I used this for about 6 months and it changed my life. I couldn't keep it for budget reasons, but it was so useful and I still use what I learnt.
I'm so happy it worked for you! It's been overwhelming to start over but I'm hopeful it will give me the accountability I need!
Hair = cut
Ears = holed
Skin = cared
Books = read
Life = together
So happy to hear that you're feeling better
LOL thank you, some things did go well!
Here for Clawdia and not disappointed 🤣
Anyone else think the diet is not cat approved?
Background music: meow. Meow. Meow. 😸
I'm so early! I'm so used to Clawdia yelling at me now...
Sometimes I can't tell if it's from the video or her in real life when I'm editing XD
Clawdia has a lot to say too..at this point she deserves her own channel 😂❤❤❤
At one point I'll make shorts of her XD
I agree with Clawdia.
As you should 💅
You publish new videos always when I'm going to bed. So you're making me company while I fall asleep:)
I love hearing Clawdia. Gives Jane Eyre vibes. As in, I'm Jane Eyre, I love your videos (you're Mr. Rochester), & mournful, wailing Clawdia is the crazy wife in the attic, LOL. 😄
😂😂😂😂😂
LOL take it back! I'm not Rochester!! I'm the one that's stuck in a room XD
@@BookswithEmilyFox Is there a classic novel where the main character has to keep hiding from her cat to get any work done?
What area of your life have you been working on lately? Finishing more books/series? Any fun hobbies? Binge watching a certain tv show?
I think I'll try Buffy next as I've only seen the first episode!
Don't know if it's a fun hobby as much as something I'm doing to improve what my room looks like, but I'm currently cutting and sewing and stitching two curtains by hand 😂 I literally tied the two corners to a ladder and to a door knob (to stretch the fabric in a straight line) and I'm listening to this vlog while sewing :)
I live 90% of my life inside this one small room (bad health issues) so it makes a huge difference to have a space that feels nice and curated.
I've been trying out 2 workout classes per week to try to find one I'll like enough to stick with. Currently "Latin dance fitness" is winning.
Are curtains easy to make? I agree, they make a huge difference in a room so I'm glad you're able to make your room nicer!
Classes can be motivating for sure! Doesn't feel as much as like a workout!
Clawdia: I refuse to be silenced!!
She's can't stand closed doors!
She's a cat, you are her staff, what part of this is unclear to you? 😂
I put this video on in the background while folding laundry and I gotta say, I was kinda concerned when you said 'Life update: I bought a gun. But you guys told me, "don't do it" and I didn't do it.' 0_o
Hahahahahhaa 💀
Don’t worry not at all something I’d do but wow do I need to learn to be more precise when I speak 😂
@@BookswithEmilyFox It rocked me too!
Guys, I'm Canadian lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox it gave me a good giggle when I rewinded a bit to check what you were actually talking about xD
Maybe I'm the only one but I look forwards hearing the cats in every vid
So I shouldn’t mute her? Because I did after mentioning it or you’d have heard her the whole time 😭
I like seeing and hearing the cats too ❤
@@BookswithEmilyFox I think I'm the only one that doesn't mind hearing the cats thorough the vid😅
I don't mind!
Pro Tip on the colonoscopy prep… Get the softest toilet paper you can find 😁. Second…. Whatever they have you drink, 1) drink it through a straw 2) get that straw in the back of your mouth (essentially minimize contact with your mouth to avoid tasting it) and 3) learn how to swallow without “breathing”. What I mean there is swallow, and then let the air out your mouth instead of your nose if that makes any sense. So much of our taste is in smell. When we swallow, air comes out our nose. You want to try to avoid that. 😉 Trust me it will help! 👍
Thank you, I'm just afraid I'll puke lol I'm sure it will go well
To that, I would add getting A&D Ointment. Your bum will thank you.
My cats are very interested in Clawdia’s meows😊
Seeing you glow up and feeling more and more happy and yourself is so wonderful! I hope your life will get better and better from now on.
