no spam - I bet you have but just did not recognize the “handle” as being stacked leather. The Ka-Bar Mark 2 knife that has been standard issue to USMC Devil Dogs since 1943 has a stacked leather Hilt (handle) and Estwing Hammers, Axes and knives also have had stacked leather gripes/handles additionally there has been a large number of other hunting knives that have been made with leather hilts/handles because they are durable as well as inexpensive and easy to construct.
@@gullreefclub I'm from Switzerland and here it's common to use wood or horn. If you see leather on handles then its wrapped around and stitched. My late granddad had an axe with a quite "strange" handle. Maybe that was stacked leather. It felt perfect in the hand and was very grippy, even with wet hands.
Also, Estwing hand tools - the choice of carpenters and geologists - have been producing hammers, hatchets, etc with stacked leather handles for almost 100 years.
It's awesome seeing the right way to use this method of leather stacking. Brooks makes a set of bicycle handlebar grips using this method, but the inevitably fall apart because they're so poorly made. Really nifty application for this!
Love that style of handle. I restored a USM8 knife from ww2 and I believe that's how the handle originally was although I made it from wood. Thanks for showing how to do it 👍
I love this. My great grandfather made knives with handles like this. He used rubber and brass washers stacked in a cool pattern then shaped it. Nice work, James!
I have been waiting for what feels like forever for a new video. I missed seeing your videos. I truly believe you are the most interesting person on RUclips and creative.
Yeah first I've ever seen. Ive made stacked leather handles and part of me thinks this is too easy but the part of me who did the leather punch for too many pieces wishes I had a laser too.
I like this because it shows traditional techniques and how technology can augment those techniques to made something beautiful. But I would like to see a burrito build video.... 🌯
YOU are back on Making It! So very happy to see you for a few seconds each of the two episodes. You actually spoke in the second episode and provided critical advice to a contestant. Look, I remember your TV show with you brother so I know how talented you are. You even have a title. Who do I need to talk to about more Jimmy? Amy and Nick are funny but you're funny also and the quintessential maker. That being said, I think you have a burrito problem. Step away from the burritos when at craft services on the set. All joking aside really appreciate seeing you on TV for season 2. Cheers!
Really cool handle Jimmy, the knife looks awesome! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ...... Everyone else is like, " burrito this" and "burrito that" 🌯🤷🏼♂️ ..... Being at the end of the production, I'd say that's a wrap! 😉
For a while! On the band saw! I thought I saw schawarma! The Turkish thing!!! Well, burrito, durum, shhh... it's almost the same! but here it's a handle designed by diresta! they need it
Good one Jimmy! I've never seen leather stacked like that. Me thinks that that handle will be around for a very long time. BTW, you should apply to be on the show "Forged In Fire" as I think that you would do well................. :)
I thought you were going to put a bulge in the center of the handle by making the leather circles slightly larger incrementally. So it fits the hand like a handle bar. Probably looks better this way. Nice and sleek.
Do your thing and ignore me all together. This is your channel and you are the Godfather of the genera. My two cents is that I love these videos because I want to learn how to do things. I was really excited to see this posted. However, once you start working with lazers...it's so far beyond me that I don't feel inspired anymore. Just a thought.
Seems like you're just coming up with various different ways to cut burritos Jimmy.. I respect that
Good man.
Dang it I'm only a week late lol but for real
Glad to see the burrito is back. One of the best characters on this show.
A close 2nd to "tiny hands"
That has to be the luckiest Burrito ever!!! Damn good craftsmanship and great video. Thank you Jimmy. You inspire many of us to be better at making
Nice to see you on TV again the past couple of days. Even though it was only for 17 seconds.
I've never seen a stacked leather handle before. Looks great, love it

no spam some small carpenters axes had it too
Also, Estwing hand tools - the choice of carpenters and geologists - have been producing hammers, hatchets, etc with stacked leather handles for almost 100 years.
@all I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for filling my knowledge gap👍
Learning never stops
Brilliant way of using that cutter .no burn.looks like a very comfortable knife to cut with.👍🏿
Always appreciate the mix of old world tech with the new. Nicely done.
Cutting the leather rings on the laser cutter is one hell of a good idea!
It's awesome seeing the right way to use this method of leather stacking. Brooks makes a set of bicycle handlebar grips using this method, but the inevitably fall apart because they're so poorly made. Really nifty application for this!
I love a leather stacked handle! 😍
Subtle changes in the colour, type of leather look really good as well.
I recently purchased an old ka-bar with this style handle. Vary cool to see the process of how it was made.
Love that style of handle. I restored a USM8 knife from ww2 and I believe that's how the handle originally was although I made it from wood. Thanks for showing how to do it 👍
A Rolex in the machine shop! Never seen that before!
Thanks Jimmy. I hope your days make you smile as much as we do from sharing them. Merry Christmas from Australia and all the very best for 2020.
I love this. My great grandfather made knives with handles like this. He used rubber and brass washers stacked in a cool pattern then shaped it. Nice work, James!

The best hand held burrito slicer ever.
Great work as always. That cutting laser was really cool to watch. 👍
I always wondered how they made those types of handles. Thanks for showing us how it's made Jimmy 👍
Love the different methods shown here! Awesome work!
Beautiful knife...the burrito looks good, too
When you was slicing threw the leather it reminded me of those stacks of meat they slice off vertically in thin stips . Nice work !!
A lot of trouble to cut a burrito……. But worth it!!!! Awesome stuff!!! Love it!!!!
Another beautiful knife yet again Jimmy.
I just realized two things, how leather handled Estwing axes are made, and I really am craving a Gyro! Thanks, Keep up the great work

Yeah first I've ever seen. Ive made stacked leather handles and part of me thinks this is too easy but the part of me who did the leather punch for too many pieces wishes I had a laser too.

Really cool handle Jimmy, the knife looks awesome! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ...... Everyone else is like, " burrito this" and "burrito that" 🌯🤷🏼♂️ ..... Being at the end of the production, I'd say that's a wrap! 😉

Nice knife handle, but that burrito! "I want to go to there!"
Before you tube I had no idea making knives was so popular!
Where does he get those wonderful toys!!
Who doesn’t like a good Shawarma? Love that handle!
I don't know why I was shocked that it sliced through the burrito so easily. 👍
I wonder how BLO would work on leather and if it would be a good fit for the intended use of the knife...
Now thats a knife! :D
I thought you were going to put a bulge in the center of the handle by making the leather circles slightly larger incrementally. So it fits the hand like a handle bar.
Probably looks better this way. Nice and sleek.
Save here from Brasil 👏👏👏💖
