Dylan: "Wait, so she just wrote that song and they all spontaneously knew and started playing that song?" Lmao if he watched Bollywood films or any musicals really, he wouldn't question anything.
But in musicals and Bollywood films, there's an understanding from the audience that that's just how those movies are and there's no reason to critique it. You just accept that in those movies, people sing. But in a non-musical film, like this one, it makes no sense that this band would know the lyrics and the harmonies and the instrumentals of a song that they'd never played before and be able to just perfectly play it out of nowhere the first time.
@@rachelk3887 Thats what I was about to say. Musicals are a different thing because where there's music would just be talking irl, it's not like the characters are actually writing a song unlike in this movie where they're like "omg you wrote that?!" like how tf would they know anything without even sheet music haha
@@maijashea actually it's not that unrealistic to jump in on accompanying instrumentals if you're an expert musician, and Mo/Stella have been playing instruments for a long time. Lots of musicians don't even use sheet music when they're writing/recording songs, they just write the instrumental based on sounds since they know what each note sounds like and they never transcribe it to sheet music. Try asking piano players on youtube (ones who arrange their own music) for their sheet music and often times they'll say they don't have any to share because they composed their songs by ear. Accompaniments are generally pretty simple in this type of song anyways, Mo and Stella are just layering basic chords on top of a pop song in 4/4 time lol. It's all about listening for what key the first player (the piano in this case, Wen already knew the song) is playing in and then adding accompanying chords in the same key. For Charlie, it's as easy as jumping in with a simple pop drum beat in 4/4 time. And in the scene, they all join in one by one because they're listening for the time signature/key signature/what the other instruments are playing before they jump in with basic chords. The structure of the song is in basic pop format (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus), they know music so they know what structure they're expecting. So they didn't already know the song and Olivia is definitely not the one who writes the instrumentals to their songs, she only wrote the lyrics/melody--Mo and Stella just added basic chords in the same key. As for the harmonies, Olivia most likely didn't actually write any harmonies for the song either but harmonies are just chords, if you know and understand chords (which guitar players and singers know well) then it's super easy to harmonize on the spot, you just add a note on top in thirds. The chorus is pretty simple and Olivia sang it by herself the first time, so I'd imagine they just jumped in with harmonies the next time the chorus came around? Would it likely come out this perfect the first time? Definitely not, and Stella especially would probably be experimenting a bit with what chord progressions she liked best. But it's nowhere near unrealistic for a musician to be able to jump in with simple pop chords in the same key signature in a basic structure pop song. It's actually really impressive just how much musicians can do by ear just by knowing key signatures, chords, and basic song structure.

Lemonade Mouth would have been my favourite disney channel movie... If that guy hadn't joined the band in the end. That is the only thing that still really bothers me about this film, like whyyyy tho!? did he grow with them? he didn't do no work so what exactly did he do to deserve his place!? What!? Tell me! *wHaT wAs ThE rEaSoN!?*
EXACTLY LOL like he still cheated sooooo why was he there? That was the BIGGEST surprise in this movie. Because I DEADASS just KNEW the drummer and her were going to be together.
@julie martinez ... Yes... They would LOL what kind of question? THAT was considered cheating, he didn't push her off, he was ALLOWING her to touch on him. PLUS, I'm pretty sure that was his jacket she had on. They aren't going to show him fucking the bitch LOL but you act like cheating means ONE thing. It's SEVERAL things. And OBVIOUSLY if she was oksy with her man being touched by other girls, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't gave felt shocked.
@julie martinez And?... LOL he STILL made a move on another girl and I believe he helped them BEFORE he officially apologized. I'm just saying, he cheated in the most minimal way. But he still cheated LOL that doesn't change anything. Cool, he helped but that didn't solve shit. It was the fact that he apologized and probably made friends with the others. I'm just saying in a short time they added him to the band LOL. It was just a bit weird to me. Like he didn't need to be friends with the douche BUT he didn't NEED to be in the band.
I second this, but I admit as a child part of why I loved this movie so much was the versatility. Because there are Disney movies where everyone sings, but not everyone is very good at it if that makes sense lol, but in this movie all of them were talented. Each one of them brought so much vocally and the movie showcased each of them, instead of just focusing on a main character and some backup singers. It kind of gives the same energy as Victorious (which I know is not Disney) where everyone is just so incredible.
In the book they are not using typical instruments. Mo played a classical bass like in the first song but she never switched to electric bass, Stella plays the ukulele instead of a guitar, Charlie uses bongos and other drums and Wen plays the trumpet. I really would have liked to hear how that sounds. But I still love that movie.
So I was rewatching this, great commentary as always btw. And it makes sense why Mo doesn't accept Beck's confession. It's a good lesson, just because you had the bravery to confess your feelings, it doesn't mean you're entitled to reciprocation. Don't get me wrong, I think Mo's soccer guitar player boyfriend is a douche. But at the end of the day, it's Mo's decision. She clearly has feelings for the jerk, and there was an honest attempt from the douche to change. And who knows how their relationship started. Beck, on the other hand, is swooping in even when Mo and soccer douche weren't broken up. And Mo is definitely within her right to reject Beck because she never showed any intention of having a relationship with Beck. It was clearly one-sided. Also, yeah I agree Beck having a love interest right away and Soccer Douche being the new guitar player is BS.

@@candysweet434 I feel like this movie is too mature for children, definitely a movie for pre teens and teens. I was 15 when this movie came out and its definitely one of my favorites.
Dylan: "Wait, so she just wrote that song and they all spontaneously knew and started playing that song?"
Lmao if he watched Bollywood films or any musicals really, he wouldn't question anything.
omg i swear
@@reese3204 Dude, they're high schooler that play instruments. Not experts.

Lemonade Mouth would have been my favourite disney channel movie... If that guy hadn't joined the band in the end.
@julie martinez
And?...
Maybe he's going to be like Yoko was to the Beatles.
@julie martinez I'm gonna assume you haven't watched that episode in good luck Charlie where Spencer cheats on teddy.
YES LEMONADE MOUTH YOU ARE AN ANGEL DYLAN THANK YOU
"they have two lead singers?" "that girl sings too?" "red sings as well?"
yes. it's a Disney movie. they all sing.

I'VE BEEN WANTING THIS FOR SO LONG. THANK YOU, DYLAN.
The character's name is actually Charlie.
The actually get together in the book. It was a really sweet moment.
