      I run front projection. The spandex screen has a seam that you hardly notice. Rear projection exposes the seam more so. The pvc screen has no seam but is wrinkled. I prefer the spandex screen.

    I plan on having a backyard theater with a screen that big. The bad part is that our yard is a hill, and it would cost more just for the platform to keep the projector screen flat. My alternative would be 2 poles holding the screen straight up and may cost less. I'm not sure how big my projector can go, but it's rated at 5400 lumens, and it's for businesses and venues. Is there a way to measure out the size your projector can go before making a move on projector screen size?

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  Год назад +1

      Your lumens are more then enough for the 33ft screen. Yes you can use a projector calculator to figure out the best distance from the screen and if the projector is bight enough. 19fl of brightness at the screen is the standard for excellent brightness in the dark. www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm
      In the calculator the aspect ratio for the screen is 16:10 and the horizontal measurement of the screen is about 22ft.
      The hill is a challenge and I’m not sure what the options are without seeing it. The screen though would have to have a flat and level surface.

    What kind of projector do you use with this and is the video quality clear? I am wanting to get one for our outdoor movie nights but don't want to sacrifice viewing quality for a larger sized screen.

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  2 года назад +1

      Hey Brent link to the projector that I use is in the description. At the end of the video there are still shots that give a pretty good representation of the video quality. I would say the video quality is excellent for an outdoor set up. It’s always hard to get a true lumen rating from manufacturers as they inflate their numbers but anything over 4500 lm would light up the screen nice and bright. My projector that I’m using is around 5000 lm.

    Nice setup! We've been running a 20' Khomo Gear for the last couple summers, but watching your setup has me thinking about upgrading our screen. Not sure if you have ever thought about upgrading your speaker setup but I run the Altec Lansing Lightnings (now rebranded as Gemini Sound) with mine. I highly recommend, as long as you have neighbors that don't mind it getting a little loud. Can't wait to see your review on the 45' screen!

      Thanks, I do have neighbors close by and for the most part the echo studio works just fine. I thought about getting another one for a bit more sound. I do have a dedicated home theater inside my house which is completely Dolby Atmos so if we want extreme sound we go with the inside theater. If I was out in the country away from other homes I would certainly entertain two large monitors for the sound. I do also like how the echo studios integrate wirelessly with the fire stick making it a quick set up and take down at the end the night.

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  2 месяца назад

      The sound of the blower is not distracting at all. Since the blower is behind the screen the screen actually slightly dampens the sound. I've never had anyone comment on the sound of the blower interfering with the movie. There are hush boxes out there you can buy to put the blower in to quiet them down. I thought about building my own custom hush box for fun made out of MDF and insulation. But the 750 W blower is not distracting at all. Over the weekend I put up the 45 foot screen which has a 1500 W blower which is nearly twice as loud as the 750 W blower and even that was not distracting. None of my guests made a comment on that blower noose either.

      Hi Alicia, in the description there is a link to projector I’m currently using. At the end of the video there are screen shots of videos in action that give you an idea of the picture quality of this screen with the projector I’m currently using. I don’t have any videos of a video in action because taking a video of a video never turns out well. Video quality is dependent of the projector you have and more importantly how good of a device you have to capture a video, in my case an iPhone. I can tell you projector in the description gives an excellent video at 5000 lumens. I wouldn’t go below 3500 lumens on this large of a screen. Again go to the end of the video for video pics.

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  2 года назад

      I would say I’m at 30’ feet with the projector distance. I have a scope screen for my indoor theater. I use to run an anamorphic lens on my indoor projector until the modern day projectors that have the auto zoom and adjust for a scope screen. I currently run a JVC 4K projector indoors. I absolutely love that projector. Important to note that this screen is 16x10 ratio. Not crazy about the aspect ratio as that is a computer monitor ratio. I spoke to the manufacturer about that and they said they went with the 16X10 to set them apart from the competition. The 750 watt blower is for sure enough. The best I have with screen attachment is at the 7:14 mark. Attaching the screen cloth is a tad laborsome to get the screen cloth attached without wrinkles. This is a handmade product so there are variations. The important thing to know when you’re attaching the screen cloth is too lightly put tension on the screen cloth without stretching it. Otherwise when you get to the end of the side you’re attaching the screen is stretched out too far and it will hang off. I am extremely anal when it comes to the screen cloth attaching properly. Once I attach the screen right, I leave it on. When it comes the extension cord I guess you just have to do with what works. I don’t have an issue with a 100’ cord at a lower gauge but I do think that a heavier gauge cord would be the right thing to do. If you look at the voltage drop, it’s pretty significant when dealing with a length of 100’ with a 16 gauge extension cord. Perhaps next summer I’ll build my own custom 50 foot cord that’s 10 gauge. I have toyed with the idea of setting up my generator without an extension cord just to see if there is any more power from the blower. I’m going to try to set up the 45 foot screen today and the blower with that screen is 1500W, yikes. The 750W blower is a tad loud but it does not present any issues with being too loud. I save my videophile and audiophile experience for my indoor theater. I do have an idea flying around about building a hush box for the blower. But again, the noise level really isn’t that bad to motivate me to do that.

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  3 месяца назад

      At the end are static images with the projector that I have linked in the description that are example of the image quality with an epson projector used. I don't video live video as it doesn't give an accurate representation of the actual video quality. As I mentioned in the video the reflective quality of the screen is about 1.0 gain and the image is crisp and detailed for a large piece of white spandex material. I certainly wouldn't put the screen quality in any sort of videophile arena but it is perfectly acceptable for a backyard movie. Video quality is going to be 90% dependent on the projector that is used. The projector that I'm using is a decent projector in the $1500 range. I will say I have used some of the weather resistant vinyl screens and those tend to be wrinkled and don't give in my opinion the best quality but the material presented with this particular screen works great. You can see the seam running through the picture during bright images but to me is not distracting nor have any guests complained about it. On my next video for the 45ft screen I'll go into image more, thanks for the feedback!

    Odd aspect ratio

    • @hagenmi1
      @hagenmi1  2 года назад

      16X10 is typically used for computer monitors. So it means you’re going to have some unused portion of vertical aspect of the screen for a typical movie. Now movies in a tall aspect ratio like iMAX or 1.35:1 look good but are rarely used. The Snyder cut of Justice League filled the entire vertical and looked awesome, but no other modern movie use that aspect ratio.I personally don’t mind the 16x10 as typically the inflation portion of the screen is bowed or uneven on the vertical and that unused portion of the image takes up that slack while filling the horizontal is always used fully without any issue.
