I have never seen a better explanation. thorough knowledge. No cute stuff. Thank You. I agree with the guy that said you deserve an award. Yes the long story please.
Keep doing what you’re doing Dan. One of the best diagnostic videos I’ve seen so far and a great help for me as I have a 02 f350 7.3 crew. Keep you the great work. 👍🏻
RE: DIELECTRIC GREASE: God forbid I would ever try to tell a mechanic he is perhaps not operating on the best practices of his trade, but I would like to bring to your attention a common misconception with regard the use of dielectric grease. The grease is not intended for use within the socket connector, the grease should be applied externally to the body seam of the plug after it has been properly assembled. Dielectric grease is a sealer. A common misconception is that the grease is applied in the connector itself. Now in older equipment this misuse of the product usually doesn't create issues (although it certainly can), in modern digital micro voltage circuity the resistance created by the grease can be the difference between a reference signal being recognized or being ignored. Dielectric grease, counter to common myth, is not a conductor. But hey! great video, great information. Thanks.
Your right. My boss started using that dielectric grease on his snowplow socket connectors. Thinking back we were always playing in those sockets trying to get them to work. I would look inside them and say replace it. Its a slimy mess. So true
My brother who is very good at this work has been trying to walk/talk me through a similar problem I have with break /turn light issues on a Dodge 92 350 van. The problems are similar enough that watching this video helps me understand what he's trying to tell me. Very helpful and very appreciated! 😊
Thanks dan ivw watched two men working ont his signal light issue for a week or so and they couldnt find the problem. So i watched your video took notes went outside after they left and had it fixed within a half hour.. thanx for showing them that girls can work on stuff to when u have been tutored
Awesome video I love the way he's in-depth with everything he does. Plus I have an oversight of other things now with his schematics. Thank you very much
GREAT VIDEO, Very methodical and well laid out procedure for diagnosing the problem. This can be used for ANY vehicle not just the Ford you worked on. Appreciate the approach and the step by step procedure.
Thank you for the time you took to make this video, it helps me to fix the same problem in my truck. I have a 2001 super duty, both lights left and right did not work, I change the flasher, the multi switch, nothing work, but watching your video help me to track the problem. thank you.
I also have a 2002 f250 same issue left turn signal. I'm going to give it a shot. I appreciate your time and effort you put into this video. I'm sure you saved me $400 to $500 on repairs from a mechanic. God bless brother
Wow! Great video! Thank you so much!!! 🥰 Your video taught me everything I needed to know to diagnose and fix my problem myself! 😳😁 There's no telling how much money you just saved me. You are a very good teacher and explain everything clearly and directly. Again, thank you so much! I look forward to watching more videos! 😁👍
I really appreciate the thoroughness of this video and showing us how to effectively trace a circuit and eliminate known good portions of a circuit. Others suggest taking older junk wiring harnesses with sockets for various bulbs, from high current demand to low demand, and make appropriate one bulb test connectors to quickly check the amount of current getting to the test point, especially when the typical voltage meter only reads voltage, not amperage, during a basic circuit test. On vehicles with airbags, Ford recommends disconnecting both battery terminals, and waiting at least 2 minutes for residual current to drain out, before doing any electrical testing that could conceivably set off an airbag, such as when testing the multifunction switch. For what it's worth, I use the strong version of De-Oxit contact cleaner spray to clean corroded connectors, grounding points, terminals, etc., and dielectric grease to protect the contact surfaces from corrosion. (Ford calls its product "electric grease," but the major brands of contact lube [i.e. dielectric grease] are usually the same product made in the same place by NyeLube, if you dig deep enough into safety data sheets.) Those of us faced with crimping female terminals that have spread and spreading the male terminals to get a better fit would enjoy seeing bonus footage on that part of the process to see how that is done without destroying the connector. Thanks again for a great video. P.S. I assume you know that "DiagnoseDan" is the name of a regular RUclips channel, and hope that your title doesn't create any issues for you.
Awesome video. Very thorough and informative. I have the same issue with the same exact truck. This video will help me solve the problem for sure. Thank you!!
Hi Dan I am so glad i found you on you tube you do amazing job breaking thing down to understand thank you thank you i am working on a 2012 F 550 6.7 diesel i am having trouble with the right turn signal & no brake light , this will help me . & thank you again . Ken
this is a great video. You actually know what your talking about in depth. So many are, like you said, just to change a flasher or a bulb.. Waste of my time. This is informative!! Good job.
