I was 14 when I watched this anime. And while I'm 19 now. I never let go of the song playing right now. And as strange to say outloud, this anime helped me through a lot. Seeing this scene again after nearly 5 years, made me see how bittersweet the entire anime was. 12 saw Lisa as an ordinary person who could grant him a few moments of "ordinary-ness" while understanding completely of his goal with 9. As for Lisa, she felt like she lacked purpose and while so many people dislike her for her insecure and "unhelpfulness" in the anime. She's just like any other common person with a common life of struggling and bullying. She represents the majority who feel like they lack purpose. Second-guessing their actions and wanting to see some hope that life could be better. 9 gave her a reason to live. And Lisa gave him a reason to rest.
Here's what I came up with. When people are in trouble, they need to be looked at. (Using the term looked at, but I really mean. Look at me, I'm hurting, please I'm suffering.) 9 and 12. Went through something horrific, and everything they did was leading up to reveal what really happened to them. "Forcing" the people to look at them. In my opinion Lisa's image was more of the realistic view on what we deal with in reality. Dealing with bullies, troubles at home, unable to make friends, doesn't stand up for herself. She just wanted to be looked at. The people who've been hurt and ignored, were the ones to noticed her in trouble. You see how big of an impact that had on Lisa. Not being alone anymore and being looked at. Now for this scene, lets start in the past. 9-12 Left 5 behind, they didn't want to. 9-12 had to escape and they couldn't of gone back for 5, or they would of been caught. When 5 watches, 12 stay to help Lisa. It hurts her, because she was left behind. The beauty of this is when 5 got left behind, she held resentment for them. When Lisa, tells 12 to leave her. She does it because she understands how much 9, and 12 need each other. ( 5 - Feels betrayed.. Lisa is selflessness, and understanding ) When 12, apologizes to Lisa. I see it as him also saying sorry to 5. "I shouldn't of asked to bring you to the airport ( ask 9 to bring 5 along to try and escape)", I shouldn't of talked to you" (Befriending 5, and telling her about the escape plan) "I knew it would of turned out like this someday" ( He knew that 5 was too weak to make the escape, but wanted to help her ) Best part, is that Lisa and 5 were being compared to in the first episode, which makes this scene even more beautiful. Anyway it's just my opinion.
I think the moon scene clearly makes sense and it means that Twelve loves Lisa by not directly pointing it out guys (= his confession, and I love how the director portrayed the moon - a more poetic way of saying I love you in Japanese language). I think this is common sense and in my perspective, this wheel scene is romantically beautiful in some ways. They are all miserable and mentally vulnerable, but also they love each other, which is so touching and heartbreaking.
the anxiety you get from 12 trying to to stop the bomb from exploding as he expresses his feelings for her mixed in with the slow sad soundtrack playing in the background was perfection. im sad that most people wont be able to see this scene because of how little its shared but damn. definitely in my top 10
The song playing is such a lyrically meaningful and vivid. One line I love in particular is "Þegar allt sýnist stillt, allt er kyrrt, allt er hljótt, kviknar von." which translates roughly to "When all feels calm, all is still, all is quiet, hope ignites" with the word 'kviknar' in Icelandic describes the flicking alight of things such as turning on a TV or lighting a lamp. In the essence captured by this line, the song beautiful describes how always, without fail, despite the time, place, and conditions, hope always finds a way to sprout and blossom.
This is literally one of the best scenes I’ve ever seen in my life. I lost it over this scene for some reason. It was just so emotional. Their love was portrayed so perfectly it was heartbreaking in a way. The song fits so perfectly. The melody, the tone, what’s happening in the scene, how 12 was trying to save Lisa and how carefully he was deactivating the bombs. This scene will forever be in my heart. It’s just so... perfect.
