For example in some tv shows or movies you can often see two young characters (often teenagers) being completely melodramatic and act like they're in a Shakespearean novel with their romance story and one adult character on the side just being majorly annoyed or blasé by it. It's easy to poke fun at and I always laugh at these jokes but you need to have a reasonable person at one point pointing out how ridiculous everything is. That or you make the thing to interest mature adults that could get it's a satire because they know how ridiculous self-centered teenagers instead of seeing it as normal and even rooting out for the main character. Maybe that's who the book is for (I don't know didn't read it). The movie is clearly going for the relatable teenagers angle and that's why it's so unbearable because it completely normalizes her awful behavior.
I watched this movie once when I was 12 and I suffered so much second-hand embarrassment from it that 10yrs later I still can't handle watching it even through a film review.
If you watch enough movies you will know because no one makes original stuff. They all a bunch of copycats. It's like when doing an assignment in school and the teacher give you the guidelines and you follow them. This is most directors these days.

Yup, it's neither. She's a protagonists when many flaws and few redeeming features which is refreshing. She loves her cat, her little sister, and once in a blue moon she'll do something nice for her parents or one of her friends. But when she screws up she learns her lesson for about 5 seconds until things somehow work out for her and then continues to be obnoxious.
“This girl makes poor choices, I hope bad things happen to her.” is the plot of this entire film in one sentence 😂

neither tbh in the book it was written really well and was funny cuz like what 14 isn’t full of themselves and thinks they can’t do any wrong, but in the movie it translated kinda badly
Yup, it's neither. She's a protagonists when many flaws and few redeeming features which is refreshing. She loves her cat, her little sister, and once in a blue moon she'll do something nice for her parents or one of her friends. But when she screws up she learns her lesson for about 5 seconds until things somehow work out for her and then continues to be obnoxious.
