    Former worship leader, song writer, teacher of theology, 71. This is one of the best songs I have ever heard, dealing with a concept mostly ignored by the church.[Ecclesiastes 12:13] Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.

    We're going to do this song Sunday, immediately flowing right into "Scatter" by Pat Barret. Definitely different, but when we played it in rehearsal, it was powerful! Can't wait for Sunday!

    Happy birthday, Ryland! 29 chiming in! The song itself definitely has that different vibe that breaks up what we typically fall into song wise, but I personally wouldn’t say that it’s the best for at least our congregation. At our church, we periodically do worship and prayer nights where we can have a little more leeway in the music, and I think a song like this would work well for that. But for a Sunday morning, especially for visitors that may already need to adjust to typical worship music that’s easier to follow, I think this would be a little much. I dig the vibe of the song though!

    Ryland, I love the song. Think it’s great, but congregational? No. I think I remember reading the Brooke even said she knows it’s not. It would work as a special item or something like that, but it would be very hard for a congregation to follow.

      Oh and I am not under 25. Sorry. But I don’t think that matters. Easy to sing is easy to sing. This is not.
      Still a banger of a song though.

      Agree with you and Brooke. Nice song though. And I’m 43

      I'm sure that's the case for your particular congregation:)

    32 here! Haha I have had this song on my personal playlist for a little while now. Love it!… but we will not be doing it during our time of congregational worship :) I love the vibe of the song and the music style, but I don’t think it’s very singable for a congregation.

    I love that this is supposedly an "acoustic" version! Yes to electric guitars and drum kits in acoustic versions! Don't let the keys gave all the fun.

    Hi Ryland really old guy here at 65! This song sounds fun to play and I too love the passion. However as a congregational worship song it has to get off my lawn😊 Melodic simplicity has been easier for our church to take ownership of new songs. Of course this could be a generational thing 😉

    The song does grow on me from a musical standpoint. Have no issues from there. It’s a very complex weaving of scriptures that don’t always go together. I’m trying to figure out the message being said here. Definitely don’t think it’s a bad song, but I don’t see it being a very singable song in a church setting. Again, I think I need a little explanation to help me understand what’s going on.

      In the video that discusses the story behind the song, she talks about being on the edge and wanting to hit someone. I take that to be the part about Satan roaming around like a roaring lion. The fear of God seems to be why she doesn't hit people. Then there's that part about the Lord returning. I'm not sure if she is talking about the judgement to come or whether she is think that we have to be good enough for salvation. Or maybe she just means that it won't be long, so she can hold out. It's really weird.

    Hey Ryland… 71 year old pastor. I actually love the song and her passion. For MY SBC Congregation in worship? No. Young people on a worship event… a? I’d be open to giving it a shot in right circumstances.

    Going to have to listen with the lyrics along with it. We don’t do songs with this much emotional variance, but I know someone who would nail this, that is Catherine Mullins. This is Rend Collective meets The Bangles. Both real good bands.

    This song feels very similar to Rattle from Elevation. The inflection at the end of each verse phrase especially

    To me it’s a song that would make me love the album, but I can’t imagine doing it congregationly. And I definitely get the Coloring Song vibe

    Can’t help but feel like its a copy of Rattle by Elevation worship

      I thought that halfway through the first verse. The b7 is overused by people trying to break out of the 1-5-6-4 mold and it’s a one trick pony.

    I'm just a few months ahead of you in age, Ryland. It's not so bad, lol. I like the song. I think it could be an alright congregational song but not one that everyone will want to sing. I got the Petra vibe right away, too. I like the beat and the vibe. I feel like it could be one that if you have a vocalist who can enunciate well so the congregation can easily follow along and the lyrics person is on top of having the words on the screen then people will enjoy it. People struggle the most with wanting to do a song when they struggle with learning the words the most. If they can't learn it in the first couple of play through, then they give up and have a negative association to it.

    The words kind of remind me of the 80's song "I Wish We'd All Been Ready." It's definitely not a congregational song. And after watching the video about the story behind it, I'm not sure that I would do it at all. She sounds abusive. It makes me wonder if this song is actually about domestic violence, rather than a Christian theme.

    Some musical context: take a listen to Larry Norman's "In Another Land" album (1976). Not everything there is a worship song, or is intended to be sung congregationally. This could be a similar song. Don't forget: if your living is making music, sometimes it feels like you're just feeding the machine.
    Think of DIY worship; is there creativity from the Holy Spirit? Something to think about--and sometimes certain things just don't really need comment or critique. God knows how to get an inspirational song out there. :)

    I'm gen z and I really like the song. It's really unique. Maybe it's not congregationally friendly but a lot of my favorite songs are like that anyways. 🤷‍♂

  • @mikebarber3801
    @mikebarber3801 8 месяцев назад

    Is it congregational? IDK, guess it depends on the context. Wouldn't work in my church. Not a bad song though!

  • @joshpetermann
    @joshpetermann 8 месяцев назад

    Nah, she didn’t write it to be sung in church… but there’s very little room for creativity in that space anyways.
    I’m glad she wrote it, and love how unique it sounds. It’s about time we have some fresh songs solely for listening to/enjoyment as Christians. K-Love needs to get off my church lawn. 😂

      She may not have written it for that purpose but "WorshipTogether" is promoting it as such. Free charts, lyrics and resources etc.

    Love the song, but I feel like it’s def not congregational. Could be used as a one off perhaps paired with a worship or praise dance special. Oh, and I’m 47 😊.
    Happy 40th Ryland!

    Strange pacing for sure.
