Totartle being Water/Grass is really weird. You essentially have 2 Grass starters. Whoever made the Scizor sprite is my hero. It looks so sick ❤
Ideally totartle would be mono water and then maybe blastoise would be a different type but they couldn't change the originals
We went with Grass/Water Totartle to distinguish it from the other Water-types, it was otherwise just...really bland, and kind of pointless. It's a Minogame, an ancient 10,000 year old turtle with seaweed for a tail, so to me, it made sense. Considering Blastoise is one of the worst Water-types in the game, while Venusaur and Charizard are some of the best of their kind, it felt at least a bit appropriate. The Grass part takes most of the game to come up, and the weaknesses to each other remain the same, so...
Should be Water/Fairy.

just beat the E4 + some of the post game for this romhack last night and it's so good, makes me sad that it's going under the radar like it has because it's genuinely great and to me at least the definitive version of the gen 1 games

I almost want to know more about Trampel. Elephants are my favorite animals, and while this guy captures parts I like in elephants, his design seems a bit simple, but I don’t recall seeing him in any betas or such.

In Satoshi Tajiri's manga there were some sketches from released and discarded Pokemon. Zou, an elephant, was one of them, alongside Baloonda, Cactus and Crocky.

2 questions. Why no cross gen babies like Mine Jr? And why Meltan? I know it was in Lets Go, but I wouldn't consider it a gen 1 Pokemon or a evolution od any gen 1 pokemon
As I recall, the 8-bit integers used for Pokédex numbers means they cannot exceed 255 Pokémon in the Dex. And what with alternate forms requiring separate numbers, not all future Gen 1 family connected mons and beta mons could fit. I believe Plague Von Karma chose to excuse existing babies because they’re functionally superfluous from a gameplay experience, but babies we never got, like the earlier forms of Meowth and Vulpix, at least have some cool novelty.

@@ghozt3167 Either the code base by Gen II games was sturdier enough to make that issue not relevant, or the devs literally re-programmed Dex numbers to use integers above 8-but. Plague von Karma said elsewhere in these comments (paraphrasing) that they tried that here but it caused way too many knock-on effects due to how fragile the Gen I code is, and while it could have been solved, it would have taken far too much effort and was beyond their capabilities without bringing in more people.
@@CartoonKarma Well, in Polished Crystal the Dex number weren't modify bc many Pokémon (Spearow line, Stantler, Hoppip line) were replaced by cross-gen evos (Sylveon, Leafeon, Gliscor, Porygon-Z, Rhyperior).

This is a good example of adding new Pokémon to an old region, adding not only some of the Pokémon that were cut from the gen 1 games but also adding the evolutions of some of the old Pokémon from generation 1, regional variants and some of the newer legendaries
There should be more Pokemon games that introduces new Pokemon to the oldest regions, whether are new evolutions and regional variants or even brand new never before seen Pokémon or just have both in them
Truthfully only the babies, Houdour, and Murkrow are missing when it comes to kanto mons, and that was cause the game ran out of space

If an Alolan Meowth and Galarian Meowth exist, then, what happened to Alolan Coinpur and Galarian Coinpur, the regional variant of Coinpur.
Actually judging from what I'm seeing here it looks like only the final evolutions of regional variants are here, so I assume Coinpur evolves into Kanto Meowth, which then evolves into either Kanto Persian, Alolan Persian or Perzerker based on some unknown criteria

Gorillaimo is a beta Pokémon from the earliest known pitch for the original Pokémon. Not much is really known about it.
As for the baby Pokémon, we ran out of space. RBY can only store a maximum of 254 Pokémon.

What happened to the pre-evolved form of Alolan Grimer, the regional variant of the pre-evolved form of Kantonian Grimer. The reason I say this was because, much like the Hisuian pre-evolved form of Growlithe, I heard that the Kantonian Grimer was supposed to have a pre-evolved form. If so, there should be a pre-evolved form of Alolan Grimer.
You’ve asked this multiple times. There are three reasons:
1) A lack of space.
2) We weren’t going to make unofficial designs, we wanted to stick to the leaked assets only. It’s the same reason why we didn’t want to make stuff like Alolan Gorochu.
3) Baby Pokémon don’t have regional variants. Mime Jr. doesn’t, for example.

