Notifications are on! I can't wait!
Seviper has a wider movepool and base 100 atk and spatk, but Arbok has a trick up its sleeve seviper doesn't: an egg move to handle brock and misty.
Seviper may get flamethrower, but Arbok gets Earthquake. Arbok will slide ahead early, Seviper will take the lead and hold it until round 2, and Arbok will clean up.
The REAL question is going to be the natures used. Arbok NEEDS speed, but he can't cut really any stat, save maybe defense because of intimidate and/or stockpile, while seviper will likely be able to cut his attack for extra speed because BASE 100.

On a side note haze solves intimidate leads like blaine and lance better than substitute does and it removes burn attack debuff and paralysis speed debuff too (which is niche but still good to know)

They're definitely moves that adult me is still relying on knowledge from kid me. "Does it do damage? Nah? Useless!". One run at a time I'll get better at this.

The only Fluctuating Pokemon I see being good would be Wailord and Crawdaunt for Round 2 League. Everyone else would not be that good, even Breloom and Hariyama due to the fact that Kanto has Alakazams everywhere.
Erratic Growth rate might be better in Fire Red and Leaf Green for Round 2 Elite Four. Would be better than in Emerald, since Brock isn't as problematic as Roxanne.

Eggcellent sir Eggcellent, although I gotta say that round 1 Seviper was nearly as bad as Shuckle and that is no small thing. the 120 resets, reaching level 100 and having to reset your HP to make it something usable, although that I can forgive. if you had used it as one type through the run and then changed just for the league, I'd call it cheating, but as it was for the R2 league alone, I'll say fair enough, you don't know with the R1 until you are actually trying it and running it. if not for the R2 Lance and Rival, I would sworn to Lord Helix that Seviper was gonna take the win, the stats and movepool all but suggested. it ran well in Sapphire, but I know Fire Red is a harder beast.
I haven't much to say on Arbok, you run it as I thought you would and you run it very well, I did think it would get a better level for the R2 finish but its stats let it down I guess and the levels were needed. the upgrade to HP rock was a surprise in R2 though, I would of thought you might stick to rock slide, but I guess the added power and accuracy was a must I guess. I think shed skin was good call for both of them as well, status is one of the single biggest pains in Gen 3 and shed skin just sort of cured that for both from start to finish, a shame you couldn't do the same about intimidate, that ability aline set you back way too much, both would of done so much better without having to deal with that.
I had a thought during the league. there is an item called a white herb, it cancels the negative stat drop for the holder once and is used and gone, imagine if you had one or even 2 for the league, no Gyrarados intimate from dance or from the Rivals Arcainine, every physical attacker would improve on the spot, must look into finding one for you in Fire Red, I think you find them easier in Gen 4 at least.
I am looking forward to seeing that SS stream on Tuesday, its going to be so good to see what your 1st run will be like, I will be voting for your starter, I shan't say here though. its going to be a rough start, but I think you'll get to grips with it in no time.
good news, I have finished grinding hitmonlee and shall be taking it through victory road now, its going to be good in there, plenty of good training for the team. I make a point of saving before battle so I may see what the opponents have and adjust my lead accordingly, very little grinding for the levels for the league will come after that, R2 should be over in no time

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

It was all about that R2 league honestly. Having to level so high is the only thing that killed Seviper otherwise I feel it would have won. Definitely not as tedious as Shuckle but it's another case where I eggspected more and that was what got to me. That stubbornness likely accounted for 60+ of those resets too. I'm glad you can forgive the cheat. I was so tempted to cheat again in the R2 Champ battle in that first playthrough but felt I'd already used all my life lines.
It's true that both would have done better without facing the Intimidates but that's why I forced so many on myself. With Zangoose I'm not doing that. I need to see a different Champ team and with SD it really doesn't matter as much. The higher PP of HP Rock was nice too, even though I didn't even really use it until R2 because I forgot about my PP Ups. I was tired :P
I think I went searching for a White Herb in FR but I couldn't find a location for one anywhere online. Most places that I checked led me to believe that there's no way to obtain one in FR/LG. That would be SO nice against some of those battles.
Concerning SS it's definitely going to be a slow and contemplated run. The point of the series as a whole is to learn the game after all so this weekend I'm pooling resources for leader teams, grass encounters, all of that good stuff. I feel no shame in staring at a leader's team and theorizing before attempting them. Because... you know.. learning! That with viewer feedback is going to be invaluable. I'm so pumped to start it. And terrified because it's live and I can't edit out of my !@#$ ups. Like.. a poor word choice against a gym leader or technical issues!
That's awesome that you're making such good progress in the run. That R2 league can be rough but it feels like your team has the diversity and options that you'll need.

