In this video, I partner with Nicks Boots to develop a boot knife and sheath. I make a prototype twist release sheath, and a knife with a classic leather stacked handle. This is my first attempt, and I may try something more simple and concealable in a future video. I hope that you enjoy this handmade boot knife metalworking project.
Nicks Handmade Boots has been making the toughest work boots since 1964. Their boots are USA made by skilled craftsmen in Spokane, WA.

The noise it makes when it clicks home is so satisfying great make !!!
What fascinates me the most is how it perfectly clicks into place. It's a very clever design and it's also simple but effective. Now make a left-handed one Jimmy ;)
Now that's cool
Bobby I was wondering when I'd see you on here lol
Do you want that?
@@vinniekinchela2847 dont be silly, thats not wowed
I want that.
Bobby!!!
Jimmy is more proficient on a band saw than most people are with a freaking pencil
He's also more proficient with a spray can than most people with a brush
I have Never seen such ingenuity and creativity as this piece of Art
It’s amazing. But the “no gloves” approach really triggers my pucker factor lol
Did I just get convinced to start wearing a boot knife
You and me both.
Sir please how can I buy this knife here
From that piece of shit?
other people be like "ok, gotta shape on the belt sander, use heavy grit"
Jimmy: bandsaw go BRRRRRR
while I was reading your comment I hear a vehicle hit the safety grooves and it made the perfect brrrrt sound.
I literally said that same thing to the person in the room with me.
I have said it in other of his videos. I refer to it as bandsaw whittling.
You know its gonna be a great video, when it starts with a box of scraps :>
Obediah Stain would disagree
@@BeatNazty Im not Tony Stark...
Cowboys from Hell. I see you’re a man of culture as well.
@@TactileLoki Yep ^^
Aint that the truth
from someone that wears a boot knife all the time, it looks really cool but cold in the winter snow and a little too long to be comfortable. Mine has a leather sheath and I like to keep my knife around 4-5 inches for comfort. It's basically a skinning knife for me, but that's what I like. You still did a great job, it looks really cool
Jimmy whenever he notices the hair on his arm has grown back: whelp, time to make a new knife or axe I guess!
Seriously. Who shapes with a bandsaw? Awesome job!
Seeing Jimmy freehand on the bandsaw really is inspiring
@@ktulu193 As is the crooked pinky he has when he cut off a portion of it...safety first! LOL!
The man can do anything with a bandsaw. Happy to say I’ve watched him work his magic on the bandsaw in person!
Personally I think freehand shaping brass with a razor blade on a lathe is the cooler one he does.
Jimmy
I love Nick’s boots I just ordered a pair for my cargo trailer to stealth camper conversion project. You’re an inspiration honey. 💃🏾👏🏾💯
I often come here thinking "I'll watch a few minutes". I always end up watching all your videos in their entirety. Really nice job.
Knives, leather and brass. What else could we even want from Jimmy?
5/5 stars, no doubt.
What else could a man want?
As a maker, and a knifemaker, I am doubly impressed!
Jimmy os the reason why we need to take our shoes off the airport...
Reflecting on all the cool things Jimmy has made from back in his small shop to where is he now. Always a joy to watch these creative and cool builds.
Dude the twist knife is Genius!!! 👉🏻😳💥
Didn't quite know what you were going with at first. But the execution is wonderful.
You've grown so far as an artist in the few years I've been watching you.
Well done!! 100% Scratch Material, to a fully functional Boot Knife, complete with Brass Hand Crafted Scabbard. Bravo Maestro!
How could people dislike this? The guys an artist.
447 idiots that’s why LOL
So Awesome Jimmy! I need a boot knife, super clever design.
Fireball Tool: I need a boot knife.
Custom designs a boot Claymore sword...
Airn5475 You know me to well. I was just thinking that.
Nobody needs a boot knife. You will look like a mall ninja
Im not bashing you, but why do you need it?
Jason’!!! Thx bro!!
It's not news to anybody, but Jimmy is a damn craftsman. The confidence to just make something from nothing never ceases to impress me.
👊🏼👊🏼🙏🏼
I love this classic knife shape! Boots look pretty comfy too. Thanks for sharing!
That's really an awesome design on a boot knife. Keep up the great work
One of the best parts is not interrupting the wizard at work with 12 commercials in a span of 12 minutes! Innovative and beautiful work as always!
I hope I turned off the mid rolls ??? Did i?
@@jimmydiresta Yup - no midrolls thankfully
Genius! I was thinking the hole was something to do with the heat treatment but wow! That’s insanely good idea. Another great video.
