them bras). I have to say it was probably my favorite line of characters I've ever created.

Personally, I just wing it for the most part, but it always starts with a general idea. Ex: My pfp came about from me wanting a character based off me, with an emphasis on my creativity. Like you said in the video, I also draw depending on my mood. Sometimes I won't draw at all if I don't feel like it lol.

My process is either by listening to music and having them pop up into my head, basing them off of friends, or thinking of a bunch of fictional characters and other stuff putting it all in a metaphorical melting pot then bam, character created
