    Very good and professional work! Two days ago, I bought the same device for myself, I just love Teac (Tascam)! Subscribed a few days to your channel! I am also a radio mechanic, my name is Vadim, I shake your hand!🤝🤝👍

    Having just been handed the problem of transferring some cassettes I’ve been looking at various machines and how to service them. A Denon DRM-550 landed at home supposedly fully serviced etc, let’s just say your videos on motor refurbishment gave me sufficient confidence to at least replace the motor and do a few other tweaks. The old motor had significant carbon on the brushes and just wasn’t speed stable. The other deck is a Tascam 112mk2 - the belt goop is amazing stuff, yuck, and gear C has exploded! Currently with a proper repair engineer. Your videos are inspirational but I know my limits!

    Very nice video and so easy to follow along. Thank you very much! Can you provide the version # of Krytox grease you used? I see there are several versions of it (assuming it's in the GPL - general purpose lubricant line). Is there a reason you don't use that for all grease applications in this video? I noticed you pulled out a different one for the idler components. Thanks again.

    • @asbcustom
      @asbcustom  Год назад +1

      Thanks AV, I'm using GPL205 here and would have no problem using it on the other components as well, both lubricants are an order of magnitude superior to the factory stuff. I find the little tub easier to draw up a fractional amount than the squeeze tube, if Krytox offered theirs this way, I would be using it instead.

    Dear sir, first of all, thanks for the advice and the video. On my Tascam 122 MKII the problem when recording is that after about halfway through the tape it loses speed and plays the sound in slow motion relative to the input. I assume it's because of the capacitor and the power supply itself. What would be your advice in this case? Big greetings.

      On the 122mk2, the motor PCB requires recapping, and the transport a full overhaul. I have several videos detailing the entire process, it's different from the 112mk2 in this video.

    This was huge help. I got the belt and tire in but now I have discovered a bad gear on the far right motor assembly. The gear on the motor is fine. It is the stepped down receiving gear that is bad. I believe this motor engages the heads and capstan to the tape. Where do you get these at? From Tascam?

    • @asbcustom
      @asbcustom  Год назад

      Yes, I think you're referring to the infamous "C" gear. They are available from many sources, I buy the laser sintered ones from a German seller on Ebay. Just look for the most expensive ones and find "laser sintered" in the description. Those are the only ones I use.

      @@asbcustom Great to know. I am thinking on just replacing them all.

    • @asbcustom
      @asbcustom  Год назад

      @VintageGearMan It's common practice in a gear train to include a gear of a different/softer material in order to quiet the assembly or act as a fail-safe, that is the one naturally prone to long term failure. I don't personally replace functional factory parts with non-factory equivalents because I find the factory parts typically to be superior. The "C" gear is the problematic one in this instance, so if the others are good, I tend to keep them.

    • @VintageGearMan
      @VintageGearMan Год назад

      So just replacing the C gear it is then. "Thank you" for taking time out to let me know the best possible replacement gear scenario.

      It's just my personal experience, your mileage may vary of course. If the part shows no signs of excess wear or failure, I will let them continue doing the job they've been doing.

    Your videos are super helpful, thank you for making them. Where can I go to find tires? I have an Aiwa tape deck that id like to replace the tires for but I cant find a good source. Thank you!

    • @asbcustom

      Thanks for watching! Which model Aiwa? I can look at my sources, they might have it listed. No promises though, there were a lot of decks out there once upon a time.

    • @Bacciagalupo

      @@asbcustom it’s an Aiwa AD-6800. Your video helped me rebuild the motor on it! Now it all plays but FF and rewind doesn’t quite work so good when the unit is in play mode. I’m suspecting the tire isn’t gripping properly anymore so I’d like to just replace them all if I can but it’s hard to know where to find tires anywhere. FF and RW works great when stopped but the FF puts a bit of extra slack in the tape.
