What I don't like about this video is that it proves to me how wrong I was to miss Matt Cavenaugh's brilliant performance. I've been a fan of Cavenaugh's ever since I saw him in URBAN COWBOY. What a wonderful Tony - and what a wonderful vocal delivery of this great song.
I watched the video and listened to the performance before reading the comments. I’m glad I did because I really can’t believe the nastiness in the criticisms. I trust instead to my ears: a good voice, terrific technique, a relaxed confident manner in the delivery - Mr Cavenaugh has star stamped all over him. What might potentially block his progress is that his type of voice is being written less and less for these days; the pop belt is firmly in fashion. Just look at the leading Broadway men and ladies from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and see how few of them are getting leads today in original musicals. At this rate, we may see them again only in revivals on tour.
I havent read all of the comments, just that people are saying that many think he's bad. Maybe I'm just easily impressed and very inexperienced (which i am for both). However, I love his voice! It's beautiful and he sings this song really easily!
Could be, who knows? There's something due any day I will know, right away Soon as it shows It may come cannonballing down through the sky gleam in its eye, bright as rose Who knows? It's only just out of reach Down the block, on a beach under a tree I got a feeling there's a miracle due gonna come true, comin' to me Could it be, yes it could Something's comin', something good If I can wait Something's comin' I don't know what it is But it is gonna be great With a click, with a shock Phone'll jingle, door will knock Open the latch Something's comin' don't know when But it's soon catch the moon one handed catch Around the corner Or whistlin' down the river Come on, deliver to me Will it be, yes it will Maybe just by holding still It'll be there Come on, something, come on in Don't be shy, meet a guy pull up a chair The air is humming And something great is coming Who knows? It's only just out of reach Down the block, on a beach Maybe tonight Maybe tonight Maybe tonight
He has one of the better voices of the younger generation (too many have no meat, shadings, or substance to them), his acting is more of a thinking kind rather than an emotional kind. things have a very planned out look to them. Being an actor used to mean the mind, body, spirit, and soul connects with all the research and prep done. Hence the term tripple threat was created for the Broadway performer (as opposed to Broadway actor), both styles are wonderful but have differences in approaches. today too many of the Broadway performers are more fragmented, and are not as well rounded as the performers before the 1980s horrible and massive destruction of the Broadway community between Andrew Llyold Webber and Aids. With youtube it makes it easier to cross compare the generation to see how much we have lost. Maybe a better Director could pulled more of the potential out of Mr. Cavenaugh and helped him soar ever higher.
I'm sorry but how did that voice get on a professional stage? Very thin and reedy, hits a high note but man...man that's a C- even among community theater.
I so agree and he seems to constrict himself in the throat as well as being slightly nasal makes some pretty unattractive sounds actually...and sort of off key.
Almost as bad as "Maria". "maybe just by holding still it will be there" this is your character saying that, doesn't mean you have to stand still through the whole song expecting talent to come to you
Okay like I kind of wanted to disagree at first but I bust out laughing out how amazingly clever this is and then when I calmed down watched again and kinda see your point
Everything about this is bad. from the rhythm to the orchestrations. and the singer is among the quilty. he doesn't know the rhythm. Just horrible. The orchestra especially.
I personally love Matt's Tony. He has a very classical, effortless voice which fits the role quite well

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE MY FRIENDS. IT TAKES YEARS OF HARD WORK TO MAKE IT LOOK AND SOUND SO EASY. BRAVO
And now he's quit. 😔
@Blair Bart He quit acting because no one wanted to hire him anymore.
@Blair Bart What's his FB name?
He nailed “around the corner” I can’t believe it
I love his voice so much, his vibrato is amazing
i love Matt’s performance as tony and he absolutely nailed it. his voice fits the character so well.
Con Matt vi yo la función de West Side Story en Broadway - vi ese musical dos veces en esa oportunidad. Espero volver a verla algún día.
he has the best voice EVER.
0:47 something *good*
That kid is a star. A star.

I love Matt Cavenaugh.
I like his voice.

I thought it was Jim Carey ❤️
Could be, who knows?
There's something due any day I will know, right away

It's only just out of reach
Down the block, on a beach under a tree
I got a feeling there's a miracle due gonna come true, comin' to me
Could it be, yes it could
Something's comin', something good
If I can wait
Something's comin' I don't know what it is
But it is gonna be great
With a click, with a shock
Phone'll jingle, door will knock
Open the latch
Something's comin' don't know when
But it's soon catch the moon one handed catch
Around the corner
Or whistlin' down the river
Come on, deliver to me
Will it be, yes it will
Maybe just by holding still
It'll be there
Come on, something, come on in
Don't be shy, meet a guy pull up a chair
The air is humming
And something great is coming
Who knows?
It's only just out of reach
Down the block, on a beach
Maybe tonight
Maybe tonight
Maybe tonight
He is so hot. Now go.
Está buenísimo.
Great!
Anthony Perkins The Musical!!!!
He's kind of a hottie.

His vibrato kills me............
hot hot but bad bad
This is not legal, right? Just saying. I'm feeling a little guilty watching it but I just can't stop myself.
Iviewed a former Broadway that already 'Senior' and Matt is ... better than him. he picturized Tony more and nicer ...
That vibrato.....eh.
he sang this as if it were a pop song.
I'm sorry but how did that voice get on a professional stage? Very thin and reedy, hits a high note but man...man that's a C- even among community theater.
+tim clifton well that's just not true
I so agree and he seems to constrict himself in the throat as well as being slightly nasal makes some pretty unattractive sounds actually...and sort of off key.
hes a good singer but his voice does not match tony at all.
His vibrato and nasal singing is annoying. Shame, he's hot though!
dude what
Oh god, he can't act either.

Where doesn't he know the rhythm?
