I modified a couple Lumix S lenses with oval inserts for the anamorphic look! In this video we look at some results as well as the process.

Yes! been doing this for a while now and was surprised how few people had done it! Strong recommendation in my experience is to use the rokinon AF primes (currently only for sony I think) as they are almost as easy to disassemble as the manual primes!
That's amazing! Thank you for the heads up!
Thanks for the shout out Tito, it was fun to figure out these lenses.
Very cool technique!! Also pretty awesome that your buddy at Salmo Cine works with Duclos Lenses. I had them cinevize a Zeiss Milvus EF photo lens. There work is really top notch!
A simpler alternative is to use the oval stickers from vid Atlantic, paste them at the rear element and you could be gold.
I tried them for both of these lenses and got zero results, unfortunately. I'm a big fan of those stickers, though.
2:57 I've been wanting to do that forever.
Yeah I've been using an anamorfaked 50mm Sony on my a6500 for a few years now. I haven't disassembled it though too scary and didn't need to as taping the cardstock oval infront of the lens works great! I have a lot of video and photo examples.
Infront? Not in the back of the lens?
Please.. where can I see the results?
really cool idea! I love my S series lenses too much to risk it but thanks for showing it CAN be done haha. Really cool!
Those library shots were GORGEOUS. Were those taken with the moded 35mm? I absolutely LOVE the s series. Been hunting for a similar look/feel to my sigma 28mm for YEARS.
Yeah, every shot in this video has been taken with the modified lenses (except the phone bits by Corby, clearly hahaha)!
Thanks for this video, I was wondering if it was possible on an autofocus one, you answered !
I'm gonna ask him if this type of mod could be cone on a 24-70
This looks amazing. Is the idea only primes or also auto-zoom lenses as well? One idea with an older lens: Yongnuo makes some inexpensive primes for various mounts. I like their 35mm f2 ef mount lens, has a very distinct look and allows very close subject focus (Macro .25m/.8 feet).
It works with zooms too! I just haven't had one worth modding in a while! :P The Yongnuo option seems like a good idea for cheaper AF experiments!
@@AnamorphicOnABudget btw I recently found your channel, I love it. My dream is an anamorphic auto focus with zoom :)
lol WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME, TITO?!?!? I was literally *just* looking at picking up an S5IIX from bhphoto bc they have $400 off two of those Panny S lenses (and i feel like them being on sale was maybe why you chose?), the camera, the 50 and 85 for $2500, such a bargain!
and now this?! but I've bought way too much gear lately. one day! excellent idea and vid, tho, thx!
Is this bundle still up? Was checking their site but haven't found the s5iix + 50 + 85 for $2500. That's prime day bundle level.
@@KidHaru it's actually back down to 2443 instead of 2543, the 50mm was $150 but it's back down to $50(!!!), the 85mm's OOS but you should be able to order it. plus there's a ton of other lenses that are 400 off if you're interested, but the 50 and 85 are the real deals imo
The grade on the video looks really good! You use a lut or plugin?
Thank you! Just the good old Vitamin A LUT which is not out yet.
Inspiring video! How about Sony G Master anamorphaking? Greets from Berlin!
Definitely could be done! :P
OMG!!!! amazing!
Maybe I missed it in the video. Will the videos of the modding process be shared somewhere?
They won't be shared. It's hard to follow them without full descriptions, and I don't want to mislead anyone through that.
nice idea.. but: you don't get the same horizontal and vertical aspect ratio ;-(((. 👍👍👍
You mean you don't get actual anamorphic squeeze? That's pretty obvious, friend! hahaha. It's a hack, and it works for 90% of viewers (of the content). ;)
Loved this video ... Just picked up the s5iiX. Of you could only pick one of the S lenses which one would you choose for this mod (the 35, 50 or the 85)? And do you have any suggestions for those of us who live in the US on who could help us mod this?
I'd go with the 50 or 85mm since the bokeh will be most noticeable. No suggestions in the US yet, but I'd check with Corby anyway, he might be able to suggest someone! :D
@@AnamorphicOnABudget thanks so much
may I ask. should the oval be smaller if shooting in a super 35 camera so the bokeh be good
No, the oval shouldn't change size in regards to the capture size.
@@AnamorphicOnABudget thanks for replaying, I made a streak flare with toothpick and some tape, as well and oval shape made out of paper in front of the the front element, how may I share a the setup picture with u
Will this work on viltrox lenses?
Can you tell me the name of the song at around 4:20? Is that from epidemicsound?
It's from Artlist, and the song is Ian Post - KITT Vs KARR
@@AnamorphicOnABudget thanks man!
Very good. Tito any experience mod Pentax 50 8th edition?
Thank you! I haven't touched a Pentax lens in a while, so no. :(
Nikon and Canon both have their Rf and Z adapter to put their dslr lens on their new mirrorless mount. Would it work to put a cutout in their.
It COULD achieve something, but the ideal placement for an oval insert is at the iris. :)
Maybe I’ve missed this, but what would this look like on a zoom?
It would work pretty well! I've had a few folks do it to the Tokina 28-70mm and get great results. I just haven't had a zoom worth modding in a while. :(
@@AnamorphicOnABudget TBH I would love to take one of the more compact mirrorless camera lenses with a canon m mount and have a go at it.
It’s no S5IIX, but would be really fun.
Great project. But „pumping“ bokeh circles look quite strange…
Can you elaborate on what you mean? :)
@@AnamorphicOnABudget I should have been more constructive, sorry ;-) I mean, the hunting AF leads to "moving" bokeh, and with those large bokeh circles its even more pronounced. I refer to 0:25 and 4:36 for example.
I went on the site (salmo) and my anti virus software does not like it, lol. Anybody get through ok?
That's odd! I might've messed up the link, and fixed it just now, missing the "S" in HTTPS.
@@AnamorphicOnABudget thank you!
would you leik to mod my 50mm prime?
I would not like to do that. I already have enough problems of my own! hahaha!
@@AnamorphicOnABudget well , it was worth a shot! if you dont ask you dont get , am i right ? :)
@@jimgiraffe5253 hahaha that is correct!
Anamorphic lens is not just confined to oval bokeh, it’s waste of time and waste of the lens…
And this is a waste of comment. ;)
