  • In this video Kara takes on the dreaded LONG JUMP OF DOOM CHALLENGE... Will she survive it!?
Kara is a MTB beginner but she is progressing so fast and for me teaching her it's been really rewarding seeing her progress. We started on the basics and progressed through beginner MTB tricks, learnt how to ride corners, hills and common bike park features including tabletop jumps and drop off's then eventually riding gap jump however in this video Kara pushing her limits & overcoming fear to face the dreaded long jump of doom!
In this video we are both using our Haibike LYKE 11 electric mountain bikes.
We hope that you enjoy the video! :)

Nice one Kara - questions to you both though:
    1) what power setting was your eeb in?
    2) do you think using a non-assisted MTB would have been shorter or longer distance?
    3) are the impacts worse because of all that weight in the eeb
    Great video tho 👍🏻

Hey Tom, was thinking a bit after seeing Kara try bigger and bigger jumps.... You're a professional with much more experience, so you can "cheap out" on protection because most of the stuff you do is very little risk to you. But as a beginner like Kara, she seems to only ever use a helmet and kneepads.
I remember when I started out with downhill biking, I felt pretty naked without anything but a helmet. But then I got full body protection (Chest, Back, Shoulders, Elbows and Gloves) and I can tell you it's pretty freeing.
Maybe you guys should consider having more protection on Kara? Learning how to ride faster and harder can end in disaster if she doesn't also learn how to bail from the bike or take falls properly.
From my own experience, wearing full protection makes me more unafraid of falling. My muscles may be sore for a few days, but falling in the beginner stages is very good because they are slow falls. It certainly helps today when/if I fall on much gnarlier terrain. Maybe Kara would feel much safer too and push herself just that little bit more for better progression (you can for example see that she picks up a lot of speed but still hesitates a bit and taps the brakes to drop some speed)

I agree, dangerous, those were actually screws and if you fell on those that would not have been pretty.

Wow, now that was impressive Kara. 15ft is huge. Tom would have cleared if he stuck with the big ramp but those landings are brutal. I think I'll stick with my smaller jumps. Well done both of you. Tom's one to manual was seriously cool. 😎👍

I agree that she could be better with all the equipment and instruction shes been given. Drives me up the wall that she has been given it all, and still cant do shit with it. She desperately needs leg strength, and to use them for other things other than peddling. Like absorbing a landing?
