michael o'mahony parents always know a lot more than they let on and let you get away with a lot more than they want you to know. I thought my parents had no idea I smoked weed for months until one day they confronted me and told me they were worried about the fact that I was coming home almost every day with red eyes and smelling like weed.
I remember getting my first car, a 2000 mustang. I took it out on the highway and was clocked going 110mph. The cop asked me why I was going so fast and I replied "I just got the car, I wanted to open the throttle, I don't plan on ever doing this again." The cop made me promise him about what I've said was the truth and let me off. I've never gone above 75 since then.
Kap pa I too got a 2000 mustang as my first car. 5 speed manual pearl white. I've gone 100+ on it too never got a ticket on that thing till this day ironically before I sold it, it was the most reliable car I've ever owned.
These are myths. Man, we try renting space, like the crap private airport nobody uses , or the giant marina parking lot at night. We pay security , we have done every sneaky thing you can.. bottom line , you just have to find a spot , stop traffic and do that shit. At least in our area.
Arne is full of amazing car stories. Keeping your first car for this long is awesome, particularly if it is still in such amazing shape. My first car blew up long ago.
I have seen this car on 294 once before and freaked at how clean it was. Thank you for keeping it such a survivor for the Chicago area! Obscure cars like these are always so interesting to see on the road in areas with lots of salt.
i'm 15 right now, and this story is freaking sick! Just found your channel a few days ago and now i watched about 12 of your videoes, and all the videoes in the recommended box is from you :)
Killer story! I think many of us car guys have stories like this where we may have taken Dad's car out for a joyride without them knowing, glad to hear Arne didn't get caught and still has the car!
Sube Tube is gonna go outside now and steal my mom’s Santa Fe and do 100 just so I’m not the only one who hasn’t done any of that stuff. Ps I’ll go on the exact highway that dude went on cause I live 10 mins away from there
I was tempted to drive to the front of our apartments to take the trash out but didn't. I reasoned that if I somehow dented or scratched the car I would've been dead.
That was a really awesome story to hear. Reminds me a lot of my 1st car. I had a 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo that, in a lot of ways is actually pretty similar to that Mitsubishi. Both are Sedans, neither are really sporty looking, both are quicker than they appear and both are really fun to drive. I loved that car to death. Sadly I was forced to sell my Volvo earlier this year when I lost my home and couldn't afford to take it with me. I still have the License Plate number and hopefully I can track it down one day and can rebuy it from the people I sold it to. Because if I had the money, I would do exactly what this guy did and fully restore it.
This! Got in trouble driving a friends boxy 740 Turbo 5 Speed MT (I think?) too fast in a neighborhood once when I was in High School. I definitely was going too fast and now would have yelled at me too! I said so sorry and limped off hoping they wouldnt call the cops.
When I was a little kid a red (apparently sports car) was running from the copson my block and then the next day the local newspaper reported that a red car that was running from the cops at high speeds slid off the road and hit a tree.
This video is awesome. You can see in his eyes the thrill of that night to this day when he is telling the story. And makes me remember the exact same feeling we all experienced doing stupid things and messing with the law as kids.
Yeah i tried to out run the cops in my 400hp crown vic then when i thought id lose them and ... i ran out if gas i spent three months in county then sold the vic now i drive a 102hp 1999 saturn sl1
Great story and mad respect for rebuilding it and resisting the urge to mod it! I would love to track down my previous car that I had to sell to pay for college
What a great story! I'm about the same ages you are so I can definitely relate to this whole experience. I am also not modifying the older cars too much. Brakes and suspension only typically
My “let’s go see how fast we can go in this car” story happened when I was 16, the second night I had my license, in my 1990 Mazda Miata. I was restricted to driving in just the neighborhood, per my parents. Long story short, my buddy and I ended up on this perfectly straight road out in the county, topping out at 116 mph. Didn’t get pulled, didn’t get in trouble. 6 years later, I still haven’t told them. When they’ve asked how fast I’ve gotten the Miata up to, I just reply “above 90.” And I still have that little red car.