Great video! I'm very inexperienced, but trying to learn. I have a Colorado where my brake lights work, but the rear blinkers do not work, and it's on both sides. makes me automatically think that it's unlikely that both bulbs are bad. I also get fast blinkers flashing on the dash. I guess I need to get my wiring diagram.
Not a mechanic and don't have these tool's but appreciate the detail. I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM GT where My Emergency flashers work and sometimes my turn signals work but mostly not. They were fixed already once and worked for about a year then not for 6 months then came back for maybe 6 months then stopped and worked intermittent and as time went on less and less. Don't know if they are connected but My trunk light wiring is now totally broken in half.
Very good and interesting video. I just began to watch your videos and I appreciate your efforts for giving us god info.... Thanks for your time and help!
Great Job, " Dan I have a 02 firebird All my lights are working, my turn signal lights works All my bulbs work except my breaklight doesn't work & my hazzard flasher doesn't work i bought a new breaklight switch & new flasher relays still the same outcome what else do i have to do???
19:41 the best part of this job ( big smile 😁) we didn't have to spend any money in parts, yet his time is charged on gold and diamonds 😁 just jocking Thank you for the great video !!
Great job mate. You may have put me on to solving my no brake lights and dim lights on turn and 4 way hazard lights when the Headlight Switch is turned on. Any other suggestions?
I am assuming it is the same process for the brake lights. I just purchased one and like a dummy didn't check lights before. Get home and I have no rear lights, we had running lights with the headlights. After checking fuses I got the turn signals back, but I still have no brake lights at all, in rear or on rear cab. I also don't have reverse lights. I did replace the pedal switch in hopes it would fix the problem. The previous owner had spliced a trailer harness into the actual light assembly instead of under the truck. I disconnected it thinking that was my issue with no results. I unfortunately do not have an owners manual. I am still without lights. It is the 99 f250 5.4 power stroke. I've not been good with multi meters, but I know the bulbs work due to running lights and blinkers working fine. I have also chased the harness rear to front finding no breaks where it was spliced elsewhere. I will try what you have done and hopefully I will find my problem.
great vid i have a great question what if your brake lights stay on i have a 2000 blazer where would you go first ok i replaced my brake switch my mulifunction switch and if i take out my lt tun fuse and the rt turn fuse they go out any help would be great
You can go stand right in front of a class Daniel! Well, you actually do, standing in front of us viewers! Keep it going! I'm a IT guy btw, no automotive technician. I can be a car tech with a lot of help of your vids!
Having trouble with e250 06 van brakes lights don't turn on. Fuses good brake pedal switch is good light bulbs are good relay work and am going crazy. Enjoy your video. I'd like to see more if your work. Id like to know how can i get wiring diagrams
My 2004 F350 was blowing turn signals and hazards when signaling right or hazards. After crawling around and contorting my arm in directions that aren’t humanly possible I replaced the relay. Still no joy. So I replaced the multi switch in the steering column but it still blew the fuse until I “loosened” up the wiring where the multi switch connector plugs into the multi switch.
Hi Dan, I enjoyed your video. Very detail and to the point. I have a 2010 Ford Expedition that I is having a some what similar issue. Both of my rear brake lights and the turn signal are not working. The front signal lights work fine. I was wondering if you ever had a vehicle with both rear brake and signal not working? (All fuses and wiring seem to be fine). Appreciate your help. Thanks Nadeem
I got a 1991 Ford F150 4.9l crank no start (fuel pumps not on). After spending a lot of time with a volt meter I'm definitely getting the wiring diagram. The Haynes manual is good but it's good to spend the money on a complete wiring diagram for projects like this you'll save time and money.
having the same issue on my f150 on driverside rear , left signal not working and brake light on left side aswell, fuses tested good and wish i saw this video before cause i changed the multi switch and that didnt work no body module codes either just for fun i checked that as well.. going to check connectors next
I have a 1994 Explorer, 165k miles. Never a problem, so I am keepin it Until last month. Another driver said, "No brake lights" I replaced the stop switch. Lights worked 2 days. Took it to mech. he replaced the switch. It worked 1 1/2 weeks. Anysuggestions?