Also - awesome boots! Gonna have to get me a pair of those!
I have anxiety over that anvil man haha. That thing moves more than my toddler
Band saw carving and shaping. More skills to learn. Love it.
11:40 As expected, the classic 'hand shave' shot... (it was either that or cutting a burrito)
The paper thing, the arm shave, cutting a burrito is all well and good, but today I saw a video of a guy slicing cleaning though a 2 - 3 inch diameter roll of blue jean denim. Now, THAT was pretty impressive.
@@Ricopolico yeah shaving of the hair on the arm is so 2019 lol
Jimmy: "Starting today, band saws shall be known as shapers!"
I bought a boot knife a few days ago and then you upload this video. Awesome.
Got a new pair of Urban Loggers from Nick's last year, they are the most comfortable boot/footwear I've ever owned, they fit like a glove could wear them to sleep in after a 20 hour day.
Hey thanks for making me some cool funky knife boots Brother 😲😊😜. I love these 😎😎👍🏽
Love your channel!!!
@Ashley Stephenson what? That's such a strange comment how is a stiletto more deadly... it's no the k life but the person who wields it...
@Ashley Stephenson €€
That is friggin sweet! I love the whole thing! That is so cool! Man, keep up the great videos! You are so creative!
Love these vids with just work and no banter. Well done
Fall/Winter 2020 Maker Fashion Week. The boot knife IS the new little black dress!
Here we have NY designer Jimmothy Direstino with a visionary take on scrap box fashion with a twist! His use of leather and brass is inspiring. I wouldn't be caught dead at the galas without my new boot knife at the ready.
Jimmy.... local legend states that he has long been know as "The band saw wizard".

Mr newt LOVE IT! 🤣😂🤣
Wow!!!!!! That’s one of Coolest things I’ve seen!!!
DiResta, i’ve got to hand it to you, you’re one savvy blacksmith and machinist. Very creative and very nicely done! True Master at your craft.
Can we get a shirt that says "In DiResta We Trust" on it, please?
I'm convinced Jimmy can make an ice sculpture on the band saw.
I’m convinced Jimmy would make an ice sculpture of a bandsaw!
Great Video! Nicks Boots is my uncle's boot shop! No doubt they are the best around!
Dude this has got to be the coolest "makers" video i've ever seen on this platform, holy cow
What a blessing to have such a creative mind. I would’ve never been able to come up with this concept, yet after seeing it come to fruition, it makes such sense. Not sure where it falls on the practicality scale as I simply carry a pocketknife. Nonetheless very enjoyable to watch the process come to life. Thanks for sharing.
A pocket knife and a fix blade knife are two very different things my friend
Cool design! The brass makes it very attractive!
You can see a pattern in the way he retains a knife or a tool in its holster..... Extremely far from normal and I love it¡! 😊 Keep killing it man..... Amazing workmanship and creativity¡! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've never seen anybody more obsessed with their own name.
Jakub Červinka his name is his brand dude, and people can’t hawk your content if your brand is always on the screen somewhere.
once a week jimmy performs open Heart and Brain surgery with his Bandsaw on Netflix
This guy is unbelievable. Great work. Very fancy. Elegant too.
Very well done and quite unique. I'm impressed. I would like to see a lightweight concealed version that slips inside the boot and sits higher.
Free handing on a band saw
“Look mom no hands”
Is that a "Spawn" reference? :))
@@adriansandu2583 unfortunately no, I don’t even know what “spawn” is
I also like to spray paint my last name on everything i own.
He does that because people steal his videos and reupload them.
I have been a welder/fabricator for 16 years now .. solid video ,sweet knife . one tip bud . fold your pant leg inward instead of outward, outward creates a spot to catch sparks and burn your feet . KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING
I used the leather string guards off my boots to make a boot knife sheath holder for my boot knife. But this is amazing.
i love it, but my inner OSHA just keeps thinking "pinch point!"
-you've yee'd your last haw partner!
Okay Dean!
Very skilled , very impressive. Thank you for sharing your video.
Nicely done Jimmy. I've been collecting knives since I was a kid. Its the unique ones that always catch my eye. Stay well.

"Because when I remove the blade I keep in my boot from its sheath, I can't return it until it has spilled bloooooood."
Love the whole project but all that bandsaw shaping is extra awesome.
Nice boots and beautiful knife. Makes a great pair. I would own both of them. Thumbs up to you sir!
I bet that put a spring in your step.
Круто... для 19-го века и дикого запада. А ныне в моде Глок 19 🙂
Came for the nicks and now I want a knife for my pair
Geez.... the things you come up with! Amazing!!