That stretch of road he's talking about in about 5 minutes from where I live. That's crazy but if he went a mile or so farther there's a much better place to do 100+
You can't get away with anything these days! I used to regularly drive my Vitesse to work in the early 80s before I had a licence. I had the occasional panic and discovered how tail happy that chassis was a few times...
My best friend Xavier, he was a big rebel but one night, he took it too far. His parents were asleep and he rolled the car down the street and started it where nobody could hear. He drove onto the local highway with a bunch of friends I didn't know and he was clocked doing 180 km/h in a 90 zone. He was caught by the cops and dropped his friends off and said "goodbye". This was the last chance anyone would see him ever again. He drove off and t boned a truck and was.. killed.. immediately. As soon as I found out, I.. just thought it was all over and I hated looking at cars for a few weeks, but I knew that I could never get over my love for cars. It was one of the many reasons we were friends.
As I grew up I always heard the cool stories from my dad, uncles and their friends about their first cars and how one of their biggest regrets was selling or trading them in back in the day. So when i got a 91 z28 in back in 93' , I decided I would keep it as long as I could and try to take care of it. Still have it and have no regrets. I even got to take it out on the racetrack last summer! Might not be the coolest car around but every time I drive it I feel like a kid again.
This is what i’ve been doing with my dads 2017 Camaro SS for the past couples weeks so when i saw the title i was like “hahahah that’s me” but some day i’ll tell him and i think it’ll make for a great story
Looks something like the early Skyline shapes. I can see why you love it. Classic will always remain classic. Just recently got hold of a 27 year old Honda for my son in fantastic condition. Its what I rode back in the day. Can completely relate.
I love this story because my dad bought a 98 civic ex off the lot in December of 97. Before I was born. And I spent my entire life in that car, so many memories. I learned stick in that car, and when I turned 16, my dad gave it to me. I went on to do simple modifications, but the car has been a part of my heart for my entire life. It recently was hit by a stray semi tire on the highway and it ripped off the front and rear bumpers, causing a crack in the quarter panel, causing the first and only piece of rust on the entire car. I parked it and bought an 05 sti, and no matter what, I cannot bring myself to sell that car. This video makes me never want to get rid of it.
I drive on that road all the time! I know exactly what he's talking about. The long straight, the s-curve and of course, where the cop usually stays haha.
This is cool. I have one here in New Zealand, (called a V3000), my grandfather bought new in '88. Got it when my grandmother passed away two years ago. Still mint condition, will never get rid of it. Absolutely love it.
Andy Davis yeah. Someone recognized it. I have one myself. 88 sand gold. Only 17 and I've got it fixed back up from when it was pile. Blown head gasket and turbo stuff and lots of replaced parts.
Travis Case I myself have one now as my first car. Only 17 but I've done a some stuff to it. Saab intercooler, lb3 computer. Some basic stuff it's a blast and couldn't have asked for a better first car.
100% his dad knew
michael o'mahony ofc, 30 min. of driving leaves evidence on the fuel gauge ^^
That cigarette was just to sweat him a bit.
Also the miles the dads gotta see them going uppppp & also the gas lol
Parents know everything idk why do
michael o'mahony parents always know a lot more than they let on and let you get away with a lot more than they want you to know. Benjamin H No Problems for us here in Germany though 😂 Tested the vmax of many cars here
unless you drive a jeep, its pretty anticlimactic.
It’s great hearing this story cause I know these roads he did this on and I’m pretty sure the cops still use the same spots 😂.

Benjamin H especially if you're 15. Or drive a mustang. Or both

@Bill Cosby god bless the German Autobahn!
@Bill Cosby it was probably 50 back in the day because remember this was a long time ago
I got clocked going 115 in a 55 yesterday (it was on a country road) no homes or cars except the state trooper sitting at the end.

Best bet, befriend a bunch of cops. Then they can shut the road down at 3 A.M. and you can race and not have to worry about a ticket.