Cheers,
A long-time subscriber
Thank you! It’s been a rough couple of years and while I still have some bad days, every improvement leaves me more hopeful! ❤️
To access ARCs - you should contact Raincoast Books who distributes in Canada for a lot of publishers and I'm sure they'd put you on their PR lists happily! That clip of the three cats chilling on the couch was delightful. Love that the new guy is fitting in. ❤❤
Thank you I’ll look into it! I wish they liked him more (hopefully after surgery they will!) but at least they tolerate him now! They will sleep on the same couch, but not cuddle him :(
Loved the added beauty content! And don't stress about getting your life together...it's mostly a lie the lifestyle influencers sell us, especially the 'clean girl' ones. Life is meant to be messy, otherwise you're not living it. 😂❤
my cat was so confused at Clawdia meowing, she was looking for her everywhere 😂
I've had 6-8 colonoscopies in my life so far, and I want you to know that it'll be easy. The prep you drink is gross, but otherwise it's super easy, you'll be in and out and it'll be over before you know it
I felt the same way about the age of magical overthinking, except I DNFd it
I mostly finished it because it was a 6h audiobook and now I don’t feel bad being harsh in my review because I know it didn’t get better 😂
So glad you are feeling better. My 44 year old daughter was recently tenatively diagnosed with celiac so I know the struggles.
Girl colonoscopies are fine! I’ve gotten used to discussing them because my family has a colon cancer history (I had my first screening at 32) it sounds embarrassing to bring up but it’s so important!
The prep does suck- tho there have been improvements to it. (If you get a gallon jug of glorified salt water to drink I’d try and see if they other options that one is particularly awful)
But the procedure is easy and millenials should be getting colonoscopies before their 50s because colon cancer is rising in our generation. And part of encouraging people to get checked is to lessen the stigma about having to get one. Taking care of your health is never embarrassing ❤❤❤
Oh I'm not embarrassed to talk about it. I'm mostly dreading purposely giving myself diarrhea when I already have that issue XD
I'm glad it's happening but I'll be happier after lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox oh god yeah the prep day isn’t fun 😂 and i definitely can’t drink certain flavors of Gatorade anymore because of it. Worth it in the long though obviously.
@Bookswithemilyfox My mom had hers relatively recently this year and she said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. It seems to me from what I've heard from her that the prep is kind of the worst part. Idk what it's like in Canada but here you can pay extra to have anesthesia? Supposedly it's not advisable because it's better to be awake for the procedure? Idk, I'm not a doctor.
Wishing you well and to power through ❤
I'm pretty sure they'll put me out. They better lol And yes it will be free.
I'm mostly dreading the prep. Since I have issues with my blood sugar the liquid diet portion will be a pain too :/
I'll be glad when it's all over
@@bookishbgg omg anesthesia was optional?! That sounds awful lol. I was put under and very grateful for it. Mine was preventative so thankfully my insurance covered it. But that’s so alarming they can charge you more for it just because they can 😵💫
Meow....
Clawdia says hi!
I was diagnosed with celiac a couple of years ago at 35. I also had to start building back muscle after my body started to heal.
I can’t wait to feel better and gain it back!
Emily, even before starting the video I have to say that I just finished I who have never known men - I'm still crying and it's your fault 🤧
I’m happy you’ve read it, less happy you’re crying lol I hope you enjoyed it!
@@BookswithEmilyFox I did really enjoy it, thanks!
I just picked up "Normal Women: 900 years of making history" by Philippa mcgregory which is a nonfiction about 900 years of invisible labor that women did in britain.
And Rebel Girl" by Kathleen Hanna which is a memoir of a random musician I never heard of but it sounded interesting.
@@zachreads I really liked Normal Women! Lots of things there that I had no idea about before, makes you see some things in a new light for sure.
If you haven’t read them yet: Sapiens and Homo Deux!! I love his writing style and Sapiens I couldn’t put down; I hasn’t started the other yet 😅.
And I HATED the Age of Magical Thinking. Wordslut and Cultish were good but third time was definitely not a charm!
It felt like a money grab :/
I've only tried the first one and the 21 lessons.... which turned me off him. It was 21 chapters and there were randoms ones about religion in the middle. I've yet to try Homo Deus
@@BookswithEmilyFox Harari writes confidently without good science behind it. Some of the science is downright bad. There are good articles online critiquing his work. Personally I'd not waste my time reading his books. If I had then I'd trash them.
My daughter, who has a kitten, was watching with me and would crack up every time Clawdia made herself known. #clawdiafans
I totally agree with you about "The age of Magical Overthinking".
