Let me start by saying I am white guy from Chicago. Let me also say my cooking skills are average at best (though I have dreams!). I just got done making this tonight and it turned out AMAZING! I followed the instructions and ingredients to the letter (except I did 2lbs instead of four so just cut everything in half). Honestly it was so good I couldn't believe it was something I made. Thank you so much such an amazing recipe and instruction!
Just made this but 1/2 there recipe, made 5 smaller rolls, turned out so so good, but I use banana leafs instead to wrap, and used store bought ground pork. Also i deep fried 3 of the rolls, amazing too (I deep fried after it was steamed), thank you much for the recipe
Thank you for this recipe and thanks to you’re sweet mother in law! I love Cha Lua and finally found a reliable place to buy it online. But I have some pork loin in my freezer and am looking forward to making my own.
Since I was young, Aunt Linh has always given my family and I delicious Cha Lua/Gio Lua whenever she made extras because she's always been gracious and giving. Thank you so much for sharing her recipe and of course Happy Birthday Auntie Linh!

Nice meeting you, Maggie. Thank you for sharing. I like to wish yr mother-in-law a belated “ Happy Birthday” . I have a request, can she make bouncy beef ball? Appreciate if she show me how? Maggie I am enjoying yr easy, n less dishes to clean recipes especially Asian/Chinese. I hope you n yr mother-in-law keep up the good work. Thank you, take care n be safe.
I learned my ABCs in Guangzhou at the age of 4, learned Chinese In San Francisco in secondary school, and during the pandemic learned to speak Mandarin better than my folks
Is the key to make it bouncy and chewy is blended it cold/frozen as the second blending? Is it necessary to freeze the meat in the first blending? Thank you so much for this recipe.
@@rackoflamMy dad's born in Taiwan then grew up Vietnam and mom also Cantonese Chinese grew up in Vietnam. They met got married, had me and my sis in Hong Kong then emigrated here. How about yours?
I'm wondering if it's possible to steam them in the Instant Pot instead to speed up the cooking process. If so, would you have an idea as to how many minutes? Thanks & great video!
Thank you! I have seen recipes where the ham are steamed so I would assume that steaming in the IP would work as well, but I have never tried it. My guess is steaming at 30 minutes should be sufficient, but take that with a grain of salt! Lol. Please let me know how it goes so I can try it as well!
@@rackoflam I made your Mother-in-law's recipe today. I used a ham maker sold on amazon..lined it with banana leaves..bigger than store-bought cha lua, perfectly round cylinder-shaped..it was perfect thanks to your her recipe.
I really like your mom the way she making the food. I can’t wait and I made it. But wasn’t taste enough favors and very dry. Also after 6 hours in freezer, thaw one hour in room temperature and the meat still too hard for grind. ☹️☹️ I think should use 20% fat and let the meat tastes more juicy……
I’m sorry you did not enjoy her recipe! It is possible that the temperature to your freezer is set to be colder, hence it was still too hard to grind after thawing. Hopefully after some tweaking you will find what works for you!

Mine didn't come out chewy like the store-bought kind. What do you suggest to make it better?
Can I use regular baking powder?
@@miacasey-pare4210 yes they should work!
