    Cheat days keep me sane. I lost 40 pounds in 8 months while STILL having a couple cheat meals here and there. I ate a regular thanksgiving dinner last year and hopped back into keto the very next morning and didn't gain aside from some water weight that subsided after a couple days. You're so adorable.

      Been on Keto a month (today is 10/27). Have decided my first "cheat" will be Thanksgiving. I can easily pass on the stuffing and pie...so I will...but I want my scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy!

    I have absolutely no clue how you have "zero friends." You seem like such a happy and positive person. Those people are missing out! Good luck with the rest of your semester and Happy "early" Birthday! Your videos have helped me so much with KETO, so keep 'em coming girl! ;-) Although I do feel like I'm going to start saying "oh my golly" soon!!!! LOL!

    Make a new rule - no one gets to fuss at you unless they have the ability and self discipline to flip their entire body repeatedly in the air....and then video tape it for RUclips.

    Love the comments on cheats! It shows how keto adjusts to fit each person's body just right for them. I have found that after a few months of keto, my body has healed and many of the cravings are gone. And it has really been beneficial to help separate social/emotional eating from nutritional eating. My daughter is getting married in a month and I'm not going to worry about keto that day. Not because I "crave" all sorts of forbidden foods, but because the focus that day is celebrating this new part of our family life. Keto feels good and I will be able to jump right back to it. Keto means food freedom!

      +April Eaton That's an awesome point April! Sometimes you just live and enjoy life, and that sometimes means eating a few extra carbs, in the long run one day isn't going to hinder you for the rest of your life

    I know school is stressful and I'm so glad to be done! I actually just had my first cheat meal yesterday since being on Keto and I think it's totally worth it! Having one meal a month where you don't have to count macros is refreshing!

    Totally agree 100% with your philosophy Katherine. Yes Keto is great, but sometimes life happens (eg It was my little girls birthday last week and of course I was going to have a bit of her birthday cake lol) big events happen and we need a break from the "diet" mentality. Like you said, as long as it is planned and you get back on track, it's all good. By the way, I think you're doing great and so committed to your studies and diet. I'm 43 and wish I was as dedicated as you at your age - keep up the good work, it all pays off in the end! :)

      I think the same thing too... I wasted so much of my children's youth being overweight. Thankfully KETO saved me and nothing will take me back. Happy B-Day to your baby girl.

    Greetings from Channelview! I agree that a "cheat day" or "refeed day" is needed every 3 to 4 weeks. It has helped me out tremendously getting that glycogen back on my keto (both physically and mentally). I haven't had a refeed for 2 months because I haven't craved anything and I'm still dropping weight every week. I would recommend you not do it, if you are not craving. However, if you are at a plateau in your weight loss, then definitely do it. Good luck on your journey!

    I just had not even a cheat day just a cheat meal... hmm more of a cheat dessert lol i was craving ice cream with resses cups i think cause that time of the month is coming up. I feel so guilty but it just motivated me to go even harder with my diet and bounce back and get into ketosis again and keep losing weight

    Exactly! If one cheat day a month will help you sustain 353 days of keto then certainly do it. It will definitely make holidays more enjoyable when family/friends have all that horrible yet tasty carb-laden food lying around.

      Teresa Allford I didn’t either, it’s especially normal in a community college setting where you only see your classmates during class (not at a dorm or party or anything like that) and then you’ll probably rarely end up in another class with them at some point. University’s are more focused on the social and connections aspect and community college people are just more focused on getting the degree and getting the heck out of there lol

    I agree with you, my son in law calls me a "carb nazi" LOL but I don't think I am. For example I make a low carb meal with meat and veggies, enough for 2 meals for 2 people, well he will eat the two servings at one meal he thinks because it's low carb it's ok. Some mornings I have a hash brown with my bacon only maybe twice a week. I'm also going to Italy at the end of April, never been before and plan on trying the cuisine and wines. I'm not planning on going overboard with carbs and desserts but will try stuff. I know I will have work to do when I get home.

