    Hi Terry, I thought that sugar accelerated trace. How does it keep your batter fluid when using a fragrance oil that accelerates? I'm really intrigued. I struggle with fragrance oils that accelerate and I have read that adding sugar can also increase lather which is always a good thing. I really love your videos.

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  4 года назад +1

      You have to dissolve it completely in the distilled water before you add the lye. It doesn't work for every accelerating fragrance, but I have found it definitely works for some.

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  4 года назад +1

      No, I use less water, and that helps with that the heat. I learned the sugar trick from the soap challenge. The sugar has to be completely dissolved in the water before the lye is added. I know it helps because I use it with my Kentish Rain FO, and I forgot it one time, and there was a definite difference. 💕

    That is beautiful! I think selling your recipes is a good idea. Being generous is great but not when time, effort, and instruction far outweigh revenue on the business end. I like this idea because I am a victim of an up front yearly subscription to which I am very disappointed. I paid then went to the website only to find many errors. There were recipes with no instructions, descriptions of products w/o a recipe, and the most frustrating was pics of great products and a message saying 'recipe coming soon.' Coming soon? I've already paid for full access and 90% of the content is not there. I spelled this out because I want people to know what my experience was in detail. Also this experience is why I think charging a small fee for recipes with full step by step instructions is a better way to go. People can pick and choose exactly what they want. OK, I'll climb off my soap box now! Lol Again beautiful soap. I love all your creations and look forward to purchasing recipes from you. THANKS!

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  4 года назад +1

      Thank you for explaining, Gwen. That is precisely what I would be afraid of. I don't have time for any extras to offer to members. I don't want to disappoint anyone or put more stress on myself. I am thinking of charging $5. I hope that is doable for people, again it is time-consuming, so I think it is fair.

  • @JustAnotherBuckyLover

    I love the effect of this! soo pretty and such a simple change to a regular in-the-pot swirl to produce a very delicate effect.
    As for the revenue issue, I don't see a problem with selling your recipes, if that is what you want to do. But I wonder if you have you considered perhaps using Patreon? I know that not everyone can afford it (I tend to swap my memberships around to at least give a little to the different people when I only have a limited budget to spare) but it might be another option (and its a little better than the RUclips membership because Patreon takes a far lower cut than RUclips, who takes around 30% from subs to their membership program). There are a number of options there that you could offer too - including your soap recipes, maybe being able to see your videos a day earlier than everyone else, Q and A sessions/videos, extra tutorials (either just for Patrons or again, simply earlier than others), being able to vote on new video ideas or make suggestions etc. Some people also add the names of their patrons (either all of them, or just the higher tiers, to the end of their videos as a thank you, and others set up a monthly chat (either on Discord or Google Hangouts or Skype, whatever is your chat program of choice).
    It is an extra thing to do, but I know I'd be happy to spend a few bucks a month just to see the videos earlier and be able to help pick a video topic or have access to a list of recipes or hints and tips etc. And obviously, you could set up different tiers with different bonuses - maybe for 1 dollar a month, it's just early access to your regular videos and a basic soap recipe, $2 gets you early access and votes for new videos, while say $5 a month gets you the other stuff plus extra recipes, behind the scene videos, or whatnot. And some of my Patreons don't even do a flat fee per month, they base it on the number of videos produced a month - so if you have to slow down one month for whatever reason, then they won't feel put out about paying the full cost (though generally speaking, most Patrons I've seen have been more than understanding about real life interfering too). And it's also entirely up to you how much or little you offer - some people only offer early access or credits on the videos.
    Anyway, if that's something that you'd be interested in doing, I know I would be more than happy to be your first patron - another thing that people can do for free, as well, is to click on a link to another of your videos after finishing the new one. That also helps to increase the chance of your videos ending up being recommended too. I'm going off to watch your confetti video now, for just that reason.

      @JustAnotherBuckyLover These are great ideas! Thank you for your support! I love your comments, and I look forward to hearing from you each week. What I worry about with Patreon is that I won't be able to offer anything extra. I am pretty much at my limit as far as what I can do. That's why I thought a recipe would be good, instead of a membership. I didn't think about the soap makers who sell their soap in the UK. They can just change their recipes because of the expensive approval process. That wouldn't work for them. I'm still thinking, but I am working on getting some recipes ready.

