    Here's a tip: Add your food colouring to the water first then you can skip an entire stage and I imagine you can use a blender in place of all the sieving stages. Happy Holi - just enough time to get ready for the weekend. Thanks for posting

    add dye to the water and not afterwards.

  • @hazennetaplac2848
    @hazennetaplac2848 9 лет назад +2

    It took me 6 hours to cook 3 colors (since I used a small oven). That would be like 3 packs of cornstarch. I also used powder dye (so, I still need to dilute it). The result of mine was, color is not that vibrant. If anyone else is using powdered dye and wanted it to make the color more visible, I suggest that you put a lot because the color fades when you heat/cook it in the oven.

    in south america corn starch is so necessary for food recipes that you can find it everywhere, and really cheap.
    if someone from southamerica is reading, cornstarch = maizena

    I just want to warn everyone you do want to use icing dye because liquid food coloring will get you a pretty pale wet result and I'm still in the drying phase but I imagine it'll be less than neon when it's done so keep that in mind.

      Recent update: I added about 20 drops of food coloring per pound(a little less than 500g) and the color did not fade during the drying process the finished product is still not as bright as the powder made with the icing dye but it's still pretty colorful.

    Have a quick look at the video I mad with the powder and you'll see it actually takes quite a bit to get it to stick.... even after I got them to have a water fight to give it an even higher change of sticking. It will fall off very fast I would got for painting green and just use that. But ya it looks good in all colors it just depends how you make it and how colorful you make it. I'm glad you liked the video =)

    too much process, you can try drying it all out till it becomes rock hard, then pulverise it using a food processor. it still works the same
    Also you can add water based scents / essence oils to make it smell a little fragrant :)

    I would like to see a discussion of safety for throwing color powder into a crowd of people. Corn starch or whatnot sounds innocent enough, but at a certain concentration and at a certain atmospheric condition, just about any powder can become extremely explosive and can be easily be ignited by just a spark or by someone's cigarette. That is why all the equipment used in industrial grain storage facilities or for handling solid powder must have explosion-proof certification. About a year or two ago, there was a color powder explosion accident that happened at a water park in Taiwan with hundreds of people sent to hospitals. Dozens of them eventually died.

    1. Why not dry/bake first and then blend it, skipping the sieves, mortars, and all the mess.
    2. Is the end result the same consistency as the beginning cornstarch? If so I wonder if simply adding powdered food coloring to cornstarch would work and be easier?

    • @TherunningrockerOfficial
      @TherunningrockerOfficial  10 лет назад

      1. It would not dry fully as you need the surface area of the layed out powder to fully dry out..
      2. I would have no idea... I don't think it would be the same as the color is literally into the corn starch...

    Ah ok well if you use just plain flour you don't actually try it out in a bowl... When i was researching this i found out that if it's done with normal flour its dried in big long thin sausages of dough and i think it takes a few days to dry. It's like making play dough and letting that dry. That's why i went for the corn flour way =). Hope this helps you out..

  • @TherunningrockerOfficial
    @TherunningrockerOfficial  11 лет назад

    Well with baby powder it will defiantly work if you just want white. However i don't think it has the right properties but I could be wrong... However baby powder is actually slightly toxic.... So I would not recommend using it. As for staining clothes, that's just the nature of the beast.... I don't think there is any way out there to make a colored powder that will not stain even if it's just a little.... I hope this helps and have fun if you go ahead with the powder idea for your school =)

    Well from the Non-Newtonian state to about 70% dry i would say about 24 hours to 48 hours if you add to much water. As for when your dehydrating it in the oven i would say 15-30min. Best way I found was to just get lots of batches going. =)

    what do you mean by shoot the powder out ???
    If you mean literally shooting the powder out, You can use a co2 canon or a modified paintball gun. If you mean shoot as is photography and video. It's pretty easy to pick up, but if you don't want it to blur in a photo i would use a fast lens and a flash with a very fast shutter to capture the moment. I hope that helps.....

    It all depends on the amount you have to make, If you have lots of bowls You can make lots in one go let all the bowls dry which is generally one day if you add as little water as possible. Then as you will have so much to dry out, that will take a day as well so you could probably do it all in two days if you work like crazy on it =)

      I dont' think that would fully work due to the absorbent nature of corn strach. and if you put in a non-newtonian fluid into a bender I think it would break it due to its properties

    What exactly is the difference in the procedure or time needed when I use flour? Seems like the dough doesn't dry like as hard as you what you did.

    Instead of waiting for it to dry naturally could you use an oven from the start and dry it out this way?

    I make homemade play dough and add the color to the liquid. Saves a lot of time. I'm sure you could do the same for this recipe. :)

      Great job, thanks. Run or Dye on RUclips and watch what they do with the powder there! :) It's a run in Canada.

    I LOVE the video!!! It helped me out a lot! I have a question: Well i'm thinking about doing it for my niece's graduation next week, is it easy to clean up from the street, shower and carpet with water?

      I'm glad it's helped, I don't know about carpet due to the food coloring but from the street and tilde surfaces with just water it will clean off from my experience. I hope that helps

    Sorry about that this was done in the last few weeks of me being at university, and trying to have a clean communal kitchen is like trying to bleed a stone....
