I have a 2010 IS250 AWD which I bought in 2019 (before Covid). It had 102K miles on it. Like any quality car, things don't need replacing until you get to 100K. My previous Volvo was the same way. The IS350 is considerably more money and for example, brake repairs, the IS350 has bigger and more expensive brakes. I agree with Mark that it is the better car, if you can find one within your budget with low miles. My IS250 was $12K and they gave me $3K for the Volvo, so I paid $9,000. The used car dealership paid $8,700 at the car auction. I'm the second owner and my local Lexus dealership has the records pertaining to the car before me. Nothing mechanically was fixed on it. Lexus has records of oil changes and frequent detailing. I have replaced the water pump, tensioner arm, pulleys and belt. I replaced a speed sensor. Although Lexus brags about their stainless steel exhaust, I had to have it replaced costing $3,900. Remember, it has 2 cats. I had rear brakes (rotors and pads) done and this month I''m having the rear calipers replaced. The rear calipers are known to be a weak spot for Toyota/Lexus. They rust out and stick. All of these repairs I've shared come under general maintenance. The exhaust, after multiple opinions, was a shocker. My 19 yr Volvo still had its original exhaust when I traded it. I live on the water. The previous owner lived on the water. We get snow and salt. With the low clearance I believe a pothole in Boston might've caused the exhaust damage, yet Lexus said that it was "normal" to replace the exhaust after 10 yrs. I beg to differ. My local Lexus sends all their cars to a third party for exhaust work and decided to have my local mechanic to it. It was fitted with OEM parts, nothing aftermarket.
Don't be afraid of what I shared. This is a quality car. I could sell it today and almost get double what I paid. The question then would be, what would I buy? These are not family cars, so although I found a toddler's barrette down in the backseat crease, she was in a child's seat. There is not enough room to sit comfortably in the backseat, yet, it's great when you go grocery shopping to be able to put things back there. I do not have navigation b/c it can date a car. The seats do NOT fold down, but this is more of a safety feature.
P.S. I forgot to mention that I have the original window sticker. My Lexus cost $38,800 brand new in 2010.

That’s a lot of spending. I have a 2018 Lexus IS 300 AWD fsport. I was shocked to learn I needed to replace the drive drive belt at only 47,000 miles. I’ve changed the battery at 37,000 miles. I bought the car used at 30,000 miles. And it currently has 47,700 miles on it. I’m the second owner. And the previous owner only changed the oil every 7000 miles. Your exhaust system does scare me.

    • @gwgrote5

@@nbafan3021 Thank you for commenting. You have a 2018 Lexus IS which really shares nothing with the IS's through 2013. Everything I shared would be classified as regular maintenance, since the former owner did nothing but oil changes and frequent detailing. I inherited a AAA battery and despite most people thinking they only have battery issue in the winter, I was having constant problems during the winter. The battery was still under warranty and I had my mechanic just give it a full recharge (which is what AAA wanted) and if that didn't work they would have replaced the battery. I never thought "HEAT" would be problematic to a battery.
Yes, changing your battery at 37K doesn't seem right. My last car was a Volvo with a Bosch battery and it lasted almost 10 yrs.
I'm thinking that you bought a wonderful low mile car, yet low miles (lack of use) can also be a car's detriment. I do not think you need to be worried about the exhaust system. I think you will be fine, just have your mechanic, when you do your usual oil changes, have him look the car over, including the exhaust.
I hope you get beyond 100k before you have to do major work. Again, I'll remind you that if you can get to 100K with ANY car (without major work) it is a quality car. In my parent's day, 100K the car was near death. lol but true.
Toyota/Lexus pride themselves with quality and longevity. However, if you do your homework, there a few Camry's the didn't make the mark. I always loved the Avalon, yet them too, had their problematic yrs. I guess nothing is forever, yet you did well.

@@nbafan3021 I just wanted you to know that there is a Lexus website that you can put in your VIN number and all repairs done by Lexus, anywhere,
will come up. I know this is a dumb question, but did you happen to talk them into a "Certified" purchase (gives you a much longer warranty etc.)?
I would have damended it and it's not too late. Make Lexus stand behind their product. My former car was a Volvo S70 (best car I've had) and It was Certified. I got ugly even over the clear coat peeling on a small part of the roof and it as redone. When I had my exhaust issue with the Lexus, of course Lexus service (my local dealer) said: "it was normal for a Lexus of my age 2010, to need a new exhaust. Of course Lexus will say that. However, as I mentioned, my Volvo still had the orig exhaust after 20 yrs. If i had the time and money, I would've take Lexus to court just over principle and the fact that they lie about their "strong anticorrosive stainless steel." Yes, i'm sure I would've won. I'm guessing they would have settled the eve of our court date.

I have a 2010 is350 I bought with exactly 100k miles and I've done nothing to it except oil changes (amd added the oem fsport air intake system). Mostly dealer serviced, professional, mid 40s Asian female owner. Bought it for $12,400 in early 2021. I've already planned ahead though, and bought oem parts from Bell Lexus during their 4th of July sales with an additional 17.76% off their already best oem prices, plus free shipping over $100. Ordered the fsport intake system, fsport sway bars and shift knob, denso spark plugs, transmission filter/gasket/washers, hood and trunk struts, oil filters, cabin filter, water pump, radiator cap, gas cap, etc. Basically all the stuff that will likely need replacement plus the few fsport goodies.

The fact that your is250 was an auction car is a redflag right there. Cars at auctions are generally lower quality, being repos or not selling at a dealer or car lot.

I also have the 2012 is250 with the same headlights but I noticed that the led strip is brighter when the projector lights r off during the day. When i turn on projector (second switch) the led strip dims down a bit which looks bad because you can see each bulb and not a seamless beam of light. Idk if I’m trippin but the strip definitely does dim down with the whole light set on. Is yours like this too? Try switching between the modes at night and let me know! Thank you brother.

    • @markcorpuz17

Yeah, I noticed that too lol it’s unfortunate cause, like you said, you can kind of see the individual bulbs more when the low beams are on. But, when you’re rolling, I’m sure it’s hard to tell lol

@@markcorpuz17 i just did some research and found that the 11-12 models had dimmed lights. Lexus fixed the issue on the 13 model year and to be sure i checked my buddies 2013 is350 and the led strip on that is fully bright with a seamless beam like new models. It’s so annoying to me and I’m thinking of swapping it for vlands just cus of the dated individual bulb look. There is probably a fix to this because the led strip is fully lit with no bulbs showing on the first switch with the projectors off.

    • @michaelangelo5783
      @michaelangelo5783 Год назад +1

That's normal, as the led strip are the daytime running lights and need to be brighter during the day when the headlights are not on.
