You don’t need ANY snacks. It’s a habit you’ve learned. Don’t have them in the house or car or bag either. If you feel you fancy a snack have a big drink of water or go for a walk or brush your teeth. I know you didn’t ask for advice and always tend to do the opposite anyway but hearing you have a SNACK DRAWER! was such a head slap moment. You are clearly such an intelligent woman which makes it so hard to understand.

I’ve had a chocolate, sweets and crisp addiction so when I went on my fat loss journey I stopped consuming them. No skinny bars, no small pk of air filled crisp snacks, not one sweet has passed my mouth in over a year now. It took me three months before I stopped thinking and craving. I eat real food now and keep away from anything that says ‘low fat’ or anything that has artificial sweeteners in. I have three meals a day and fruit in between
Sugar is as addictive as cocaine and it you can’t control eating these things it’s best to go cold Turkey because the cravings will eventually go. There’s no nutrition in this junk and you’re be doing yourself a favour 😊

There's a great saying - "I feel how I feel because I do what I do." Take action to address how you're feeling, rather than waiting/relying on feeling good and motivated, to make progress.

Carla, you are an intelligent woman. We all have emotions that can drive us to food or drink or drugs and use that as an excuse to binge. Get rid of the snack draw and get back to reading. Your community is with you and wishing you success but you do not help yourself one iota. Get a grip stop messing around or pack it in. You are wasting time.

So this weeks big idea to overcome decades of food addiction is to move the snacks from the bedroom to the kitchen.......100% that wont work........as difficult as it is for you not buying them in the first place is the real answer.

      @CarlaJenkins  Месяц назад +2

Except it's not. Because I tried that. What happens then is I go OUT to get something and end up buying MULTIPLE items because I can't choose, and then I eat them all.

I do the same thing. Just had 6 crackers and a pile of yoghurt and strawberries sitting in bed watching TV. It's the cosy secretive munching that sabotages the good intentions. Just leave those Twixes under the bed next time and l will stick with bananas. Happy Thursday xxxx

Read "Ultra Processed People" by Chris Van Tulleken. He explains how all the stuff in our food makes us 'emotionally eat' and how we can change things.

    • @KarenG.-qs7wc
      @KarenG.-qs7wc Месяц назад +9

Yes. I read that book and it changed my whole attitude to food. I never buy anything processed now as everything contains the toxic rapeseed oil including bread! I make my own bread now when I fancy it and always read labels to stay away from those deadly ingredients. As for xanthan gum...yuk! When I found out what that was I felt sick - bleached vegetable slime rot ! It's in so many things.
Supermarket loaves are not real food, full of toxic additives and so are biscuits, cakes, ice-cream etc. Avoiding all those poisons now since reading thst book and I have lost a lot of weight as a result.

Everyone is different Carla. I started listening to Slimpod in January (although I signed up to it the Jamuary before) and actually stuck with it. I also adopted the behaviours of someone who is already slimmer. I'm over 60 now so anyone who is slimmer , it's not by accident. For the first time in my life I have a positive attitude about my weight. I'm now 35lbs down, but I only weigh myself once every 2-3 weeks. I'm absolutely NOT on a diet. I just think about what is healthier for me. I'm now retired and so am having lunches out etc, but go for better choices. Sometimes I have a dessert, maybe once a fortnight, but it's the exception, not the rule. I've been dieting since I was 11 and this is the first time I feel any sort of control. Perhaps the weekly weigh-in is reinforcing the "diet" mentality in your head, which for me, always drove me to eat/crave more of the stuff I didn't need. I know you are going along the accountability route, but I wonder if this is the best option. I tried it many times, using friends and colleagues as witnesses, but it made my sense of shame about my weight much worse and then I ate more to cope with that feeling. I'm absolutely not saying this is how you feel, because I want nothing but the best for you and for you to feel comfortable and content. It's just a thought. 😊

Carla, sweets and chocolates, crisps and fast foods. Totally boycotted them. Totally made up my mind, either get on plan or give the heck up on January 1st! I literally told my sister I am going to get groceries delivered, not eating out because I’ll find my way back into those fast food places. Florida has too many ways of really doing yourself in. My weight was 261.8 lbs. I last weighed in on Monday, this week. It’s 227.4 lbs. I still will not buy sweets, junk food like chocolates, crisps and no fast foods. I fouled up on all of February and half of March as I had previously told you. No one was more addicted to these foods than me. I do poorly on Calories. The US has no SW Groups so accomplishing this online. If I want something sweet, I eat some fruit, eat a sweet potato. I’m more stubborn than those lab created sweets. I don’t any longer blame myself at all for bad eating. Instead, I have the handbook, I have the lists of foods. I don’t go to Buffets. There are only a few restaurants where I can eat and lose weight and I don’t go out often. When you can get delivery, you can only order healthy and sensible groceries. You have to want to change your health, looks and frankly, your dress size. It’s more uplifting to lose the weight than a Twix or caramel, trust me! My blood pressure is a problem, had to go on meds. I randomly took it, 116/76. I checked my blood sugar randomly before dinner, it was 120. I’m on no Diabetes meds. Weight loss with a new focus. Be stubborn and be kind to yourself.