I wish they had more intimate moments than just the few they were gifted. They are so cute together. This anime is very special to me. And always will be.
this scene shows very intense feelings. Lisa with a bomb on her body demonstrates her situation, her life, she does not know what is happening, what will happen or even what happened. you just feel guilty and ask for forgiveness. Twelve on the other hand knows perfectly what to do at the moment, he is very sure, too stressed, but with the fixed objective. then he looks at Lisa and with those eyes, he speaks to her, the time of the life advances, both see each other, both are full of love.
only terror in resonance can make a scene like this not intense but make it beautiful and touching. he knows he won’t have enough time. yet he still insists on staying with her so she wouldn’t have to suffer alone. i love how the scene leaves “i” up to interpretation. it makes you wonder if he said he loved her or if he said sorry for involving her(i really hope it was the former. i mean cmon, i know you saw how he grabbed her face🥺). the fact that the song’s title means hope but the situation they’re in is hopeless is so tragic. i love this show and it will always be in my heart even though it truly hurt me and put me on cold land😭😭😭
this may be stupid but does anyone remember how five tells lisa that her life means as little as an ants life and in the beginning of the anime we see how twelve tells nine how he likes ants :)
I swear this bomb disarming scene is probably one of the most impactful scenes in anime as it is filled with struggles and mixed emotions. The situation seems so dire and hopeless yet so beautiful at the same time. The reflection of lights on his eyes at 3.36 somehow reminds me of synthesia. The feeling of love and not leaving someone. Time seemed to pass by so slowly as if it almost came to a standstill. If we all have to die some day, this wouldn't be a bad place to go, would it? The soundtrack also elevated the scene to a whole new level.
this scene had me a sobbing mess. it was so loud yet so quiet. the scenery, the suspense, the music ESPECIALLY the music- this scene has to be one of my favorite scenes in anime history. it’s sad how this anime is so underrated- it’s so beautiful.
what i think is such a.... heartbreaking, scene in this show is when Lisa told detective about what nine said. "I asked Nine what he was always listening to. He said that is was music from a cold land.... from Iceland. And then... he said that in Icelandic, V-O-N means....."hope."." Its a breathtaking line, however the implications break my heart. When they were searching for "music from a cold place" earlier in the episodes, the detectives thought of antarctica. But nine thought of Iceland. he held it in his heart for years... and yet Iceland is not a cold place. detective Shibazaki was in shock when he heard that it was Iceland. the gravity of the situation dawned on him. the realization. He was just a child.. he had no proper education.. so he thought Iceland was cold.. it just shows how truly cruel the facility they were in was.
Bruh I was 17 when I watched this. Still I could remember clearly how emotional I was at that time. Fast forward to now (7 years later) omg how time flies
Conveying tension and beauty, fear and passion all at once within a melody is truly artistic and will go down as one of my most favorite anime scenes of all time.
I saw this anime in 2014 or 2015, and I keep coming back to watch this scene every year. It's one of the most beautiful scenes in all media I've seen in my life. The soundtrack, the animation, the direction, the dialogue, everything it's just... perfect. I was in awe the first time I saw it. The same with the motorcycle scene between Twelve and Lisa in episode 4. As Twelve and Nine asked for, after all these years, I remember them.
When what you have to say carries heavy meaning, you don't have to say it loud. Sometimes a lot of the message can be conveyed without words at all. This scene absolutely knocked it out of the park. Pound for pound, this single scene is probably one of my all time FAVORITES from ANY anime. And it's because they created a moment of pure art that perfectly encapsulates a "feeling" that is so incredibly challenging to capture. It's the intricate alignment of many facets of the story - characters, plot development, emotions, location, setting, context, drama, stress, hope and hopelessness... All crystallized into a moment of pure perfection. Like counting the precise date and time on a clock, knowing it will NEVER be that time in history again. And there's very little action or excitement. Just two people in a high-stakes situation coping with inevitability in different ways overlayed with a song that dials the emotions of the scene to 11 then breaks off the knob.