    Beautiful! I love how you explain why you add certain ingredients and why you work with certain tools or in certain ways. I mixed the lye solution for my first soap in a pot that I placed in a bowl filled with ice cubes, and the sodium hydroxide had a hard time dissolving. The second time I made soap, I mixed without the ice bath, and so it dissolved easily and reached 60°C (possibly higher). Then I moved it into an ice bath till it was around 35°C and continued to the next step. That's it, I've only made two soap batches to date 😊 it was good that I first measured the oil and only then prepared the lye solution as a beginner, to feel more in control - when there's lye solution I am more alert and kind of anxious. Anyhow enough of my rambling! I appreciate your videos and you explanations, and your work is beautiful ♥

    I'm loving these videos. One of my 2020 goals is to actually start soaping, and the detail you give us in these videos is so helpful!! Thank you!! I can't say that I will ever be this detail-oriented and precise, but it is so helpful when it comes to learning the reasons behind every aspect of soaping.

    Hello Teri, I binge watched all of your videos! 😆 I am a fan!! I too have a art background and love your design and color choices for soap. Your use of the palette knife made me smile. Your soap inspires me and I am so glad you are so generous to put these videos out there. It would be awesome to be able to purchase recipes with these videos and help you feel like you can continue keeping these videos coming. I would totally support you and hope you decide to do that. Some of the topics I would like to see: 1) pine tar soap with a design. 2) goat milk soap. 3). Use of natural colors such as Alkanet root, Madder root, turmeric etc... (I am not sure if you use those types of colorants.) I look forward to your videos!

    I just watched this video again after having made my first two-color soap. There's so much useful info that you explain that can get lost when you're a beginner and watch it one time. Like what you explained about powdered sugar, water discounting and oven processing, blending pigments, etc. Thank you for sharing this information so clearly. There's definitely a wealth of info in each of your videos. Worth watching more than once and taking notes, and watching again after getting more hands on experience.

    Thank you for sharing your techniques and tips! I absolutely love your videos!! Also, thank you for sharing how we can show our support (so you can make $). I wasn’t aware that skipping ads and not commenting would negatively impact your ability to commercialize your videos. I’ll no longer skip your ads and will try to comment on most videos. Hoping I can play a small part in you getting the credit you deserve!
    Feedback to your plan to sell your recipes: in all honesty, I rarely look at the comments/recipes to your videos, as I generally watch for your techniques and tips. I assume that my own recipes will work (and verbally they have). Perhaps I am the minority, though.
    Thank you again! I have learned so much from you and hope that you can continue this season fantastic videos.

    Beautiful! I'm mesmerized. Where did you get the soap cutter if you don't mind answering. I'm new at soapmaking. Thanks.

    What are you mixing the colors with? doesn't whatever that is affect your soap recipe? It looks like oil. Love this video!

    I think it’s a great idea to sell your recipes individually. That way people could buy one here or there that appeals to them. I have a RUclips channel too- and practically gave up doing it regularly as i made $100 one time. And hour and hours of work. And that was before they made it harder to earn an income!
    You do such a great job soaping, and the videography. And you have a sweet relaxing voice.
    Do it!!!!

    What oil are you using to mix your mica powder colorants in? (Newbie to soap making and have a pretty big shopping cart from the same company waiting to hit send on.) Also, where do you get your Titanium Dioxide colorant? I have looked many places but after buying "oof" oils for my first two batches, I'm paranoid about shopping for soap supplies. I just want to make soap for my family. :)

    This is a great video, my first from your channel and I did subscribe.
    Getting close to retirement age and have been looking at woodwork, epoxy, and other things. Well, soapmaking I also find interesting as does my wife and we both enjoy essential oils sooo these things fall in line with each other to a degree --- thank you for this well-made video.
    I will be checking out your website and if I do any soapmaking will also just select some of your recipes.