@@Eggsceptional your stubbornness is admirable, it showed you had faith in the Pokemon you were running, except Shuckle, that was pure madness and we all know it. Seviper could of done so well if not for that R2, it just faced too many problems all at once to deal with properly, I think even with more moves to choose from it would of still struggled, it can attack and mix attack well, but its lack of bulk and speed was its downfall.
those Intimidates are too much, I am inclined to say if you faced a different rival team, Charizard or Blastoise, you might of come out better with both just for that reason alone, but than there is still no helping Lance of course. would you consider it cheating if you just happened to trade in a single white herb from Emerald in order to have one to use? the lack of it in Fire red and the number of Intimidates you come against seem unbalanced is all.
Zangoose will be very good, I think it will get to the S tier and maybe top it, a fast and powerful normal type with Swords Dance is now and always a strong combo to fear.
ah yes, the infamous bad language that can happen on a live stream, its hard to resist especially when things are going badly, you should hear the language I use sometimes for my runs, for Parasect I used every bad word you can think of, including moist. if I may suggest, use one I got from the TV series Bluey, just says "Biscuits" instead of C@%$ or F$%&, you don't want to get demonetized after all. I am looking forward to your 1st stream, I might get all of it as it starts at 10pm over here, but I'll be there for most of it and will try to help along the way. no reading my guide book to give you easy hints though lol.
the Rival and Agatha are my big concerns as my team is not very fast and weak to Psychic, which the ghosts and 2 of the rivals team will have and thats for R1 and R2, I think my team is ready for it though, I am literally about to cook and eat my dinner and then take on the R1 with Special Chan to test it and then the full team after. wish me luck

That Red fight will 100% be the same.
I could see why you enjoy Crobat over the Normal birds. It's always a question of coverage. Fury Cutter is equal parts concerning and interesting to conceptualize using. I hope that Farfetch'd could at least stand up long enough to stack up a few turns of it.
I'm trying to give the special Chan the benefit of the doubt but I just see pain pain pain with it. The max EV training would tilt the scales a lot though. Don't hold your breath on Castform it's a ways off yet!
It's true just like Exeggcutor I expected more out of Seviper. That R2 league was just SUCH a hard counter to us. The intimidates are so rough to work around. I'm not sure if adding a single White Herb would be worth it? There are a lot of fights with the intimidates and it would skew from all of my results up to this point. I like keeping it as "vanilla" as possible, considering the things I do edit.
Zangoose is a monster as a solo runner. No doubt. I want to try to stop swearing in general, or at least less, so this will be a good exercise for me. I have a better vocab than that! But, there are some occasions where there's nothing like calling something as it is. It'll take practice. No cheating! But I am keeping resources at the ready. We'll call it an open book test?
I hope the leagues went well!