Alright, so here's what you're gonna do:
Totartle should obviously be called Tortidal.
Ribbito should be called Shintoad. (Shinto + toad)
Croakozuna is fine, leave it at that. (croak + "yokozuna", the highest rank in sumo wrestling)
Trampel should be Behemophant. (behemoth + elephant)
Blottle and Pendraken should be called Calamenin (calamar, spanish for squid + melanin, the main component of octopus ink) and Inkraken. (ink + kraken)
Balumba should be Baloonder. (balloon + wander, while also a transcription of Japanese name, Borunda)
Buu is FAR too short for a big guy like that, he should be called Alasquatch. (Alaska + Sasquatch)
Vulpiii should be Thrennek. (fennec + three)
Kolta should definitely be changed to Charcolt. (charcoal + colt, a baby horse)
Take out the real Kangaskhan, keep Guardia, and label it as the ACTUAL Kangaskhan. There can only be one.
Orfry should be Finnow.
Wnat happened to Alolan Gorochu, the final evolved form of Alolan Raichu and a regional variant of Gorochu.

Cool fangame and all, but I don’t understand why they cut all the existing baby Pokémon while they turn the Zubat and Magnemite lines 4-stage and give Pokémon like Meowth and Ponyta pre-evolutions.
Ran out of space - would have had to refactor the Pokemon into 16-bit IDs, which was beyond our skill level. There is a repository that did it, but the code was ~7 years out of date and a bit buggy. I believe it still needed a ROM to build a complete thing. We had to pick what to prioritise, and the Kanto Prototypes were a priority, rather than the notoriously hated Johto babies.

@@pilot_aki Not a developer, but did just beat it last week. You just go to cinnabar island and in the building where you revive fossils, there’s a npc who will do trade evolutions with you. You can get to the cinnabar by the fourth badge tbh
@@josefcastillo8220 It’s interesting how they implemented it that way instead of creating a link cable item or turning them into level-up evolutions.
@@pilot_aki I know other hacks do the “link stone” or level up and i honestly believe level up is the way to go. Idk if they did a npc trader cause it was easier for them.

Why did the GSC prevolutions like Kolta, Vulpiii and Orfry get included but not the canonical Kanto prevolutions like Pichu, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid and Magby?
Kolta, Coinpur, Vulpiii and Orfry were all planned for Generation 1, and we wanted to prioritise Gen 1 beta Pokémon. The reason the rest weren’t added was limited space.
I like the name "Charcolt" better, because what kind of a name is "Kolta"?

Which emulator are you using and which settings? I’ve tried getting the Pokemon to display in color as they do here using retroarch but they never display the proper colors, only the monochromatic or SGB colors

It’s due to limited space. We could only add 251 Pokémon since RBY’s code only allows that much as of right now.

Yeah I was a little worried about that. It was originally faster. Just doing this was originally almost 25 minutes and adding locations would have made it way too long. Going to add a link in the description to a pdf for the location data.

What happened to the pre-evolved of the Hisuian Growlithe, the regional variant of the Kantonian Growlithe. The reason I say this was because I heard that Growlithe was supposed to have a pre-evolved form as well as an Hisuian variant of a pre-evolved form of Hisuian Growlithe.
It was cut from the game since Pokémon Red can only fit 251 unique Pokémon at most.
I have a complain:
Why does Wigglytyff and Clafable not fairy type even tho Alolan Ninetails, Sylveon and Galarian Weezing and Scream Tail are fairy type, and all of them in the same game?
To maintain compatibility with Red, Blue and Yellow. In order to keep things closer to RBY, and also to allow battling and trading between them and KEP, we couldn’t change their types.
I personally cherish the fact that they kept all things as close as possible
I really liked this rom hack at first but am I save glitched and lavender Town and I don't feel like starting over. there are too many weird typing and Dex inclusion/omission choices for me to want to care
Since there is Mega Blastoise and Gigantamax Blastoise and they bring back Blastyke as the original pre-evolved form of Blastoise while they also bring back Totartle as the real final evolved form of Wartotle, what happened to Mega Totartle and Gigantamax Tortartle.
If we wanted to bring Megas and Gigantamax forms into KEP, we would’ve designed one. But since we left them out due to space constraints and also the complexity of adding in something like that, they don’t exist.

It’s sadly due to limited space. Red and Blue only allow a maximum of 251 Pokémon at the moment, so the baby Pokémon had to be removed.

They’re official Pokémon that were cut during development.
If Coinpur is included so should Pichu
We prioritised cut Pokémon and evolved forms most of all, to give them a chance to appear in something. Since Coinpur was cut content, it got in over Pichu.
@@MarthaVsHumanity We would have seen Pikachu as an 4-stage evolution line if Pichu is added an starter pokemon and later in the journey, we evolved it into a Gorochu.