I love this scene... Even a sad scene like this is pleasing to watch, although I watched it with tears...but watched it before sleep, wanting to dream about it... Some people hate Lisha, but I like her. I can relate to her... But only without 12 in my life... I just liked how she got rescued... And even though she was helpless... But when she told 12 to escape, it showed that she could give her life for 12 and 9 to save them. She cared about 9 too, despite him being rude to her... 12 thanked Lisa someday in the future... Despite being weak and helpless, she was helpful in some way maybe. It's not only in this anime, but in real life too, I feel that people like Lisa aren't weak and they are equally good as others. They just need love. I loved how 12 was good towards her... People like 12 are rare to find, and many people like Lisa don't have them... I wish everyone gets basic love at least in their life. 🥺
This is an unforgettable show, and these scenes are something I will always revisit when I’m ever in a dark place. It reminds me that even through the toughest of times, you just have to take a deep breath, and accept the circumstances. Beautiful show, remarkable soundtrack.
I haven't seen this anime but I saw a yt short where this guy jumps in pool when this girl was getting bullied, and now this video. I dont know anything about main plot of this anime but I love this specific scene. The music, dialogues, expressions, actions are just perfectly synced and feels like masterpiece in its own... Man twelve is not that good name
I know the short you. I could go on for a while about why this scene is so good. Even without the context it's obvious. This is the power of cinema. And Yeah, if you think the names are funny wait until you see Five try to speak english.
You wanna know something? A girl I care a lot about and I rode a Ferris wheel with this song going on the background. I had gotten her to watch this beautiful show a few months before, so she understood how perfect it was. Started off as a “never in a million years!” thing to say we couldn’t possibly have her fly in and go to the boardwalk together someday. But the summer after we joked about it, *we were able to do exactly that* she had never been to one before I insisted she must. “Hey have you ridden a Ferris wheel? They have amusement park rides there.” “No I haven’t... Do you wanna? Should we?” “Yeah!” “Then okay! Yeah!” “...Do like heights?” “No.” “Me neither!” “Okay so I’ll drag you by force and you’ll drag me. We’ll suffer together.” “Okay!” We were at the front of the line, the sun was setting and the lights were turning on. We struggled a lot to get there since the weather wasn’t cooperating that weekend so it was touch and go if rides were gonna be available. But there we were. I turned to her and said “I love you.” She smiled at me and said “I know.” We got on and I was like “... So did you realize I was serious? This isn’t like a friend thing. I... Really like you. I’m not sure for how long I have in all the years we’ve been friends but I do. I can’t help it, I’ve been hiding it the whole trip and I can’t take it anymore V! This is probably so stupid and you’re probably gonna be weirded out but saying all this shit is scarier than being this high up in the air!” She put the song into our earbuds we shared. “Hey... Calm down, okay? I could never dislike you for anything. You’re wonderful. You’re gorgeous. You’re so smart I don’t even know how to keep up with you!” “Really..?” “Yeah! ...You wanna take your head out of my shoulder and look at this view now or?” It was the most beautiful sight I’d ever seen. I cried at the top of a Ferris wheel with the one I love as Von played. It was wonderful.
@@vraua The second half was sort of a let down... She said she didn’t know since she’s never even considered whether or not she liked me that way, she knew we had a close connection and that she cared about me, but never thought too deeply about whether or not that’s love. We’d been friends for nearly a decade at this point. I told her I didn’t care, she could give me an answer tomorrow, next week, next year, whenever she wanted. I just really wanted her to know how much she meant to me and how glad I was we could spend that week together. I’m gonna go see her again for her birthday this weekend, gotta go all the way into the city, but it’s worth it
It's been a long time since I saw this scene first time... The music made me cry time ago, I never knew why, but today, I know that I cry because Twelve will not see the end of this story R.I.P. Nine and Twelve
Such a great scene. As much as I think Terror in Resonance is definitely flawed, this scene is one of the best in making music fit with the tone. If only TiR was much longer, it would’ve easily gone down as one of, if, Shinichiro Watanabe’s best works.
