I purchased the 2980-20 (4-1/2 to 6”) model this week and immediately used it with a diamond concrete wheel to grind down high spot tripping hazards on a concrete walkway and it worked flawlessly... Awesome tool 😎
Love how easy it is to put the type 1 guard on! Supposed to use a type 1 guard whenever using a cutting wheel - doesn't matter if it is a type 1 or type 27 cutting wheel. Its just for added safety in case the thin cutting wheel breaks apart - this way you have coverage on both sides of the wheel with less chance that the flying wheel parts will bite you. I always use the type 27 cutting wheels because they are more centered in the guard. Great review!
Yes, I think it can replace any corded grinder. Maybe not all day, but for a couple of hours, no problem. I picked up a 1st gen last year, it's replacing my 30 year old corded Dewalt. 90% of what I do takes less then 5 minutes to do, but dragging out 50 ft of extension cord and raping it up took more time then the job. What I love about the grinder. It makes less noise. It's more balanced, the Dewalt was front end heavy, with the M18 battery at the back end, it just feels better in my hands, balanced. And, no more cord, or even a air hose. Good Job Milwaukee ! .
I picked this up at Home Depot on a sale for $200 with a 5.0 battery. I try to avoid picking up those batteries by themselves cause the prices make me question life and its meaning.....lol
I ordered this grinder and two 5 amp red lithium batteries. I was worried about the batteries not being powerful enough but after watching this I'm not concerned.

Great video, well worth the time. Just got this tool in a combo package with the mid-torque impact wrench for $299. Had to figure out what to do with it. Thanks for the info.
To be honest, we don't have the Gen1 in the shop. My understanding is that power is definitely up, but I can't answer to that with hands-on experience. I really don't think this would have a hard time with 1/2" gas lines.
Great review, all the info I need and not a bunch of BS, so now I got a 2880 grinder and love it also from your review learned about ceramic disc's which now have, may scrap the flap wheels.
I have the kit with two 6.0Ah batteries and can easily see a difference versus the 5.0Ah batteries. The 6.0Ah HO has more torque and lasts noticeably longer. In my opinion this angle grinder has better ergonomics than its competitors.
That's awesome and great to hear. By no means is the ergonomics uncomfortable to me. At the same time, it is a noticeable difference, so that's why I mentioned it in the video. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews do they make one with a variable speed switch as my 14+ year's old corded one has it but its dead/stolen in 2022 and im looking for a cordless replacement
Definitely use the 6 AH HO + on this tool. The 5 AH doesn't deliver what the machine is capable of. I tried using a 12 Ah HD on it and there wasn't really that much difference between this and the 6 Ah HO. 12Ah HO batteries make a real difference in the circular saw for sure.

I bought the 2880-20 yesterday because my corded DeWalt had stopped working. Based on all the positive reviews, I really was disappointed in how quickly the battery drained when I used it for grinding. Starting with a fresh battery, I don't think I got 5 minutes out of it. I had to figure out what was wrong with the DeWalt and go back to using it. I'm sure the Milwaukee will be nice to have out on job sites where I need to cut or grind something small, but I don't think it's anywhere near capable of replacing a corded grinder.
