I gave up music when I was younger. And now here I am, older, playing again. You can't get it out of your system no matter how old you get or how mature you're supposed to act. When the music is in you you can't leave it behind. You will hear it calling you and you will eventually cave.
John Frusciante puts all his passion and love for music everytime he plays, and to me, that's what really makes you a great guitarist. Tricks are good, but passion wins I think. Frusciante is by far my favorite guitarist, I have this musical connection with him, it just blows my mind.
That was great, what you said about his soul yelling throught that guitar, I really feel that in his playing in "I Could Have Lied" for example, so tremendously expressive, passionate. Frusciante is one of the most gifted, tasteful, imaginative and honest/non-pretentious guitarists to have ever played!
This was the best performance of his I've ever seen. I believe he was unhappy during this period, and he translated it perfectly. He seems to creatively thrive off of inner/personal conflict, and wow can he emote.

Is there a higher quality sound recording? At times I can't hear drums or bass at all... I think this could sound so much better in a more central place in the room... anyone?
It wouldn't be the same seeing them without him. I thank God everyday that I got to see them preform in 2006. It was the best $75 bucks I have EVER spent!
