Liked the lock idea for my R6ii, so can shoot off to photo mechanic, and the Lightroom; I have been offered to shoot for a local club when team photographer is out on other assignments. So this quick lesson is something I can practice, before I have to do it “live”. Thank you
Thanks Rob. Always get stuck on Sunday Avo with 1500 photos to try sift through. Will give your process a try.
Very helpful Video again, is there anyway to import Locked Only photos into Lightroom ?
Not directly but I believe you can use some sort of plugin
Not quite the same method (and I've not watched the whole video so this may not be much use for you) but if you star them when you import them you should be able to filter by the rating and either delete that rating or delete anything above/below it. Hope that helps!
Rob keep up
Your good work. you asked in a previous vid about audio. This one is a bit quiet, but right at the intro there is a bit of audio clipping.
Thanks Steven - yeah agreed. I was 'testing' thos microphone.. let's just say that the teat was not good 🤦♂️
Do you always shoot in Raw?
Hi Rob, what laptop are you use for lightroom?
This helped a little. I’m still pretty confused taking photos into Lightroom but I’ll stick with it.
Hi Rob, great video as always, just wondering if you can point me in the right direction I have a Canon WFT-E8B Wireless Transmitter also a canon 1dx mk2 , I’m using the Canon connect app to transfer pictures which works fine. My dilemma is from the camera pressing the set button or the lock button I want the pictures to automatically send to my iPhone can you help I’m pulling what little hair I have out lol. Many thanks Chris
Hi Rob, very good info. I download from the camera many times during a match ( sure you do too). Do you change the star rating each download to avoid the same photos downloaded twice? I presume that you don't format the card in camera in the case of using star rating.. Thanks for letting me know
Hi Rob, how would you handle the above ?
Do you edit all the photos artes the game?
Not all, sometimes I'll do a second edit afterwards
How do you tether to your computer? I mean the 1dx u have can be fastest in transferring images using the Ethernet port or am I missing something ? But how would you only send select images crop from back of cam and press send that image only to wired tethered laptop via a 100mbps or faster Ethernet dongle select images locked or what have you ?
I dont think theres a way to isolate locked photos from a sony camera with lightroom. anyone know if theres a way? would be nice if a button could be made to quickly rate images on sony with just one rating like 1 star.
What I would like is the functionality to rate my sports photos in camera and only have those images transfer automatically via the Connect app to my mobile device. From there I could do a quick edit and post.
I've often wondered why working pros pitchside don't shoot tethered (cable)? I tried it as a test shooting cricket a few times, and while I didn't need to send anything off quickly, it seemed to work fine for having them available on the laptop fairly shortly after shooting, even when shooting large, fast bursts. Removing the card import step seems to be a good benefit, and tethering to an external ssd means you essentially never have to export the cards. Would you shoot tethered?? I'm probably missing something! Thanks for the presets too!
A lot will shoot tethered yes. I think its partly preference and depends on how mobile you need to be
@@RobSambles they do? Oh, OK, I didn't think I'd ever seen any that do. Cool, thanks!
Hey Rob, great vid.
If you were only "locking" a few images would you still always use photomechanic or just go directly to ligtroom? Is photomechanics main influence in this example the captions? (Hope that makes sense)
I use nikon and a phone (building the kit slowly...) so send images to phone, import to lightroom, edit and send to whoever is on socials
Cheers
Oli
Hey mate. For me I'd always go into Photomechanic first and yes that's mainly to add my copyright etc into the metadata and to tag and caption etc. If you didn't need to caption you could setup your metadata preset in Lightroom and bypass Photomechanic if that works for you
commented on your vlog to MCity about this and then found THIS video!
Ah cool - hopefully this workflow could work for you
(4:18) The most important thing when importing on Photo Mechanic....
The most important thing is not to accidentally select "Erase Source Disk(s) after Ingest". Like seriously, who thought that feature is a good idea, or wanted never mind needed, for the target users of this program?!? (Can you tell I've had a bad experience here? 😅)
This is a great point!
