Dan please never stop making these videos. I commented a good while back about chronic pelvic pain after a routine less invasive surgery in Nov. of 2020. Then developed harsh back pain about 2 months ago that kept me from doing so many things. After coming back to your videos and combining those with Dr. Sarno’s books… both my pelvic and back situations were TMS. It’s sad as I read through the books because so many people can’t get out of the mindset that the discomfort doesn’t have to be chronic because they don’t know how much control they really have. Unfortunately, especially for my pelvic issue, it was a full 1 year and a half of searching for the physical diagnosis before TMS became my diagnosis of exclusion. I’m only 23 years old but I’ve always been active and enjoyed life. I just have a good number of the traits that Dr. Sarno mentions (perfectionist, etc.) lol… the point is thank you so much, Dan. My pelvic issue isn’t 100% resolved yet, but I know I’ll get there soon enough. Cheers from Scranton, PA!

Yes. I wake up with dread, fear and sadness with how things have turned out for me since my accident. I am sure that’s why it’s worse for me in the am. I am trying to wake up and pray a prayer of thanks for the positive things in my life.
Keep in mind, the body heals. Any symptoms that remain after the typical healing timeframe likely have become learned by the brain through fear and attention. I can never tell … sometimes I’m woken up by the sensations and other times not, but it may come on later in the morning. Sometimes they come on mid afternoon or early evening. If I don’t take preemptive pain relief in the evening prior to bed, after one or two hours sleep the sensations hit big time and then managing and releasing them is challenging. I’m always excited when I make it through the day (like today! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻) without medication until nighttime. One of my several goals is to be completely drug and sensations free. My doctor doesn’t believe this is possible, but I KNOW it is. I am not broken! 🌷 Thank you again for your daily support, Dan. 🙏🏼
At the beginning I'd take half dosage paracetamol and tell my self I'd taken a full one. Worked. Then I'd pretend I'd taken it when I hadn't. Worked. Madness. But obviously if we take the pain relief for TMS we are sending the brain a message that something is wrong. Just my opinion. Wishing you well getting there, you can do it
You can get there. I might suggest some positive visualization about being able to sleep through the night. It may take practice, but that consistent message envisioning a great night sleep can, over time, influence the brains perception of safety. The brain can literally create what we expect. Begin to expect the best.
Thanks Dan, I found this useful. Back in May I started getting woken by intense pain across my shoulder blades/ribs. Looks like it’s chronic pain! After dealing with my original chronic pain & almost recovering from it completely, now I go & get this! It’s challenging not to want to find out why, how, etc… but it’s starting to hit home that I need a few things - self compassion, consistent safety messages, & you mentioned in another comment positive affirmations for a good nights sleep! I will start doing this because I’m done with being woken up in pain every night since May!! Thanks as always.

Cortisol highest in AM. GABA at its lowest. So in addition to the predictive coding we also have body chemistry working “against” us in the morning. The body gives us “wake up” hormones early which if we are anxious or stressed can feel like panic/anxiety/bad dreams etc.
Yes and that chemistry can be so disregulated that the same problem happens in the evening.. to much cortisol then so insomnia sets in.. together with pain/ other symptoms..
That is true and what I touched on in this video. However, it is how we respond to those anxious thoughts and sensations that determines how long we stay in that state.

Focus on safety and finding hope. Depression is sadness + no hope. Find hope and depression can lift. Your brains top priority is survival and safety. Happiness is not at the top of the priority list. Find safety and you will begin to feel happier.
I struggle with delayed onset pain after exercise. Knee arthroscopy 15 months ago, a new MRI is all clear. I know and believe it’s a healthy knee. The pain comes on an hour or more later (feels just like typical tendon/muscle inflammation/strain), and intensity correlates with exercise intensity. It can take days to weeks to settle, depending on how bad the flare was. I’m stuck in these cycles. So not to do with daily changes in pain and emotions and thoughts etc and self soothing won’t calm it. Rest will. I had a consultation with a TMS pain specialist, he said simply using tissues in the body can send a signal to the brain that this isn’t safe resulting in delayed onset pain. I suspect there’s an underlying fear that exercise will hurt. I have this sinking feeling when it starts to hurt. Maybe I’m looking out for it, but gentle exercise usually doesn’t bring it on so it’s not a given that I’ll get pain. It depends if I cross some threshold. Struggling with how to manage this!

My LBP starts acting up in the evening after I’ve managed to keep myself distracted with physical activities throughout the day. In the evening though I have to face my anxieties and fears directly. That’s when my left leg and LB act up a bit. Not as bad as before. Not debilitating. But I can see how staying busy is a strategy I use to evade fear. Harder to do during down time in the evening.
Hey Bruce - I try to view it as engaged in life and living, instead of distraction to avoid fear. If we are distracting ourselves - it's still all about the pain. Live life. There's nothing to fix.
I'm beginning to think my TMS is because I'm bored with how my life is and it's filling a gap. Maybe a midlife thing and a big birthday around the corner.🤔🙄 Catch 22 to step out and change it because I'm letting fear fuel it. I know I can do it. Anyone else

So everyday is ‘danger’ , how can I break through this? I’ts so difficult to change my livingcontext, I became very isolated passed years through the pain stuff and unhappy, so all ingrediënts for my brain to feel fear ; A very difficult negative circle …
My brain perceives being out of the bed as dangerous That is why it gets worse the more I sit or stand throughout the day But, it keeps getting better!
My pain. Migraines are not only worse in the morning. They wake me. But that's the only time they come. I'm unique. But don't want to be. No other symptoms just pain and just wake me. Every day.
I feel you. Migraines and heavy headaches are part of my 18 year journey too. But no neurologist can find something so it’s pdp/ Tms. Wish you lots of strength on this healing path and know that you are not alone! Take good care of yourself!🤗💕
That answered questions for me, my digestive problems start about an hour after I get up at times then all the others symptoms join in, and I feel unwell for about 2 hours, it can also happen after my main meal, there's more work to be done 🌤️☀️

How should we respond to depression, when nothing feels fun? Or no motivation or interest in anything.

Yesterday’s video has left a big impression on me. Plus Morning dread is a big issue to overcome.
I get it , im 56 and the fear is a habit , boring job ect
I agree, though in my case the pandemic has been playing a large role. I live with someone at high risk and that limits my socialization and hobbies.

Anxiety fight and flight stops the digestive system then the stomach issues start. I suppose trying to be indifferent is the answer.