That is a beautiful boot knife...
Worth about 5 years in the pen.
I'd honestly go with a smaller blade hidden INSIDE the booth. It's tall enough to mount a small sheath on the inside.
Ideally that’s what a boot knife is. Over the shoe seems a little too inconspicuous unless covered with pants
Just started vid but I love it already I'm so proud of how far you've came with your knife making.. edit: HOLY SHIT !!!!! even more amazing than ide thought...
Still need grinding practice 😅😅😅 👊🏼🙏🏼
@@jimmydiresta that's all part of the fun brother.. but I was blown away by your sheath choice..
Me encanta!!!
Excelente idea y muy práctico!
Saludos desde Córdoba Argentina
The guy is excellent craftsman
BTW, i have always been taught to put cork in the inside of a hard sheath to avoid the blade getting dull making contact...
but looking at the way you shave you hairs with the knife, you might be too professional for my understanding. well done again !
also brass is softer than steel so no biggie
I think the blade side is just protection and the edge never hits the brass. But personally had the same thought before
меня одного удивляет : почему у него до сих пор все пальцы на месте?
wearing my Nick's boots while watching this video. best boots I've ever spent $700 on.
$550 initially, $160 for a rebuild. bought em in 2012
back when they were in HILLYARD!
Always impressed by the level of detail you get on your bandsaw before ever sanding or filing your handle
You can probably identify knifemakers by the missing patches of hair on their arms and legs.
Very awsome . But what about the metal
Sheath damaging the blade ?
С первого раза же не понятно как он достается из ножен, надо показать ещё 200 раз)
The boots are nice enough, the knife is just cool.
For all the years I've been watching these creations, one thing never changed...
The Ultimate Blade-Hair Test.. Keep it up JD...
If “Tony Stark built this in a cave, with scraps” was a person
Also, I’m old enough to remember the Oreo patterned plastic was used for push sticks.
Make sure and ground the lead next time 😆
Holy crap I'm in love with this knife SUBSCRIBED!!!!!
Great project ! Lots of good techniques used !
Говорят у JimmyDiresta уже совсем нет волос на руках, поэтому он использует дублёра 😁😁😁
а на ладошках?
In Jersey it’s legal, as long as you don’t get caught!!😂😂😂
There was a case in Belmar NJ where a contractor was wearing a work knife. GUILTY of "weapons" charge.
Edward. I heard about that. When he was fired, he was hard up for cash so stayed up all night selling cocaine and hash
Ken got the Tweeter & The Monkey Man reference! 😂
Paul K, anything is "legal" in Chicago as long as you don't get caught! 😎
@@edwardschmitt5710 it's a different world since school shooters and terrorists. The plane's on September 11th were hijacked with freaking box cutters! A lot of things are now deemed deadly weapons. I had a really small knife on my keyring, my Grandpa and Dad always had one so I did, too. Carried it on airplanes, concerts, etc. Hell, it went through CIA security when I toured The State's Capital and The White House! But, it was confiscated by White Sox Park's Security! 😃
I have never seen so much shaping done with a bandsaw nice 👍
Functional, and it's a really nice knife to boot!
We’re not allowed to carry knives in Scotland 😕. Can’t behave ourselves 🤷♂️
It's because the English are afraid you'd start another rebellion
They take your gun and your knives and you still wanted to stay in the UK??
"Serious Work Boots". I SERIOUSLY doubt a working man can afford $550 boots.
I'm a working man and I can without making CC payments. Not sure why you think blue collar workers work for peanuts
@@steveeab2364 Good for you Steve. I'm glad you've got lots of money to spend. Many of us working guys with kids in college and truck payments have to settle for a $150 pair of Redwings.
@@JohnDaker_singer it's all about budgeting. I've got a modest home I'm making affordable payments on. F-150 and car are paid off. Wife is a stay at home mom to four kids, none of which are near college age. I pay cash for my toys, including a pair of $500 Nicks boots, but admittedly I steer clear of the boats, trailers side by sides despite my desire for something like that.
Cheaper than buying new boots every year. Spoken like someone who doesn't work and can't budget.
Very impressive. This is a level of craftsmanship you don't see everyday.
I’m a wildland firefighter, and this is a game changer!!!
That's awesome!!! I would 100% buy that!!!
God of bandsaw!!!!!! Amazing as always........
That's an awesome knife... Simply love it..
Great job Jimmy. Over 200k views and only 10k likes... this is how I know people are monsters as a whole.
