My birthday will never die and I will always have a party for the sole reason I have a friend that owns a liquor store and gives me a bottle to match age (or as close as possible to it) as a gift every year. I'm hoping this adds to my mooch level.
As a massive fan of the band, I was equal parts worried (because celebrity branded products are often... well... not so great) and excited (because I know that they never put out something that they don’t wholeheartedly believe in) - and I have to say, it is one of my favorite whiskeys I’ve ever had
I don't understand that. Even if Metallica isn't your favorite band...they were the biggest metal band of the 80s and you'd think a guitar instructor would really study their playing. But hey, different strokes for different folks.
Just figured I'd throw this comment on here to let you know you created a monster. A pair of them actually. A couple weeks ago one of your videos popped up in my recommendations and I watched it...then another and another and so on. Even got my wife watching them. Now I've never been a big whisky drinker or anything but always have a bottle of cheap stuff around. Jamison or Pendleton and it usually last a couple years to give you an idea of how much I drink it. Well you guys just changed that. I had no idea there was more to whisky than just shots and mixed drinks. Thank you for opening my eyes to this. After binge watching a ton of your videos I decided I better order something better than what I had on hand. I put in an online order for Nikka yoichi, dalmore 12, dalmore 15 and monkey shoulder. And then my wife and I got impatient and just went down to the liquor store and picked up a bottle of Balvenie Caribbean cask 14 and a bottle of Nikka coffee grain. We are both having fun trying to see what we smell and taste in these and obviously have a ways to go with training our senses to pick up on subtle smells and taste. Anyways we are enjoying your videos tremendously and I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do these videos and opening our eyes to this whole new world of whisky.
I won't send b-day wishes to Daniel, but, I will say thank you. I appreciate the time that you have given to the Tribe and those who admire your work. You have done a great service to us with the years you have been given.
It's my 21st tomorrow (4th) it's good to know that rex approves I can celebrate. On another note, let this wonderful community never ever forget that Daniels birthday is the 3rd of December. Put it in your calendars, and this time next year we shall wish the hell out of him for his birthday. Let it be so.
A musician who never listened to Metallica? Daniel you never fail to surprise me! I'm gonna try this whiskey because I'm curious about the "music impacting whiskey aging" thing, could be just a rumor but who knows.. Plus because it's creator is highly regarded!
New York distillieries, in addition to Kings County and Hudson: Coppersea (they're in the Hudson Valley and they make a mean rye as well as other whiskeys too), New York Distilling Co. (they're in Brooklyn and they make several ryes and gins, really nice stuff), Widow Jane (also in Brooklyn and they make a bourbon and rye), Van Brunt Distillery (also in Brooklyn, not far from Widow Jane--I really like their "American Whiskey", which I think was made from mostly wheat and barley). That's a good start I think! I'm from New York and I love what's been happening over here as far as craft whiskey goes. There's been n actual movement to brand the idea of an "Empire Rye", due to the prominence of the grain in the state of New York.
What are good entry whiskeys for people who tend to lean more twards other alcohols. I.e. people who like vodka would might like this whiskey or people who like rum might like this whiskey.
I already love the beers released by Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and anthrax. I didn't know this existed but I'm probably going to have to pick a bottle of this up.
But if you guys get the chance, check out Iron Smoke, O'Begly, Black Button, Southern Tier and Honeoye Falls distilleries. Or I may have to figure out a way to get some to you guys as I don't know if I can ship whiskey out of N.Y., Or in N.Y. For that matter
Van Brunt Stillhouse distillery in Brooklyn, NY, very different from anything else I've tasted, they really bring out the taste of the grains used for their whiskies.
I've been waiting for this review for a while. Now to just find out where to get my hands on a bottle since my state doesn't allow alcohol to be bought and shipped online!
Could you review some Loch Lomonds? I'm a big fan of both whisky and the adventures of Tin Tin. Captain Haddock drinks Loch Lomond so would be fun to see those whiskys be featured!
Not sure if it has already been mentioned in the comments, but there is a great distillery on Long Island (NY) called Long Island Spirits which makes an excellent Single Malt but also makes very good bourbon and rye whiskey.
Wait...when is Daniel's birthday? When did you film this? I'm just trying to figure out if my birthday matches his - mine was on 12/1...and I had about 8 different whiskeys!
To the MY question, coppersea distilling is another near nyc. Upstate is my area and there is an enormous amount of distilleries, seriously like 14 or something within 20 miles of my house.
I'm bias because I work for Mackmyra but everone who has the chance should try Motorhead or the new Scorpion from brands for fans that is destilled at Mackmyra. Singel malt whisky that can hold it's own.
John Henry single malt from harvest spirts in upstate New York is one of my favorite whiskeys P.s its also a smoked whiskey partly aged in Woodford reserve barrels after they have been used for aging applejack
Speaking of NY distilleries, you guys should check out Saint Lawrence Spirits. They were awarded the New York State distillery of the year for 2019. Phenomenal whiskeys distilled right in Clayton, NY on the Saint Lawrence River. My two personal favorites are their Captain's Flask bourbon and their Rye Knot rye.