I have a 2004 S10 Crew Cab and my right turn signal only works when it rains sometimes. I will have to go and check, I'll try and use this as an example of what direction I need to go to, minding that these are two different trucks
Where did you get the wiring diagram, I have a 2006 Super Duty an need the fuel gauge wiring. An the location of all grounds, searched google an bought a Hanes an Chilton an their diagrams are in complete
I would have liked you to define the cause for the arcing and a permanent solution for that cause. Otherwise what is to prevent another occurrence? Was the connector a weatherpack type or some less protected type of connector? Other than that I appreciate you doing this type of video and would like to see more of them.
Dan love your vids. I am seeking your professional advice. I want to buy a 4x4 Ford ranger and my question is if I take out the rear drive shaft and use the front wheel drive for norman driving will I get abnormal wear with the front wheel drive by doing this?
Engaging 4x4 introduces torque steer. Fuel ecconomy may suffer depending on any gear ratio difference, front axle vs. rear. Why convert a truck to front wheel drive?
I am no mechanic, but I try to wing it... Rear turn signals and brake lights not working. Bulbs and fuses are ok,front turn signals are blinking fast?? Ideas?? 2001 F350 diesel 7.3 Would the multi function switch affect the brake lights?
So, about those wiring diagram subscriptions.... I can't find anything through either alldata or Mitchel. They seem to be oriented towards shops. Any suggestions? Looking specifically for 1996 e150.
Do you have a video on the BCM for Ford F150? I have replaced my bulbs on the front Left turn signal twice and had no problems up to 3-6 months. Now, when the engine is off the turn signal works with lights on. Will work with engine on and lights off but won't work with lights and engine on. I have switchback Amber and white turn signal LED lights.
My 2011 f150 xlt 4x4 has black led's on rear and drivers side signal and brake light quit and driver front hyperflashes. Tried new resistors, put original rear lights back in, put new led in and all same thing. The bcm needed cleared, that was it, auto zones didn't see or clear it, Ford told me I was nuts, a local electrician said I was nuts to but walked out n tried it and said well I be danged, it worked. 1 minute repair, 2 months ofaggravation.of aggravation. Presently looking for a coder scanner now since changing a bulb can give you a bcm fault and has to be cleared.
@@nimrodpaul6875 I had to put my original bulbs back in to pass out of province vehicle inspection because I had changed the front back to original because the front turn signal wasn't working properly. Then once I did that, the back went on the fritz so I had to put back original bulbs in the rear.
Very well explained thank you I will taking my truck to my friendly auto Mech . To much for me to take on for my problem . No 3rd break light or cargo light on my 08 f 350 Def think it’s a connector or wire problem . From a Retired construction trades electrician I know I’m beat other then fuse & relay check
damn a youtube channel that speaks truth without a stupid accent or a busty chick or a dog and poney show on the side ,DAMN , I am ammazed. being a shop owner for 43 years and now retired with a shot back(duhhh)for 7 years starving on SS, I WAS AN L1 master tech, which dont mean diddly specializing in electrical, hvac and emmisions repair. I prided myself on doing what you just did and teaching my techs to do the same. As an independent I TRIED TO PROVE TO THE PUBLIC THAT NOT ALL MECHANICS ARE CROOKS, AMEN? EVERY DAY. My promise to my customers was.."I will not sell you one part you dont need' the end result is living in pain and poverty in my golden years. Advice to you guys doing what I DID AND THIS GUY IS DOING. dONT SELL YOURSELF SHORT. Charge a fair price plus a little bit for your honesty and put that in a 401k or equilvant. the customer is still better off and getting a bargain compared to any other place he can take his negleccted junk, right? I promised my techs 3 things...1.. I WOULD TEACH THEM.1 HOW NOT TO HURT YOURSELF 2 HOW TO STAY CLEAN AND FINALLY AN ITSY BITSY TINEY WEANER BIT OF PATIENCE. God bless youall Doc Rick
it's a ford.... around that age, the wires tend to break anywhere and everywhere bent beyond 10-degree radius(inside middle of harness/rub point), water/salt leaks past connector seals and corrodes the wires off. also the wire coating shrunk back from heat cycling and running hot (mid 80's).
good job, finding voltage with a digital meter can be very deceiving. I would have confirmed no current with the headlamp test. you kinda left the possibility that the bulb and socket were bad.
When he checked voltage at rear turn signal he got a reading of 11.61 rather than 12.6. on the voltmeter. Wouldn't that indicate that he had corrosion somewhere in the circuit?