I wonder if you can feel the intensity of this scene which is still portrayed as calm and peaceful. I am not talking about the stress they feel due to the explosives, but more like the intense intimate moment they are having. I don't find that a lot in art, found it here
This animation has the best illustration and animation of facial expressions for characters better than any other cinema or drama or media i have never in my life has scene before. The displays of facial expression for characters in every situation of despair and sorry fully encapsulates the unique characteristics of human facial expressions, they way the characters facial body are animated when they confront an unprecedented situation fully convey and incarnate human emotion. they way the character lower their eyes in most situation is amazing. they way twelve lower his eyes at 1:58 when he sees and realized that disarming the bombs in that limited time is almost an impossible task has ever stocked with me forever.
If this has a live action adaptation, the whole Japanese government will be furious because it tackles sensitive art medium such as the main theme of the anime is all about terrorism terrorizing tokyo. Imagine that, but a well done executed live action will be as sad as the anime. If they just put the original ost.
I thought I would feel tense with the situation they are in. But why the hell do I feel so relaxed? Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s honestly the fact it’s on that beautifully animated Ferris wheel. This scene only had a few words and I knew what was gonna happen next. It’s incredible
This scene was so beautiful. I really have to agree with others here in the comments. This scene evokes a strong sense of calm despite the very stressful circumstance, resulting in a strangely tranquil tension. Definitely, my favorite scene in the anime. The way Twelve looks up, says "But... I..", the moon finally reveals itself, and Lisa comes to terms with her situation, accepts and is grateful, the feeling of wanting to be sorry replaced with acceptance and thankfulness.

You are amazing
^^
Great atmosphere for this scene, including great songs used for the emotional moment.
This scene is an answer to how to show love without the word. true cinematographic masterpiece

I can swear Twelve has one of the most soothing and reassuring voices in anime. The voice actor did such a great job here.
this scene shows very intense feelings.
I'm back again watching this scene
only terror in resonance can make a scene like this not intense but make it beautiful and touching. he knows he won’t have enough time. yet he still insists on staying with her so she wouldn’t have to suffer alone. i love how the scene leaves “i” up to interpretation. it makes you wonder if he said he loved her or if he said sorry for involving her(i really hope it was the former. i mean cmon, i know you saw how he grabbed her face🥺). the fact that the song’s title means hope but the situation they’re in is hopeless is so tragic. i love this show and it will always be in my heart even though it truly hurt me and put me on cold land😭😭😭
this may be stupid but does anyone remember how five tells lisa that her life means as little as an ants life and in the beginning of the anime we see how twelve tells nine how he likes ants :)
waitttt really?? that's so cute, not stupid at all
OMG 😭
One of my favorite scenes of all time
JUST SAY "I love you" 😭
Fr this scene was the perfect time for them to kiss😭😭😭
what i think is such a.... heartbreaking, scene in this show is when Lisa told detective about what nine said.
"I asked Nine what he was always listening to. He said that is was music from a cold land.... from Iceland. And then... he said that in Icelandic, V-O-N means....."hope."."
Its a breathtaking line, however the implications break my heart.
Lisa: “run away”
Twelve, at the top of a massive Ferris wheel with no way down: 👁️👄👁️
This anime had a good soundtrack
my god, this scene always leaves me in tears
Just two people in a high-stakes situation coping with inevitability in different ways overlayed with a song that dials the emotions of the scene to 11 then breaks off the knob.
i can't even explain the way i feel whenever i watch this scene... tears just fall down.
Easily my fav scene for the whole show. imo I wasn’t the biggest fan of this anime but man I felt the feels here very well done
Finished this anime months ago and I still can’t let this scene go🥺
Me too
I really really thought they were gonna die on that ferris wheel for a good second man.
I can't explain how relaxed I felt the first time seeing this. It was as if I'd ever died at that moment, it wouldn't have even mattered.
All these years later, still the most stand out scene from an anime I’ve seen.
This is an unforgettable show, and these scenes are something I will always revisit when I’m ever in a dark place. It reminds me that even through the toughest of times, you just have to take a deep breath, and accept the circumstances.