Looove the video❤ love the vlog, love the lifestyle vibes, love the beauty stuff, love the cats (how big they are) ❤🎉
Please make more videos like this. I'm so happy to hear you're doing better and awaiting your return to beauty channel eagerly❤
Also, I also love watching the favorites 🎉😊❤ everyone, yours of course too
I bought the same toner today, after your video😊

I was diagnosed with celiac disease after around 2 years of doctors telling me it was everything else 🙃 I was so malnourished and ill. I'm so glad you got a diagnosis and can now rebuild. Also, don't worry about the colonoscopy. It's really quick and over before you know it. 💛
Skincare ❤ cats ❤ books ❤ what to say more
Oh dear, Clawdia is desperate!
maybe you'd like the la roche posay gel version better? it has glycerin instead of dimethicone. the dimethicone is what gives the baume that unpleasant texture.
I tried a few of their moisturizer and I can't remember which one is the one I liked XD
As I was putting my earrings on this morning I wondered if you had done anything about your ears. Idk if it's still recommended to turn your earrings a bit every day or not. You might want to look into that, it used to help. 🤷♀️ just checked: apparently not and should be avoided 🤷♀️
you get different advice everywhere you go. i got my doubles pierced recently, and they said to wash them 3 times daily with antibacterial soap. when my sister got hers done, they said don't do anything and do not touch them. so idk lol
i loooove this vlogs!!
Loved the skincare part! What shampoo/conditioner do you like? Your hair also looks so nice ❤
Thank you! My current routine:
I double cleanse my hair with Head & Shoulder Shampoo (amzn.to/3ZKOnCM) then the L'Oreal Shampoo (amzn.to/3BpJOn4), then either the conditioner from the same line or once a week use a mask. I've been trying the Eva NYC (same as the leave in cream!) amzn.to/3TOplyH since I liked that a lot.
I also love the Marc Anthony Coconut Milk Shampoo but it's really hard to find in that specific formula (amzn.to/3Y2sY6J) and this is my most repurchased hair mask: Macadamia Deep Repair Mask (amzn.to/4eyKgOe)
love to see you reviewing more nonfiction!! not enough booktubers do
I've been going back and forth but I think I'm back for a lil while lol
I’m so incredibly happy you’re talking about beauty more! I come from following your beauty channel for years and then your book channel, miss you over the beauty one. 🫶🏼😊
You are doing such a great job! Sometimes it's easy to forget how much you already did. Living with chronic illness always means that some days or weeks will be not as “productive” as we want them to be. But you worked out, read the books and pierced your ears. This is awesome!
this was so cozy 💗 i finished the spellshop a few hours ago and loved it! i think a spoiler vlog would be really fun for that one when your hold comes in because it's so popular
I never look forward to appointments neither and i always get nervous and anxious too 🍃📚📚📚📚🍁🍁📚💛💛📙🤎🎃🎃📖🖤🍃📚👻👻📚📚🍃🍃🖤🖤🖤🍁📚📚🍂🤎🎃📖📖🖤🍃📚👻💛💛📚🍃🖤🖤🍁💛💛📙🤎📚📚📚🍁🍁🍁👻🍃🍃📚🍁🍁🍃📚📖📖💛🤎📙📙🖤🖤👻🍃📚📖🍂🍂🍂🍂📖🍁📚🍃
All of Amanda Montell's stuff is clickbait, but with Age of Magical Overthinking it felt like she was trying too hard to be Joan Didion.
Executive disjunction - that is what I’ve been having all these years😂😂😂😂
I was really looking forward to An Academy for Liars and it was disappointing. It really should have been marketed as YA. The storyline is kinda interesting but predictable, but the romance is really bad imo.
Have you seen the new book from youtuber Lucy Jane Wood? It's an autumn vibes witchy book called Rewitched. Would be interested in seeing your thoughts on
I also have been unable to finish my 4 audiobooks.. it’s challenging
I come for the books, cats, and life updates. 📚🐈⬛👂🏼🏥
I recommend Carceral capitalism by Jackie Wang about the link between racism, capitalism and the U.S Carceral system but it's an essay that requires concentration because it refers to several works and theories in social science. It's well documented and the chapters are short so it's best not to string them together.
Thanks for this video !