Quick up update, my friend is sending me a bottle of the Kings County Peated Bourbon. Also cool to have my question on the Blackened Episode as Metallica is my favorite band! -Eric Schultz
Hi Guys, Love the channel been watching for a while and first time commenting. I have a small mooch story and a bit of a question. Last night I was hanging with my roommates, we starting talking about whiskey and the different kinds. I used some of the knowledge I learned from your channel and shared with it with them. I ended up having sharing some of my Eagle Rare with my roommate and went over some of the notes we both get. Later on he brought his bottle of Macallan Edition No. 4 that he had and i tried that. I enjoyed it, got some toasted marshmallow and fruity notes. Now my question is, how come I can handle the Macallan No. 4 but when I try Monkey Shoulder its hard for me to get past the burn and try to find other notes besides apple? Thanks
My 23rd birthday is this monday and I didn't even realize until I looked at a calendar today. How the fuck i even stumbled across such timely and personally relatable commentary is beyond my belief. Liked.
Hi Daniel & Rex +whisky Vault , First of all i am new to your channel and i fell in love with your videos they are both funny and educational. Keep it Up! I am getting married in December 2021 and since me and my friends are avid whisky drinkers i wish to surprise them and include a special Christmas whisky blend in my whisky bar at the wedding reception, i wonder if you could do a video on whisky blending for beginners and give some pointers :) i want a sweet whisky blend that it's Christmas in a glass if that makes sense. Thanks!
I've been a little hesitant to try for all the reasons you gave, being a fan I didn't want to be disappointed. Thanks for the video.(By the way a 56 year old fan so don't worry about 40)
I've been looking for a xmas present for someone special and wanted something different. I came across one whiskey that really interested me, the Bowmore Vault Edition no 1. Could you review it, please?
Happy (belated) 19th anniversary of your 21st birthday, Daniel! My brother just got married this past Saturday. At their wedding, I raised my Whisk(e)y Tribe Juice Box full of The Balvenie Peat Week to celebrate. They dated for 7 years before finally getting married. Maybe, if anyone wants a reason to drink a little today, drink to my brother, Andrew, because he and his new wife Andrea are amazing people and I’m wishing them nothing but the best life has to offer. Cheers to the happy couple, and my new sister-in-law!
Since you reviewed the Metallica whiskey, can you review The Pogues Irish Whiskey that is sitting on the shelf behind you. If anything it comes with a story about Shane McGowan and his love of whiskey.
Hudson makes some damn good whiskey, hillrock is alright but wildly overpriced, Tommy Rotter is doing some awesome stuff with their wine finished bourbon, and probably the best New York bourbon to date: widow jane.
Jake Northrup have you tried hillrock’s single malt? One of my favorite whiskeys. I don’t hesitate to spend the $100 for it. The bourbon is alright but I could get on board saying it’s overpriced. Their rye with the Sauternes finish is also fantastic.
Happy birthday!!!(Even though u don't want wishes) lol Great video.. Being a fan of classic Metallica, I would want to try this whiskey! As usual great video, very informative but still fun! Thanks!
New York Distillery...I enjoy Cooperstown. The Cooperstown American is one of my faves. Tried it at a fest last year and loved it. Was like lemon cake!
I'm no expert but this bourbon is excellent.. On another note Iron Smoke Distilling out of Rochester, NY is really good. And I agree that Hudson Whiskey is amazing!
Hey guys! Thanks to you both I've been a little more adventurous with my whiskeys. Ive been a Makers 46 and Woodford Reserve drinker for a while and really didn't venture out to much until now. I recently was able to get my hands on Four Roses Single Barrel and I love it! I am anxiously waiting for a bottle of Writers Tears to come in as well since Irish whiskey is what got me into liquor as a young lad. Thanks again and cheers gents!🍺
Can't think of many great celebrity-endorsed whiskeys. David Beckham does a scotch, haven't tried McGregor's Proper 12 yet and I hear The Pogues (Irish/UK punk band) is drinkable coming from West Cork Distillery. They could be worth trying but I like the way Metallica have attempted to do something unique, not just the standard 40% stuff as you mention.
*Insert headbanging gif here* - Glad this got a review, I am a long time Metallica fan and would love to add a "music infused" whiskey of theirs to my collection. :D
I finally found this whiskey locally today. Huge Metallica fan. I’m very glad this is a good whiskey and really am enjoying this one and the included Metallica coin is very cool.
The beauty it took to make the intro music from two completely opposite tangents on the music spectrum to blend should make you a magnificent bastard, you Magnificent Music Bastard! ...Bravo!!!
I'm with you Rex. Everyone on this planet has a birthday. They're not special. Instead celebrate an "achievement day". This could be any date where you accomplished something important. And the date could also change. For example, the day you graduated med school. Then maybe the day you opened your practice, the day you became a level 4 whiskey sommelier etc etc.
Daniel PLEASE! If you do one thing for me ever... Listen to No Leaf Clover (from that whiskey lullabys list)! A few years ago our group of friends all did our Top 100 songs of all time list with this caveat, only one entry from any band! No Leaf Clover - number 3.
For the price point i paid for a 750ml bottle definitely not worth it. The only reason i got it was to do a pairing with my blackened cigars from drew estate.
Shouldn't the song for the intro have been... Blackened..?
Probably, but you can't throw away a chance to shout the opening to Fuel at the camera.
@@kidyuki1 Damn Right

Right on me too. It's father's Day, the kids did me proud

The bass is the best part !
