Appreciate the honest review, I want to leave a comment primarily for the viewers though. You bought a felling axe. The entire forest line of axes are made for felling. If that isn't what you wanted I understand, but Gransfors has a very clear description of which line of axes are for what and this particular profile is not made for splitting. I understand it doesn't work for you but you're complaint is that it doesn't do something it wasn't made to. not hating, I just don't want to see people shy away from a great company because the product in question doesn't do a task it wasn't made for.
These are some of the best money can buy. I use gb axes almost daily and have never had a problem. I have done everything from building deer blinds to processing firewood.
I have a SFA and i love it! Just ordered the scandi. Looks like a love it or hate it. We’ll see!!! I backpack a lot so that’s where the gransfors get me
very good points, subscribed...my love for gransfors is only exceeded by my sorrow that wetterlings has been absorbed. i have both and still await my scandinavian forest axe ordered about six months ago. as beautiful as they are, in a real user situation sticking does indicate to me the design probably doesn't fit the medium, but isn't that the way it can be sometimes?
yeah, but even that's a relative statement depending on a person's use and preferences. You cant always be dragging around the exact right tool for the job, because you dont always know. .Its nice to have versatility, because we aren't always 20ft from the truck, and certainly arent carrying around a bunch of specialty tools. Wranglerstar (who I am a total fan of) would say that if he could ONLY HAVE ONE axe, it would be this axe because its so middle-of-the-road and therefore versatile. That being said, I think the GB is built more around felling than splitting, and my preferences are the opposite. I would have rather fell with a thicker bit than split with a thinner one...because my use tends toward smaller logs. That means I typically need less chopping and more splitting. Everything is preference and opinion based on use...its a great tool for someone, just not for me. Thanks for watching bro...Always nice to talk with folks
I use the granfors large splitting axe for light felling 12" diameter max (but heavy splitting) and any thing bigger I go for the FSS PULASKI and use that for felling, I man up and put both on the sides of my backpack, I live in Alaska and I go for 10 day hiking trips and having both is the way to go
Have you taken a look at the GB/Ray Mears collaboration wilderness axe? It has a 2lb head with a slightly wider profile and a 23" handle. I think, based on your perceived preference, that you would really enjoy this axe.
Its a bad axe if compared to a 3Lb axe but they are impressive given their weight. Out of the box they are pretty bad and miserable to work with but once you thinned down the handle and reprofile the cutting geometry they are effective. This is true with all the Swedish forest axes. You gotta be reasonable with your expectation and also don't buy one they are way over priced.
I have no experience to know what are my preferences, but now I`m kind looking exactly the opposite what you like which is this guy. So hey, Why don`t you sell it? Make a real good deal for me plz lol
its a limbing axe its not meant to split wood its meant to cut across grain its smaller and light because its meant to be light enough to cut smaller limbs with out have to use a large heavy axe you have the wrong axe for what you need read there web site get the right for what your wanting to do
yeah, I want a good all-around axe. Everyone raves about this thing "if I could only have one axe, it would be this one..." buuuuut it kinda sucks as an all around axe.
Jon Spencer , I own the Scandinavian Forest axe and I love it , but I’m agree with you it’s not the best all-around axe. Your review is helpful to choose the all-around axe 👍
FBBA members heads explode in 3........2.........1😜 My favorite axe also was a flea market find. Not as glamorous as them Bruks but it has helped make many a pile of firewood over the last 25+ years.
already got a thumbs down lol... shocking! I think I gave solid reasons for it based on my experience. I also was pretty clear that it's just my preference based on my use. am I wrong? nah
being off-center would bother my brain, but it shouldnt affect its usefulness. I couldnt hear the video where I was at, but ultimately...its your money. If you arent thrilled with it, I'd return it. Where did you buy it? If the seller wont accommodate you, go directly to HB
It’s designed for limbing and felling small trees the wetterlings Swedish forest Axe is a better tool imho same length and similar weight but more of a wedge profile to the head

First thing I thought of when he said it was better at felling . . . That's what it's made for!
The skandinqvian forest axe is a limbing axe, NOT a splitting axe
You cannot ask for anything better than a honest opinion, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
These are some of the best money can buy. I use gb axes almost daily and have never had a problem. I have done everything from building deer blinds to processing firewood.
yeah, I wouldn't doubt it...
I'd just rather do that with a different axe:)
I have a SFA and i love it! Just ordered the scandi. Looks like a love it or hate it. We’ll see!!! I backpack a lot so that’s where the gransfors get me
I have the GB splitting maul, and it also sticks.

@@jonspencer7004 You still trying to sell that thing?

I hadn't seen that one, thanks! I'll check that out
Except you can only buy them from the woodlore shop they sell as fast as they come in and cost 140 British pounds around 200 dollars I think
Even the most expensive ax is only as good as its user...
Nice job 👍
After all. It is a kind of "limbing" axe. I understand if it's not super for other chores, the blade is a bit thin and light for many tasks.
You have a hole where the handle meets the bit. I suggest you plug that before moisture gets in there. I sealed mine with bees wax
I drip boiled linseed oil down that hole
I only had my Scandinavian forest axe for two weeks and my edge already rolled on me.
thank you
Even the most expensive ax is only as good as its user... 😉
You SO crack me up 😅 . Covered in Raccoon fat and i can wiggle it 😅😅. Nice vid btw

Man you need a Kelly perfect it would be great for you 3 pounds bites and the phantom bevels keep it from sticking
How long a haft you think?

"I bought a felling axe and I don't like it because it better at felling than chopping". Haha
I think you mean splitting...
Thanks for watching
Lol
You probably should’ve bought a small forest axe or hunters axe. This is a Swedish felling axe.
that's probably true:)