My turn signals and brake light quit working today. Hazards work just fine. I think its just the fuse in position 18! Guess I'll have to figure out why it went (if it's just the fuse)
I have a problem with my f350. My brake lights and turn signals work but my tail/running lights don’t. My dash lights and running lights all went out at the same time. I fixed the dash lights with a fuse, but I can not figure out why the rear running lights won’t work.
I have a 2016 silverado, For those of you with these symptoms I’m going to post, check fuse for BCM (4,5,6&7). Symptom(s) 1. Turn signal not working 2. Interior dome lamp doesn’t come on when opening the door 3. Able to shift gears without pressing brake
My 08 super duty is acting weird both signals in front and rear are working, but when I apply the brakes when I flip my turn signal on both signals work, but aren't illuminating properly, and blinks fast.
Hey so i have a 2006 f250 gas 5.4 that turn signal and hazards do not work at all and symbol does not come on in dash any ideas? I already tried replacing the relay
can you do a video about finding out if it’s my window master switch or window motor on a excursion is bad lol keep up the great videos can’t wait for the next one.
My 2002 Ford Ranger rear brake light is not working, but the third light works. Change out the brake switch, check the fuse box, and check the bulbs. Nothing
What do you guys think of this longer, but more in depth diagnostic video? Would you like to see more of these?
More please!
Post anything and I’ll watch brotha 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Good! Moooore!
Awesome :) But the RUclips Series Diagnosing Dan is already in use lol :P
Definitely!
Wow, I'm extremely impressed. Guy could explain literally anything to anyone. You deserve an award for your service sir.
This video is absolutely incredible. You clearly explain the trouble shooting process and show how to read the vehicle diagrams. Thank you!
I have never seen a better explanation. thorough knowledge. No cute stuff. Thank You. I agree with the guy that said you deserve an award. Yes the long story please.
You are great! The "Missing Link" between man and machine. Absolutely perfect discussion.

Hey Johnyisfunny did you find and fix your problem ?
Very good diagnosis review.. That would have stumped a lot of shops.
I enjoy most everything you do, Daniel. From a very long time viewer.
Thanks for the educational information to purchase the diagram resources. I'm very new to all of this and I'm trying to diagnose my issues.
Thanks Dan this was great my truck had this problem. Now I see how to go about fixing it. Fingers crossed. Nice job explaining the troubleshooting.

@@nimrodpaul6875 I am thinking that is the quickest and easiest ..Can't you just unhook the battery cables and let it sit for a while to clear them?
Very well explained thank you
I will taking my truck to my friendly auto Mech . To much for me to take on for my problem . No 3rd break light or cargo light on my 08 f 350

damn a youtube channel that speaks truth without a stupid accent or a busty chick or a dog and poney show on the side ,DAMN , I am ammazed. being a shop owner for 43 years and now retired with a shot back(duhhh)for 7 years starving on SS, I WAS AN L1 master tech, which dont mean diddly specializing in electrical, hvac and emmisions repair.
Great video
it's a ford.... around that age, the wires tend to break anywhere and everywhere bent beyond 10-degree radius(inside middle of harness/rub point), water/salt leaks past connector seals and corrodes the wires off. also the wire coating shrunk back from heat cycling and running hot (mid 80's).
good job, finding voltage with a digital meter can be very deceiving.
My blinkers work until the break is applied then the blinkers blink fast.
Ideas?
I have a problem with my f350. My brake lights and turn signals work but my tail/running lights don’t. My dash lights and running lights all went out at the same time. I fixed the dash lights with a fuse, but I can not figure out why the rear running lights won’t work.
I have a 2016 silverado, For those of you with these symptoms I’m going to post, check fuse for BCM (4,5,6&7).
Symptom(s)
1. Turn signal not working
2. Interior dome lamp doesn’t come on when opening the door
When are the links you used for the wiring diagram?
awesome thank you!
how do you run fused 12v from your multimeter lead to test the pins?
Excellent
can you do a video about finding out if it’s my window master switch or window motor on a excursion is bad lol keep up the great videos can’t wait for the next one.
Garlic Bread well, if I happen to have a power window problem in the Excursion, you can bet I’ll be making a video of the repair!
thanks i appreciate it. i surely wouldn’t mind paying you to fix it either.

My 2002 Ford Ranger rear brake light is not working, but the third light works. Change out the brake switch, check the fuse box, and check the bulbs. Nothing