Glad to see that things are going well in your life ❤
I just finished the Spellshop and it's exactly what you'd expect it to be, which for me meant a solid four star rating but it didn't leave me awestruck or anything. Still a safe choice and a book that feels (maybe a bit too much) like a warm hug.
For your colonoscopy, you must listen to the Ologies episode to prepare. Aly Ward had a colonoscopy last year and she made a special podcast episode to prepare people for theirs, all the before and after the procedure. Good luck! 👍
I’m loving the vibes! Chit chatty, get our lives together, skincare, life updates, cats-so cozy so wholesome!
I know there’s a lot of books in this video but speaking on The Mountain Is You, oh giiiirl I was so excited for it when it came out and then I read it- the whole book was recycled generic material, nothing new and no originality, such a let down
The way you pierced your ears again is literally how I do it every time I don't wear earrings for a while. And yeah don't put anything that is not medicinal metal or silver/gold until they heal.
My grandma used Nivea and her face and hands were always extremely soft.
I know almost nothing about skincare and even less about makeup because I just never got into it. Although I did dabble a little with basic brown tone eyeshadow, mascara, some concealer under the eyes and on spots and I liked putting on some red or dark lipstick when I'd go out to party. I think I wore makeup like that a couple of times and it would actually boost my confidence. I think a youtuber I watched and liked her makeup filmed her beauty routine and so I learned to apply eyeshadow with 3 tones. (Almost white in the inner corner of the eye, then creme and gradually a brown just under my eyebrow arch which is positioned above my iris. But I can't find the eyeshadow palette I used to use, I don't think it's made anymore.) I love the way black eyeliner looks but I can't apply that because I'm really grossed out by eyes, it's almost like a phobia.
But I always felt I looked ridiculous when I would try to put foundation on and would always take it off before leaving the house and especially during the day. Maybe it's because I'm so used to the way my skin looks without anything? Because one time a friend who really loved makeup did my makeup for me at a sleepover and I kind of liked it but also didn't.
Idk, but I learned something new today. Did I get it right, is it occlusive?
I'd watch segments about both skincare and makeup, especially if they contain some tips or new to me information. Which isn't really hard to achieve because I know almost nothing. Like, what the heck is a tonic and should I use it? Why does my skin burn whenever I try to use cleansers once or twice a day? And I go for the ones that say are for sensitive skin...Why can't I ever get rid of blackheads on my nose even tho I tried those strips multiple times? Is my skin oily or dry or both??? Why do I come across contradictory information whenever I try to google skincare??? Idk 😂 But yeah, I'm not expecting you to answer my questions but I am *lost*😅
I do miss you're old choppy editing style with the really abrupt cuts LOL
I wasn't expecting to see Defekt in this video! I really liked that book but I wish it was a full length novel.
From your nonfiction shelves, idk if you've read The Soul of An Octopus, but that definitely leans memoir but you do get some interesting facts about Octopuses and ocean science, but also very much about how her life and career have revolved around them. I liked it because it wasn't too technical and I found it to be an easy read for a nonfiction, but if memoirs aren't your thing then I'm not sure you'd give it more than a three star.
We just finished bedtime when I turned this on so I was definitely doing ‘her cat or my kid’ while watching. 🤣
I had a colonoscopy many years ago. The liquid diet isn’t bad but the liquid that cleans you out isn’t great. I’ll be due for another one in a few years.
Annual bones rewatch !
I love working on Latch hook rugs for hoursss except my cat wants to eat the string or the mat. (The pictures are freaking hilarious though).
I once used the huge Nivea cream at my girlfriend’s grandmother’s house because I had forgotten to bring my skincare and this was the one she was using and my skin had never looked this good! I have sensitive and extremely dehydrated skin that tends to be red and itchy and this is a life saver!!
Spellshop is so good!!
I haven’t heard one bad review so far! I’m so excited for it
Clawdia definitely got my foster kittens going.
turned this video on while i was preparing my cats food so i couldn’t tell if it was claudia or my cats meowing in the beginning 😂
I have poked open closed piercings several times haha. Its fiiiine xD
oh my goodness, poor kitty , you did your best ignoring her lolol. loving this series, gives me motivation to make my own attempts at getting my life together
Loved this, especially the skincare part! ❤
Wow, that’s the first time ever I heard Claudia. 😂 She’s relentless. I have a at who’s like that too.