for me i don't eat after my evening meal (that can be any time from 7pm-8pm), i will have decaf coffee or tea, and then breakfast is usually 11am-12pm, gives my blood sugar time to settle back down (i'm not diabetic but letting your body rest between meals is very good for you), i don't buy in snacks to have in the cupboard, for that road leads to ruin! i do have a treat day where i buy in only enough for that day (big bag if jellybeans and a big sharing bag of crisps is the usual, but i also skip lunch on that day) this gives me something to look forward to, but i do find having the refined sugar does affect me mentally, makes me snarky and agitated. i'm also pretty low carb with my meals (not counting the snack day) breakfast - 2 slices hovis granary wholemeal toast with margarine and cheese, lunch - a round of sandwiches with marg ham, tomato, lettuce mustard and an apple, and for dinner chicken breast or pork chop or sausages or burger done in the airfryer and a big salad (or 2 hash browns from the freezer that i'm trying to use up along with a frozen veg) this way works for me, mindless eating is the worst thing for anyone trying to lose weight, and that's why i don't bring those temptations into the house, so i think i'm around 1200-1400 calories a day, 6 days a week, lost 5lbs last month, around 1.5 stone in total since starting feb/march (i only weigh once a month), and i'm happy with that

Don't bin it. Maybe, when you buy these things, could you donate them to a food bank. ? This will, (maybe, ?? ) help with your 'negative feelings of self' that led to you buying them....just a thought. I've experienced the same as you, weight wise, and I've felt MUCH self hatred over the years. I needed to deal with those inner issues before I could start to eat in a healthier way. Well done, because you're exploring your reasons for buying the chocolate x Best wishes on this journey

Hi Carla, I'm glad you're back to trying to crush those calories! It wasn't a gain, so that's good news. You're an intelligent woman, that's why I like watching you. You recognise your issues with food and emotional eating, so I'd like to ask you: Have you ever or would you, seek out therapy to learn the tools to help you improve your situation? I'm a chocoholic, seriously, but 17 choccy bars in a week!? An addiction is an addiction, no matter what it is. I feel like you could really benefit from some type of counselling - not a dietitian. Good idea to lose the snack drawer, and make a no eating in your bedroom rule. I know you don't want to hear it, but that pepsi max has got to go! Also, diet pop makes your body hold onto fat and not want to let it go, so drinking it just makes you have to work harder to lose it and keep it off. It's counter-productive. As you know, you're fighting yourself. I want to see you win! Please, don't be mad or discouraged, we really are cheering for you!

I'm an evening picker too. As soon as we've had dinner, it's as if a switch is turned on and I'm away. I'm the heaviest I've even been and so fed up with it. I buy clothes that sort of fit, instead of clothes that I really like. I feel drab. I look at everyone else and think I'm bigger than them. I don't go out walking or to gyms, as I have social anxiety. I know no-one can do it for me, but it's so hard to get motivated to do the right thing. I can't even do exercise at home that involves moving about as I'm in an upstairs flat and the floors creak with every step! Anyone got a magic wand?

    Hi Carla
Creating better habits is a small thing that works for weight loss.
I will always have choc bics crisps in but i have them in another room where u have to go & not easy to reach. If i want them most days its planned so cant eat mindlessly. Although i can still troff at times i just dont do it as much when the stuff was in easy reach.
I got this tip from tv a few years ago. I watch the Zoe channel & hearing that the dr & prof who were slim also have to do the same thing made me feel better for some reason.
If you have a cut off & start time of at least 12 hours when u eat this will help give ur stomach a rest & u get some control back over food.
Finally at meal times fill up on protein fibre & fats they really do stop the cravings to eat between meals & maybe have proper choc or treats that u can fit in ur calories.
These are things that have worked for me & they really help so thought id share as ur struggles have help me🙏🏽

After a really bad dose of Covid I lost my lifetime "sweet tooth". Obviously, that's not to be recommended 😂. My love of cheese is my downfall, especially living in France.....! I'm always hungry at night, because i have terrible insomnia. Instead of my giant , nightly cheese butties AND crisps 😢😮, I now make a large salad, with a little grated cheese and a boiled egg ( protein's essential for weight loss) and I put it in a tupperware box in the fridge. I eat this if im hungry at night, And I'm shocked to find I'm sleeping better AND losing weight..... sometimes I dont even eat it at night, so have it for the next days lunch. Weight loss is hard for us all. A bummer that its so easy to put it on, often unnoticed, yet hard to lose 😢 Trial and error, and just restarting the HEALTHY EATING .(lose the diets, folks), if we have a blip.... that's what i try to do. Sometimes i win, sometimes i lose 🤷None of us deserves to hate ourselves, We all are beautiful, and worthy of self love, at the end of the day x

I did this, and it's torturous and frustrating. I initially gained weight because I was on Medical Steroid Therapy. The side effects are awful , and include BIG weight gains. My mother took photos of me, without my knowing, at my biggest and sent them to the whole family. They then all mocked me, calling me a "big ,fat, lazy b*****d". (Now, I'm several stone lighter , for having cut them ALL from my life 😂) I stopped treatment, and realised I'd gained from a size 16 (UK) to 28. It slowly went. Now I'm size 18, but don't weigh myself because I have a history of Anorexia Nervosa . I'm eating better, but found ( for me) the key is increasing water consumption. This helps weight loss hugely. Maybe you could try that? Just a suggestion, to try to help. Good Luck.

