I searched for a method to kill cicadas and what I got is kill cicadas killers that’s irony
I have cicada killer wasps and they are extremely aggressive ... I got stung 5 times in 2 weeks and my husband just got his 5th sting today. I just ordered a bee suit and I'm going to get these guys for good!
This is very interesting! I've been battling these critters for years. What percentage Permethrin solution do you need? Do you recommend a particular % solution to purchase?
I'm gonna charge them rent. I'll give them my backyard cuz it's too hard to share the space with them. Even hearing them crashing into my windows gives me the creeps.
Live and let live has been my approach to them for the past 4 years. No problem when it was one, then the next year when there were just a few of them. Last year there were quite a lot of them but even that population has been dwarfed by this generation. Currently I have at LEAST 100 of them swarming the area around my patio and as they are just emerging there will guaranteed be more every day this week. They are mating today and flying into windows, accidentally running into me when I'm out there. I don't want to kill anything, And my plan was to wait until they dig their humongous burrows, stick a water bottle bottle over there holes at night and then relocate them the next morning but that means I have to wait weeks before they're at that stage. And that means I'm not going to be able to use my yard the entire time. They're not aggressive at all, just stupidly accidentally in my face, but I can't walk across my yard barefoot for fear of stepping on them and getting a defensive sting. Heck I almost sat on one on a lawn chair this morning. This has to stop. I considered wasp spray and again I don't want to kill them at all but if I did want to kill them I'm not sure that I could even do it with wasp spray since it's a stream and they're just frenetically flying around. I'm a pretty good aim but I don't think I could get enough of them to make a difference without soaking my entire yard in pesticide
I know they are harmless and their sting isn’t that bad, but I can’t have them around because I have an irrational fear of bees/wasps especially big ones and can’t act normal when they are around.
They only come out once every 17 years lol.
@@therainmakerinsider Wrong, it's their prey that has that long cycle.
I have read professional entomology scientists saying the sting is very severe, like a small caliber gunshot wound. People who say it's mild took stings shortly after it discharged its venom into a cicada.
Learn about them and your fear will diminish lots.
I never really have had a problem with bees and wasps there both really friendly and only attack if you mess around with them too much bees help pollinate all our crops and wasps are better and chemical free way of pest control
They are not red wasps, they are black and yellow. Boiling water after dark works effectively.
Depends on which part of the country you're in. East coast ones are black and yellow. Some of the west coast ones are reddish brown or orange, yellow and brown.
PLEASE HELP. I will try the watering can with the solution. Can you please provide with the product name you used? i would like to purchase it. thank you
In the video she used permethrin but you can also use bifenthrin. Stop by anytime and we can show you our different products for this!
I think these things are driving my dog nuts at dusk/night. I see them all over my yard and holes in my yard. I also think I have lots of nests.
If you're able, take a photo of those holes and either stop by our store or email them to us and we can help identify them!
What is running up the ground on this video, at about 1 min 58 secs?
What you see is the water in the pond/fountain.
Omg I’ve been fighting infestations for 3 years with no end in sight. We have a crate myrtle that flowers all summer and our front lawn is a cicada killer airport. They are harmless but intimidating to neighbors. What is the product you use in the watering can? I need help. We had exterminators come and it didn’t do anything.
You can always landscape with plants less attractive to the wasps.
In the video she used Permethrin but you can also use Bifenthrin. These are easy products to use and they can help with many other pests as well.

Can you make any plant recommendations?@@litsci1877
I pour Home Defense straight out of the gallon refill bottle directly into their hole 🐝
That was all I had and can concur it seems to work. Used the bottle with the powered wand - placed the tip in the hole and let it flow. I applied it at night when everyone was home and the next day, I only saw one buzzing around instead of the 10 or so that would normally be there.
@@philshock3805 Thanks, I will try that, I Already have it
Will they attack me when I push mow over their mounds?
No they're harmless
Well my lawn guy refuses to cut on the side of my house where they are.....I am sick of them!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me what solution is in the water container? Thanks in advance!
Permethrin
In the video she used permethrin But you can also use Bifenthrin.
I guess you can get these pesticides at tractor supply or southern states or any other agri dealer?
We've got cicadas, wasps and yellow jackets this year in NC. Haven't seen any honey bees in a long time. Our outdoor cats and dog are eating the cicadas.
The cicadas are deafening now. I can hear them inside. It's making me nuts. Turned up the tv to drown it out. Sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock invasion of the flies movie.
If you grow peaches and apples, they destroy the fruit.
They don’t they only go after cicadas
Cicadas are usually the ones eating the fruit on your trees. If you have cicadas in your lawn then that will attract the cicada killers, but don't worry we can get rid of both of them. Feel free to call our store or stop by to learn about more options!
@@doityourselfpestandweedcon8729 I beg to disagree. I have never seen a cicada eating my fruit. I also see cicada killers 10 to every one cicada I see. The yellow jackets and cicada killers attack the top of the fruit that ripens first near the top of the tree and then work their way down.
Well this can't be correct. There are wholes in my yard.
They are harmless.. annoying but harmless.
Tell that to my yard! I have 10 giant holes in my yard and it's really unnerving to have huge wasps buzzing around your driveway.
While they don't usually pose a threat to humans, they can intrude on your landscaping causing damage.
Do not kill these creatures. They are important pollinators, they aren't aggressive, and if you get rid of pollinators, you won't have flowers and veg anyway. Just learn to work around them and at times of day/season when they're least active. Also, do not dump poisons into your yard; they wash off and contribute to waterway and water pollution problems.
Thank you for your comment! It's true that these bugs are very important and they have a part to play. We definitely do not want them to all disappear, but if they are intruding on people's lives then there are ways to repel them. We also offer organic products like the one used in this video so that your landscaping, gardens, and water won't be affected or polluted. If you have any questions please feel free to email, call, or stop by our store!
No need to kill these guys. They don't attack and only lay eggs in holes. Let them be.
Amen! Agreed.
Lols wait till one bites you
Yes, we agree. The customers who want them gone because of fear of allergies to possible stings are the ones we don't argue with. In our store we help customers one-on-one and encourage not killing insects when there is no need to.
The problem is where they choose to nest. I've got a growing issue with them right off my patio and while they may not actually "attack" to the point of stinging, it's pretty obvious from the agitated behavior they don't like intruding humans. Sorry, that's my space and I'm top of the food chain. (Mine don't even seem to live up to their names ... obnoxiously loud Cicadas are another issue around here. lol)
@@philshock3805 Agree, Phil. They will knock a man off his riding mower if given the chance.