Clawdia 😹 she knows her fans need to see her ( my tuxedo kitty is also yells when the door is closed )
Love “C-loud-ia”😂😂 love this mix of vlog
I really miss your beauty page so I'm so happy you're adding those bits n bobs into this one 🥰
I enjoy the lifestyle stuff that you have thrown in in the last two (?) videos 😊
I love hearing Clawdia ❤
The screams make me laugh every time lol
I am so here for Witch!Emily haha.
Clawdia for president
Clawdia = everything. And apart from your awesome videos, what lipstick are you wearing: LOVE IT! 🥰
It's the Maybelline lip pencil in be bold be you (amzn.to/4eKVBuL) I love that formula!
Would you consider starting your beauty channel again one day, Emily? Your Mac swatch videos were my ultimate lipstick watch.
Absolutely! I'm waiting until I'm feeling 100% since it's a lot of work and when I come back, I want to come back. Not post a few then disappear again.
im loving the reading and life/beauty vlogs! please keep up and i hope you'll feel better with the days sz
and pleeeeeease, dont mute clawdia/the cats
I believe you would love The spellshop. Although there's nothing new or revolutionary about it. Just your very average similar to Legends and latte (done better in this book) type of cozy fantasy. Made me giggle a few times though.
The library waiting list says 3 more weeks!
Wait…I thought that particular Nivea was body lotion?!
LOL oh well
I think you can use it for both lol
29:35 I thought that's a self-help book so I really wanted to read that, but it's a memoir?? Now I am mad >:c
It really felt like a bait and switch and a money grab :/
So nice to hear that you're feeling much better! I also liked the skincare section. Paula's Choice BHA products are so good, and I've been trying to get a little more into K-beauty.
I’m the opposite! I love k-beauty, but I’ve only started trying Paul’s choice products!
Hah! Good luck with 'getting your life together.' In my ample decades of life, I've not found the trick to that. What I have found is to simply 'go with it' -- i.e. don't sweat not 'having it all together' . You make a lovely Morticia. Edit: Oh, and yes, the infamous pile of shame. :)
I don’t think I’ll ever make it, and I have it all together but I can attempt to improve little bit 😂
I just want to say, I've read They Never Learn because I've had it and your mention of it in a video was the needed impulse to read it. I feel like you'd love it, but be really mad while reading. 👀
Oh oh lol I'm curious now
I love this vlog 🥹 thank you for illuminating my Saturday!
I feel you for the ears! When i was 15, i wanted a third piercing, so i just picked the needle of a pin my mom used to wear and punch a hole 😂 i got a little infection and i still has a scar on my ear but when i tell this story, i feel so powerful 😂 also, now and then, when I wear earrings, i always have to push through because skin is covering the hole and it makes a sound like "pop" and my husband is so traumatized everytime I put on earrings! 😂😂
Lol women are fearless 😂❤️
Maybe I'll brave through the smell and try the Nivea
I got used to it pretty quickly!
thank you for the skin care routine. It was very satisfying to watch for some reason😅
I'll definitely do more since I've mostly figured out my setup. I missed it so much!
We're using the same isntree cream! Their spf is my fav also
Big agree on the memoir thing. I only read memoirs/autobiographies from musicians, actresses etc. I like 😅
That lipstick is majestic on you
Thank you!
Vlog for The Appeal maybe? 😊
I’ll include it in the next one!
Totally agree on The age of magical overthinking. What was that book?
I think she is a pretty chaotic author and in that book that definitely came out a lot.
Honestly it felt like her publisher were pushing for another book and she had no idea what to do and just rushed to put together essays that were barely related and slapped a misleading title on it :/
@@BookswithEmilyFox oh yeah totally possible. Such a shame
Everyone writing Clawdia am i missing something? i thought it was Claudia 😭
It's Clawdia lol
happy for you, emily! it’s also my *magical* year of getting my life back together and you’re inspiring me. 🫶
I have personal beef with Amanda Montell because why the hell do the titles of her books not match the content ?! « Cultish: the language of fanaticism » had NOTHING to do with language, linguistics or cults! and « The age of magical overthinking: notes on modern irrationality » was a MEMOIR but never was advertised as such?! who is managing her and what do they keep doing this