    Totally agree! Everyone needs a cheat day....I probably do one monthly, so I can get my popcorn fix! I just watched a video by Dr Eric Berg and he said a good alternative for popcorn is a grain called sorghum. I can't find the carb info on it anywhere, but it's supposed to be very low glycemic. Has anyone tried this grain? You pop it just like popcorn in coconut oil and can even top with KerryGold butter as a treat. It might be a good alternative for a cheat day if you miss popcorn. Happy pre-birthday and enjoy your lemon blueberry cake 😄

    I completely agree with you on cheat days. It's entirely up to the individual. I'm on day 23 of my Keto journey and I've not had a cheat day yet. I'm in no rush to have one either as I'm enjoying getting to know my body and be in control. I'm in recovery from an ED and I'm being kind to myself. I kinda like how your videos pop up with the information I need at that time. I think you're bloody Brilliant!xxx

    I am currently on Ideal Protein (low carb, low fat), but researching Keto to continue after I reach my next major goal (or before). You are my favorite! Maybe not the person with the most nutritional education, etc., but I love your personality. I have three boys in college and I also live in the Houston area, so I feel like I can relate to you even though I'm old enough to be your mom. Plan and celebrate at Dessert Gallery and enjoy! That has always been our go to for my guys' birthday (they're triplets). Give Beau a squeeze, he reminds me of my college dog, Andre, a black Cocker just like him. Also, how do YOU have zero friends in CS? Not possible. So stinkin' cute. Keep up the great work!

    I also have found if I have a carb heavy meal when I am out of now and need to eat that it can actually jump start me back to losing again. I am also very careful about that being my only carb heavy meal for a very long time.

    I’m 13 yrs old and I have lost about 50 pounds on keto and since I’m smaller and my metabolism is faster than older people I have a cheat meal every week either one or two times and I end up dropping even more weight than I expect but it doesn’t work for everyone I guess much love kat 💞

    I totally agree about the cheat day once in a while. Well, I don't have a cheat day...I have a cheat meal. It also helps get my weight loss restarted when it stalls. I probably have one about every 2 weeks to a month. I just don't go overboard with it. I think it's beneficial.

    Ugh I've been addicted to sparkling water the past few weeks. It's been pretty warm here in Georgia, except for yesterday and today..we had a severe cold front move through with tornados, an earthquake and snow all in a 24 hour period! But I got side tracked....anyways yes the sparkling water his the spot on these mid 80s days! I've been enjoying the la croix grapefruit one with just a touch of my liquid stevia...so good.

    i do one planned every 4 or 5 weeks..
    partially to satiate cravings and partially as a psychological thing.. it gives me something to look forward to and all month long when I want something i say" ill have it on my cheat day"
    when my cheat day comes around i wind up just going for pizza our Chinese food or sushi.. lol

    I try to only do one cheat meal instead of a whole day because once I get a taste of sugar I just fall off and it's so hard for me to get back on. I just started my keto diet again a couple days ago (today is my third day). Let's see how it goes.

    Ditto! love your videos, I agree with you on the cheat days...but also wanted to mention something I have been hearing about especially for WOMEN who do keto, and that is CARB cycling, and how we need carbs especially for our hormone balance, it isnt a license to eat cake...LOL but it does explain the importance of some healthy carbohydrate intake at specific times, I think it also can help if weight loss becomes an issue on long term keto...has to do with resetting grehlin, etc. you can google it and there are some good vids on youtube about it...cant think of the girl but sure you can find some good info if you haven't already researched it! Good luck!

    I totally agree with you, Kat, about cheat days. Sometimes you just want to eat some carbs. When I do eat more carbs, I go out of ketosis for just a few hours and then I am back in. I actually am researching carb nights, I think I simply need more carbs from time to time. I cannot fall sleep and the Keto flashes at night wake me once I finally fall asleep. I guess the rule is to eat additional carbs after 6 pm, and when you wake up you go right back to Keto eating. Interesting, huh? My girlfriend has been doing having a carb night once a week for months and she has lost almost 70 pounds!

      I'm really interested in the carb night once a week. That is awesome that your friend has still lost weight doing that. Can you tell me more about how many carbs she allows herself on those nights or does she just eat whatever she wants?

