How do you get the gear shift on the dash to line up with the gears on the transmission? Swapping an olds. 307 for a Chevy 350... Say it goes into park on the dash and transmission but when shift to reverse from park the gear on dash stops short in between the park and reverse not quite touching the reverse gear on dash? How to adjust the gears or plate underneath to get it to do that long original jump from park to reverse on the dash of Oldsmobile 307 or any car, like what do I move or modify to adjust it correctly? Loved the video but you didn't show the vehicle dashboard reading..
That is a great question. If you are putting a transmission in that has overdrive in a car that did not have overdrive, that can be difficult. You can buy aftermarket PRNDL displays for the column if your going from 3 speed to an overdrive for most cars. If you were trying to change where the needle lands you would have to change the length of the pivot point at the steering column or down at the shift lever at the frame in order to get just the right movement at the indicator. Our 70 has a column from and 1972 with tilt steering and the original 3 speed indicator. We just don't pay any attention to the indicator. Thanks for watching. Jerry and Emily
Prepping for a LQ4/4L80 swap in a stepside 85 and I am loving plowing through your videos. It’s like a personal how-to! I’m glad I saved the trans bracket from my old TH350C and left the original linkage hanging. Don’t need Lokar after all. Thanks!
Great tip. You almost have me inspired enough to ls swap my 69 c10. It is a manual so I was eyeballing the lokar tail mounted floor shifter. I would love to see a full video on a 69 to 72 c10 like Emily's. Every detail. The radiator, maybe power steering box swap, fuel system and guage connection. Every step in detail for a first timer is appreciated. I have a 5.3/4l60 with harness and accessories, 160k for $1700 lined up. I can't believe your RUclips channel hasn't blown up yet with all the c10 fans. Its one of the better channels for folks on a budget that will do the work themselves. I will spread the word in MN for you. Like seeing the dog too. Thanks
Most long tube headers end right before they reach the area where the shifter is. It would be the header collector and front pipe that would have to run under this. I would think it would work. If you do it, let us know how it goes. Thanks Jerry
Love your videos! One question I have is would this work with a 4L80E in a C/20? Just did an LQ9 6.0L swap and this is one of the few things I need to wrap up. Thank you!
Thanks MMO! Yep, the shift shaft on the 4L80E sits a little further back, but it should work the same. Let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Emily and Jerry
Awesome tip! I do believe that this method could work on my '68 C10 as well since they're very similar to the square body. I wonder if the TH400 shifter brackets will work the same? I've got to crawl under my old truck and have a look. Thanks for a great video!
Hey brother I appreciate the informative videos. I just swapped out my 76 c10 with an L96 and 6L 90E transmission. It’s sitting very low and I’m curious about cutting the trans tunnel and how to adjust everything once I lift the transmission. Any helpful info would be appreciated thanks
@@UglyTruckExperience I can send a few pics to show you how low it sits. I’ve yet to put as low profile pan on it but it should be fine so long as I can raise that transmission since I won’t be going too low

My 350 trans bracket does not show 45 degree angle toward front like yours in park…could the bolt coming out of the trans be wrong? Been banging my head against a wall for over a week.
Thanks! We've never swapped a G body, but it should work. It originally worked the same as a C10, but the bracket may be shaped differently. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! We appreciate you watching! --Emily and Jerry
Hey dude, on the original C10 TH350 transmission, do you know what that bushing part is that attaches the linkage to the frame rail? Mine is shot, and its causing the transmission to slip out of park. I need to rebuild the linkage, but I have no idea what the part is called.
Here's a link to the plastic bushing and spring we used in the video. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09BJJHMCX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you're needing the bracket that's attached to the frame rail, I believe it's called a shifter cross link bracket, or shifter cross shaft bracket. You'll probably have to go to a salvage yard or Ebay for an exact replacement. But it looks like OPGI has replacement brackets for A-bodies, which should work with some modifications. Here's a link to those... I want to ls swap my 1980 Chevy Scottsdale 4x4 but I have a manual transmission. Can I make it to an automatic? What will I need to do so or can you point me in the right direction?
I have a 74 K10 that we put a 6.0 and a 4l60e in. Had to buy an adapter for the original transfer case and completely tear the transmission down to put different output shaft in it. It is quite a bit of work and pretty expensive. Trans Dapt. 1000.00 If I remember right. It is nice though. I am glad that I did it. Thanks Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience I will have to research it more to see what’s affordable for me. I was looking at a floor shifter to go with the 4l60e? Seem pretty cheap that way but not sure it that’ll work. But definitely love ur content. My buddy wanted me to put the original engine it which is the 350 v8 but I don’t care about period correct motor, I care more about reliability and drivability.
Does the linkage need a little play in it (the part that has the spring and connects to the C bracket on the trans)? Mine doesn’t slide back in forth and won’t completely shift in to park.
Yes, it should slide back and forth a little bit. You don't want a ton of play, maybe 1/8 inch of movement. You also want to make sure that piece is straight perpendicular to the trans. If the angle is off, it could also cause it to bind up like that. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! --Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience I noticed in your video the C looking bracket when in Park is at the 10 o’clock and 4 o’clock position. Mine is 1 o’clock and 7 o’clock. I believe this is my problem but, cannot find the solution

@@UglyTruckExperience. I was scratching a hole in my head wondering why mine lined up perfect today. I’m thinking that it depends on who’s mounts a person uses. I went tejas for engine and trans.
If you are using stock harness and computer from a donor ls vehicle. You will have to use the prndl switch to let the computer know if it is in park or neutral and what gear it is in.