@@Eggsceptional would it be possible to track your EV's by including it in your routing, on each run, I assume you have a rough idea about which trainers you are going to face and what vitamins you use could be planned around that. this is a theory that I might test for my solos, maybe one of the butterfree. I think once you have your overlay up and running, it should become easier to do all of this, the testing I suggest is effective, but slow and you are working against a timer after all.
thats a good way of doing it, you play your run and look back on it as you eit so you know what you need to be doing for the 2nd run. you're going to need to be ready for Red, he may open with a Pikachu, but it will be a nasty Pikachu trust me and I think it holds a light ball, so will hit hard.
Crobat is a personal favorite as well as being the best flyer for many runs. in Gen 3 it is a beast with fly, sludge bomb and shadow ball and it gets better after the physical/special split of Gen 4. you want to hear a weird but wonderful combo for it, curse and white herb, curse for the stat boost and white herb cancels the speed drop, its beautiful. Farfetch'd might be a surprise, I have never seen it in a solo for Gen 3, so might perform well, Fury Cutter is good if you can get it stack and a sword dance or 2 on top might be helpful, but its not the most accurate of moves so that may change you out a few times, I don't see it winning the VS, but definitely doing better than Pidgeot.
I hate to tell you but special Chan suffered a lot, Lorelei's team is very bulky and needed 2 and 3 hits, which are hard when you are frail and do not hit very hard, even with the hold items to boost. what it really needed were the Gen 4 boosting items. funny thing, it did ok against the rest of the league when I took it as part of the team, the rival was again a problem for it though, I will not list the resets, but there were a lot whenever there were any on a single leaguer.
thats fair enough with the white herbs, it was an idea, a last ditch effort like Shuckle I guess. I hate intimidates, unless you got a boosting move to counter it, it can rally mess up a physical attacker, all my physical using fighting types have 1 for just that reason, an admixture of meditate, bulk up and sword dances, when you start running teams, you can at least make use of switch battling or special attackers in order to get around that at least. Seviper in theory could of done so well, but thats the problem with theory, you gotta prove its right 1st.
Zangoose is the beast of the 200 as it was known and will do so well. the 200 were the original Pokedex of Ruby and Sapphire, before Fire Red and Emerald, that 200 was all you had to work with and it was a monster in that format and I suspect will definitely be in Fire Red. saying that, I think I said the same of seviper so I wish you luck.
the league went well, I got through it and the post game with no issue, I am now EV training my Heracross ready for the R2, should be done before I go bed tonight, then its just a matter of catching the legendaries, trading it all to my main cartridge and I can get started on which Butterfree comes 1st. wish me luck
UPDATE: I have caught 5 caterpie, traded them to another game, evolved them and tested for HP. I have Dark, ice, rock, fire and the last is either steel or dragon as it hits everything neutral. I cannot decide which to do 1st, the fire or the ice, could you choose which 1 I use, I have a feeling you'll say ice

@@jptheflipper3825 I have considered it because the resources do exist to spreadsheet everything that I need to know for a run, including the trainers I typically face. It's just a time investment thing again. I spent the weekend much more focused on prepping Tuesday's stream and trying to get my production ahead again. I'm hoping that with GameHook I can set it up in some basic way in the interim. It's all resources I plan on building.
I'm pretty sure you're correct about Red's Pikachu with the LB. I have no doubt that's going to be one doozy of a battle.
I don't know there's a decent chance of some Return/Aerial Ace/HP Rock possibly combo with SD and Sub? Safeguard even? Those set up moves are wicked strong, even on Farfetch'd. Pidgeot will underwhelm me again I know it will. But I'm hopeful in Gen 4 it gets marginally better. Where I'm hoping things like White Herbs are also more common for more fun strategies.
Very true. I feel like there will eventually be a snake team challenge of some kind. Arbok/Seviper/Gyarados/Onix/Steelix kind of thing as team members. That will be the opportunity to explore things like that.
Oh no way, Zangoose with early SD is ridiculous. I, as usual, had my share of mistakes in the first run but that's just.. me! It's been a nice break after a bunch of more challenging runs.
Do you have a gigantic collection of legendaries on your main cartridge? Or are you just fishing for better ones (natures/IVs)? Am I that predictable in regards to which Butterfree to run? Of course Ice :) But I would assume you'd go for Fire first.

So I'll post this before watching and edit after...I'm hoping for Seviper, something about the snake with a poison tail really gets me. But I'm thinking Arbok because it has more speed and that is just always the most important stat.
Edit: I was a bit to kind to Seviper I see, but still I feel like Speed was a big pain for this snake, every extra hit was just brutal. But I am happy to see HP Electric get some shine.

HP Electric was definitely not the first one that I tried. I'm happy it ended up being the choice because I use it so rarely. That R2 league was rough and Arbok's more "all-rounder" kind of feel gave him such an easier time. Poor Seviper. So strong, but not against teams of Earthquakes.

Pre-watch: Arbok wins. It has more bulk, speed, and a much better growth rate. It's only barely worse in terms of attack, and Seviper's superior SpA wouldn't even help much because it's just too slow and frail to hit first or not get destroyed when it fails to.
    PS. Called it.
24:44 It's not THAT lucky. The chances of Sleep Powder hitting without activating Shed Skin are 3/4 * 2/3 = 1/2, so congrats, you won a coin toss.