Beautiful show, remarkable soundtrack.
I love this scene so much...❤❤❤
4:55 that sound!...….
I literally just watched the exact same short, which got me to this video lol😭
Idk how to dress it in right words, but even with fantastical premise of story it felt so real(?) on emotional level
This whole scene was so heartbreaking to me. I was completely silent and invested the whole time
You wanna know something? A girl I care a lot about and I rode a Ferris wheel with this song going on the background. I had gotten her to watch this beautiful show a few months before, so she understood how perfect it was.
Started off as a “never in a million years!” thing to say we couldn’t possibly have her fly in and go to the boardwalk together someday. But the summer after we joked about it, *we were able to do exactly that* she had never been to one before I insisted she must.
“Hey have you ridden a Ferris wheel? They have amusement park rides there.”
“No I haven’t... Do you wanna? Should we?”
“Yeah!”
“Then okay! Yeah!”
“...Do like heights?”
“No.”
“Me neither!”
“Okay so I’ll drag you by force and you’ll drag me. We’ll suffer together.”
“Okay!”
We were at the front of the line, the sun was setting and the lights were turning on. We struggled a lot to get there since the weather wasn’t cooperating that weekend so it was touch and go if rides were gonna be available. But there we were.
I turned to her and said
“I love you.”
She smiled at me and said
“I know.”
We got on and I was like
“... So did you realize I was serious? This isn’t like a friend thing. I... Really like you. I’m not sure for how long I have in all the years we’ve been friends but I do. I can’t help it, I’ve been hiding it the whole trip and I can’t take it anymore V! This is probably so stupid and you’re probably gonna be weirded out but saying all this shit is scarier than being this high up in the air!”
She put the song into our earbuds we shared.
“Hey... Calm down, okay? I could never dislike you for anything. You’re wonderful. You’re gorgeous. You’re so smart I don’t even know how to keep up with you!”
“Really..?”
“Yeah! ...You wanna take your head out of my shoulder and look at this view now or?”
It was the most beautiful sight I’d ever seen.
I cried at the top of a Ferris wheel with the one I love as Von played.
It was wonderful.
what happened then?
Wich are the flaws?
I wonder if you can feel the intensity of this scene which is still portrayed as calm and peaceful. I am not talking about the stress they feel due to the explosives, but more like the intense intimate moment they are having. I don't find that a lot in art, found it here
now I’m crying again
If they just put the original ost.
just noticed the bombs were activated when twelve came
Five just activated the bomb when she saw twelve on the camera what's so surprising about that ?
This is a top beautiful scene, masterfully accomplished by Watanabe sama
Probably one of my all time favorite anime scenes.
Twelve voice heal my soul
Thank you for posting an unedited version of this scene. Also listen to Sigur Ros if you like the music here it was the main inspiration!
4:45 i have a waterfall 😭😭😭
This scene was so beautiful. I really have to agree with others here in the comments. This scene evokes a strong sense of calm despite the very stressful circumstance, resulting in a strangely tranquil tension. Definitely, my favorite scene in the anime. The way Twelve looks up, says "But... I..", the moon finally reveals itself, and Lisa comes to terms with her situation, accepts and is grateful, the feeling of wanting to be sorry replaced with acceptance and thankfulness.
Everytime I see this scene my mood goes 🥺🥺♥️
My fav anime and scene ever
They all know.
I'm crying with everyone.
One of the favourite scenes of this anime ❤️✨
jus watched and its alreayd one of my fav of all time
i never heard of "zankyou no terror" but youtube autoplay once played the music from this scene and i started watching the anime because of it ... when i heard the music again in this scene my tears started falling :(
I wish the end could have been Lisa thinking about how twelve and nine sacrificed for her 😭
The song from this scene is one of my favorites from the OST. Gives me Radiohead vibes. Yoko Kano is great.

This was so beautifully heartbreaking. The life they could’ve lead but he knew in his mind it could never be yet he still allowed himself to feel that moment between him and Lisa