Morning Carla, you have been lucky not to put any thing on this week like you said your a cake eater and no that is your falling think it may be that you should have that slice of cake just a slice lol then you may not eat the sweet things to compensate for not having the cake I'm addicted to chocolate so can not have it in the house in any form even the skinny bars as I can not just have one bar IV seen me eat the lot in one go,at the moment I'm in the fast of pound 2lb on take it off then the next week it's back on and I'm not over my calories so I don't no I'm going to try to eat more veg this week see if that helps me keep going that's all we can do ❤😊x

I would eat the whole box of Twix in a few days if they were in my house (well, if I could eat gluten that is) it’s just too tempting when they are there. I would be thinking Ima, bound to eat them anyway in the end, so what’s the difference? We trick ourselves quite easily when our willpower is low! I would suggest buying chocolate bars singley 1 per day so if you want a second one you have to walk to the local shop to get it. That way the effort may put you off, or the price of 80p-£1 a bar?
I am terrible for snacking at night when I am sat in bed reading, it feels like a treat. I think for me the trick may be to not sit down when I come in from work but get on with housework or something else I always put off doing, for a few hours, instead of deciding I ‘deserve’ a rest and a munch on crisps and chocolate and whatever else I can get my hands on
Well Done trying to break the habit though - hopefully it will work for you. No more bulk buying chocolate though as that’s just too tempting or tortureous!

Well done on the maintain. Perhaps you didn’t gain because you were still in calories? Just because you ate the choc doesn’t mean you over ate calorie wise. I have been hungry and snacky this week and I think if I had that box I would have eaten them all at once! I am trying hard to not think of foods as good and bad and if I want a snack I will have one. I would move the snacks as at least then you get extra steps in getting them 😂

The part of you that helped you to stick with it , before. Dont feel bad.! We've all experienced the ' eating things we shouldnt,' then the self recrimination that makes us eat more of it! I prefer to think 'all things in moderation ', NOBODY here will be judging you. So , maybe think of ONE thing, thats going to be so wonderful in your life, when youve lost 7lb. And a none food related treat , you can give yourself , after every 7lb .lost? Bite sized challenges. YOU'VE GOT THIS !

If only it was as simple as ‘don’t buy it, don’t eat it’ we would all be at our ideal weight. I think people who don’t have this kind of issue with food simply wouldn’t understand and therefore get frustrated…. That’s me being kind. Your idea of moving your snacks is an excellent one, I think they are too conveniently situated and probably call you from the drawer. You must have done something right to have maintained this week so just put it behind you, don’t let the negativity get to you and simply plod on. ❤x

@@minovin And then you learn nothing about control. Out of control eating is not about one food stuff, if you are not in control you will eat foods you don’t even particularly like. What most of us are striving for is mindful eating. Food addiction is the one and only addiction where you have to partake in the source of the problem or you will die. It’s very complex and not as simple or as easy as you state it is.

@@minovin You’ve not grasped my reply at all. Sometimes these things aren’t so simple as black and white. I didn’t eat sugar for over a year and it did nothing for my relationship with food…. I ate cheese instead. Of course if they weren’t there you can’t eat them, however, when that monster is in your head you would just eat something else instead. Having food stuff in your house and not over indulging is the ultimate control and is the healthy relationship with food that most of us are striving for.

@@minovin At no point has it been stated that buying the twix was a fabulous idea, but again my points are just going over your head. @@minovin You are correct losing weight isn’t complicated but, depending on the individual, it can be very complex. For some people you remove one thing and it’s replaced by something else, sometimes even food stuffs that you don’t particularly like… So not so simple as just don’t buy it, just don’t eat it, that statement sound very blasé and obviously for someone with a healthier relationship with food it probably is that easy. But, for others those comments can have a detrimental effect. Everyone, including Carla, knows buying those snacks and having easy access to them was a bad move and Carla has stated her plans to curb this snacking. As to whether she should cut sugar out completely, it’s a tough one, didn’t help me and where do you draw the line because carbs and fruit can trigger as well.

    • @helenbull8101

@@minovin I didn’t say it’s better to buy them if you struggle with moderation. I honestly think it’s difficult to understand unless it’s the road you’ve travelled, the psychology around it is very complex. What I do know is that if items are purchased they would be purchased with good intentions of moderation in mind, sometimes that works out and other times not. Equally Im sure there are times that purchases are thought twice about and declined.
I know you are not the only one, I think it was the use of the word ‘simple’ that made me respond. Anyway, we will move on as there’s no point in either of us keep banging the same drum.

If only it was that easy for the rest of us mere mortals. It's a wonder there are any overweight/alcoholic/drug addicted people in the world when all they need to do is tell themselves 'no' and not to buy the offending substance. Why have they been keeping this secret to themselves all this time? Ffs.
