It's on par with the requirements of a Raspberry Pi, and this also has a screen and a set of speakers to power up. I kinda get the idea not to supply a PSU. You need to take into account all various socket types in different countries, current and frequency. You can buy one that fits in your wall at your closest supermarket. And many people already have fast chargers for their phones with high enough specs.

I have already seen this on RUclips running retroarch. If this becomes widely available via sd(surely it will). This thing will be incredible. I was interested in sega astro mini too but the lack of hacking so far and smaller 16:9 screen put me off. The new vertical one seems better though

I really wanted Taito Egret, it’s a nice mini arcade package but held off due to cost. Thought about just the unit itself but ultimately wanted all pieces but too expensive. I have the Sega Astro Mini & NeoGeo mini Christmas Edition which gets the most play. That Sega Astro V really got my attention so funds for Taito Egret got redirected to that. Ty for you’re updating on this, very informative.

I actually bought this for my 8 year old daughter. She is going to be able to utilize one of her all pink dual Hello Kitty monitors vertically with it! Haha. She absolutely loves playing trackball games also. We are hoping one day there will be a way to add more games than what’s included. Will she like the games compared to the Switch? Hell no! It’s just another way for her to play a quick game or two. She will probably use it like she uses the Mario bros Game and watch. I can definitely see it not being for very many people though.

What, with the Atari 2600 going for about 800+ adjusted for inflation or the comparatively tame NES at 400$+ on release, as well as being the generation that had the intellivision that would go for past 1,000$ today. But it's not like things are today, where a console that's complete in box with a number of digital peripherals and completely unique miniature design featuring screen swapping and includes 40 games is sold from about 260-450$ depending on the amount of things bought for it.

As far as why it costs $200. I think most of the manufacturing costs goes into the rotating screen. I imagine a lot of effort went into tooling and design to make sure the screen moved and functioned just right. Otherwise I don't see much of a difference between this and the Astro City mini. If I had extra money, I wouldn't mind having one of these and a paddle controller. It reminds me of the paddle controller attachment for the DS that I imported from Japan back in the day.

I got mine on sale for $150 and had the same problem with the USB power brick because my USB power supply is actually high spec enough, but the handshake for the power supply wasn't working with the device so it only gave it 5V1A which is way too low. So I got my Pi4 USB brick 5.1V 3A and now it works great. I can't agree more, they should have shipped the unit with the power brick because the Pi USB brick was only $5 so in that price range to cheap on something so low to get the units back because of the "faulty units" just because of the issues with the USB bricks are hilarious

These things are all about the cool toy factor and not the games themselves. You can literally play all these games for free on MAME if that's all you're interested in. As a cool toy, it's a pretty kickass device. BTW, the early units that went out to RUclipsrs didn't have the sticker on the bottom and there was no mention of the power requirements anywhere. I used a 2amp 5V supply and it seemed to work fine, and my unit says 5V 2A on the bottom. I did notice a bit of lag when using my Astro City stick, assumed it was just how the SBC was handling usb, but I guess the 2.4Amps on the box accounts for peripherals and the 2Amps on the bottom doesn't. Should have checked the box! I'll give it a try with a higher wattage power supply and see if the lag when using a stick is reduced. Still really like it, the rotating screen is cool, but I think its value is just in being a neat way to play these games, if you aren't into the games and the form factor it's definitley going to be a waste of money for you. I like having it on my desk to play a little bit of Tatsujin during breaks at work. Looking forward ot the Astro city V.

I want it bad just so I can play Arkanoid PROPERLY ,like I used to do in the arcades in the 90s ,with a SPINNER ! (special controller which has 10 extra games including Arkanoid !) It's nigh IMPOSSIBLE to play it without a spinner ! Plus the system is cheaper on Amazon, not that other ripoff site , and I can't be bothered with emulators and how would I use a spinner with them anyway , right ? Exactly .

Retrogaming was not a waste of money when it was a niche hobby and plenty of stock. Until SNS and their stupid hipsters followers, most were not even born when these games got released, followed the trend.
As a result, prices are now insane, all the retroshop in Tokyo got raided and the hobby is now a waste of money and time.
70000Yen for Neogeo in good shape when I got my capcom minicute almost brand new back in 2008 for half of that price.
    StreetFighter2 Turbo PCB was 6000Yen.
The best option now, is getting MiSTer FPGA and call it a day, if you can find one, since they got raided too.

These are just novelty items for the 'collectards' to display on their shelves and social media. The ridiculously small form factor, the limited selection of games and stupidly high prices are reflective of a 'novelty' or 'collectible' items. There are better emulation devices FWIW.

Maybe people should read the instructions as it clearly states what the power requirements are for it even if you can't read japanese they are still able to be figured out. Always seems to be americans bitching about everything not having a usb brick included. Just cough up the money and buy one decent one to power everything you own and if you can't afford one then you should really be rethinking why you are buying expensive novelties if money is that tight.