      She goes as "naughty" as she wants. Pizza, wine, dessert, .... until full. That is the key... until full. And then back to Keto in the morning. I found some good research from the Healthful Pursuit You Tube channel. I think eating more carbs at night may actually help me sleep too! Check it out.

    I hope you young people are right about this keto stuff. I've been at it for two weeks so far and almost had a heart attack looking into my shopping cart this afternoon. The checkout girl looked at all of it and said, "Nice knowing you." Great. Anyway, that girl Leanne Vogel from Healthful Pursuit shared some information on "carb loading" on a video called "Keto: are you too low carb?" You and she are my two Keto Goddesses. Have a nice weekend sweetheart, and don't study too much. It's not good for you.

      Ya know, you're a very funny young woman and I really enjoy your humor and videos. My entire family is concerned about the new way I'm eating. Yesterday was two weeks, and I finally hopped on the scale. I've lost 13 pounds and I feel really good. I've got to give a lot of credit to the kind people like yourself, who have shared so much of the information I studied for a couple of weeks before even considering such a radical new way to eat.     I was doing very good on Keto. I lost almost 30 pounds. Then I had a cheat day, which lead into a cheat month and a half. I am miserable, gained back most of my weight and am having trouble getting back on the wagon. Any suggestions to help me get back into gear?

      Missy Stephens this happened to me too. It's been nearly a year since I've been in Ketosis. I do really well then fall off the wagon again again and again. 70 pounds lost, 50 gained back. I feel horrible :(

    hi do you not ever do some crossfit type of training I did it and the weight fell off over months even some high intensity rowing then some push press with weighs

    You look amazing!! I can tell you are a fat burner and not a carb burner from your eyes... be careful if you eat cake and you break out of ketosis, notice how your eyes change....

      Ya, Fat burners look different than carb burners because we are different!! In other words we get energy from fat not carbs and so our physiology works different. Notice at the end of her video how her eyes look "sleepy" but its not a "tired sleepy" its a relaxed state. When you are on carbs your eyes open really wide. It's hard to explain but think about a high fashion model who takes pictures, you know when they squint with their eyes without getting wrinkles.... its because they are fat burners....
      i know my display pic is really small, but if you could see it better my eyes look 'sleepy'

    Whoop! Gig'em Aggies! I love College Station. My blood is maroon! You are so cute! I love your attitude. I've been doing keto since January 23, 2017 and it's been a very slow process. My body has taken a long time to adjust itself to all of the damage I have done to it in last 62 years. But I feel great and feel the healing has been from the inside out. I have noticed that on a day that I may intentionally or not had more carbs or outside of "keto" when it's been a while, it kinda jump starts the weight loss again. This woe is a continual learning process and there are soooooooo many thoughts, ideas, and guides that say so many different things. It makes it hard. I say, learn the basics and learn your body and do what's best for you!!

    does it really matter how much you eat on keto when you're trying to maintain a weight? I tried maintain the weight of 126 but i had a hard time. Do you just have to eat keto forever in order to keep the weight off?

      Really depends on the person. You can try to transition back to a higher carb diet and see what happens

      Okay thanks for answering. I enjoy the keto diet but i've just seen things about not being able to keep the weight off eating keto if you don't eventually introduce sugars and starch.

    I’ve lost 70lbs in 6 months (from 240 to 170 and still going) and over half of that was in the 1st 3 months.
    Just some quick advice on cheating (what worked for me).
    1. Don’t cheat until you have been on the diet for at least 8 weeks (I waited about 14), this is very important, and you can find more info from some videos including those from a doctor.
    2. Take a carb blocker (white kidney bean extract) immediately before, during, and after the cheat meal. *I’m not going to suggest a brand, just choose something of good quality.
    3. Fast for the entire following the cheat day (I’d suggest a day when you are off work and have no plans to fast).
    4. Don’t cheat more than every 10 days, and don’t cheat over and over again (every 10 days repeatedly).
    This is what I’ve done, and on the weeks that I’ve cheated, I’ve lost more than I did on non-cheat weeks.
    Also FYI, diet soda (or other carb free drinks) helps allot on fasting days. It fills you up, and the caffeine helps too.
