BYD’s hybrids (PHEVs) are fully electric drive and use the internal combustion engine generate electricity to extend the range and recharge the battery. The Plug in Hybrids are popular because they minimise range anxiety, have longer range and are flexible. For most of the time in cities, they operate as full EVs and are charged by the grid. But on road trips where there may not be convenient fast charging stations, drivers can rely on the combustion engine to extend the range of their PHEV. Most people in Asian cities live in apartments that may not have the charging infrastructure that fully electric BEVs need. PHEVs are a practical option. Sacrificing a spacious frunk in BEVs still allows such people to drive a EV (PHEV). No point being a purist and building only BEVs if many people don’t have home garages to charge BEVs.
The license plates of all but one of the cars, including the bus waiting at the traffic lights that were caught by the camera while crossing the road 0:10, are green. 😅
