Something else that could be done to help keep the display stabilized would be to take the feet, and fill the PVC with fine grain sand. Glue the caps on with blue plumbers glue and you're all set.
Thanks for the tips. When you said black out material, I'm thinking I'll go to my local fabric store and get white vinyl that I used to make black out curtains. If you can't breath through it, it will work great! I also already have metal poles in tires of concrete for a volleyball net so I'm thinking those will work to support the screen. Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome! Got the roll up 100" silver screen planned out. Now I need a budget friendly but nice portable mini projector. I rly like the LG PF50KA But not sure if battery capable. So then found the Optoma LV130. I'd like your input on an in-between in white fully mobile on battery, WiFi, BT w/ some inputs, outs for speakers (HDMI audio passthrough). under $300 if so. 500-600 nits or upto 2k lumens. I can do w/ 70-80" ok. open to 780 res but 1080 preferred.
While i am sure the cost & weightwould increase, but what about taking these exact measurements and doing this with metal tubing like conduit? or galvanized pipe? Would the weight help or hinder the stability? Would it eliminate the flex that PVC has? Also, what about making the pipe legs Nest inside the side polls? that way you can easily adjust for uneven terrain with a dowel or a bolt?something along the lines of a basic tripod leg or Ez up? Thanks for the video!
Great suggestions! Two reasons I went with PVC over metal conduit are that it's way easier to work with (cutting in particular), especially for the DIYers at large, and also because it's flexible, which is somewhat necessary when pulling the sides/tops apart for disassembly. The weight of pipe would have made it more sturdy, which would be nice. The nested leg idea is a great one and could work really well. I wanted to keep this as simple as I could while still being fully functional, but I might have to try your idea of the telescoping legs - that'd be a great feature. Thank you for watching!
Excellent mate. A Big Thumbs up from here in Blighty. Just bought 2x 2w full monty Wicked Lasercubes & setting up my Visual/Audio side business. Invaluable info.👍👍🖖🍾🥂Sly
This is exactly what I was looking for to make a privacy screen from my nosey neighbours who want to chit chat endlessly over the fence. The material can be cheap broadcloth and will be fine loose fitting. I have yet to check prices but I'm sure it's going to be cheaper than the $150.00 for a flimsy manufactured one.
Hi! Great vid! Can you share the exact dimensions for the PVC. I have a 102” x 58”(16:9) screen, but I got a little confused when you wrote it out and said subtract. I don’t want to cut the PVC at the wrong length. Thanks!
This is pretty cool. Is there a way to mount speakers on the top of each corner of the screen? I'd love to do that in order to give it more of a left and right sound or surround sound effect.
I have a question I have a projector but I was wondering if I can put the screen outside and shine the projector through the window onto the screen that’s outside
One of my Xmas gifts was an outdoor grommeted projector screen and projector. I have those small carabiners to clip the screen to the ropes which are around the pvc. Can clip up the screen in seconds and tension it as needed. Works great!👍
I never ended up creating the video (I lost the footage) but the gist of it is you take a sheet of wood, MDF or whatever you want, ideally 3/4" thick, and put a 1/4 20 threaded insert in it with some glue then put the tripod foot onto that and mount it onto the tripod. It makes a good adjustable stand for your projector.
This projector gets the job done pretty well. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
I made something very similar to thos for a 180 inch screen but couldnt use it because of the wind. Even a slight wind gust shakes the screen quite a bit. I have to find the way to hook it against the walls.
Please reply...when you cut your corners, you cut into the lock of the thread or did you locked it before the mark you needed to cut? Otherwise you're tread will come lose.
Ah, that makes sense. I believe I just left the corners unstitched so that when I cut the corners out I wasn't cutting through the stitching. So far so good.
Help me decide which projector to take, between: c800 or that of this video or yuancin 32g model (pink and white). Do you have any advice on other mini projectors?
@@LRN2DIY its all good found a real 120" outdoor screen for 34$ with mounting brackets on amazon. All I need to do is install the hooks on the siding of my deck. When I want to watch a movie outside just hook up my screen and bring my optoma outside and voila movies under the stars. Your video gave me the idea so thanks
Get a projector with at least 3000 ANSI lumens if you will be using it in daytime. But be careful, there are a lot of shady manufacturers who will try to post fake stats.
I actually never completed that video, but it's just a thicker board (3/4" or more) with a receiving thread in the middle that is threaded and glued into it. That receiving thread is what the foot of the tripod screws into and that's basically all there is to it. It's kind of hard to explain but if you want more details let me know and I'll send pics.
I’m looking for a reflective paint to use in a domed ceiling for theater music room. Animated with RGB lighting or projector. Especially, I wanna creat a mini version of the SLC Tabernacle ceiling dome and back wall effects.
It depends on how much ambient light is there and how far the throw distance (from lens to screen) is, but 3000 is a safe starting point. You can get by with a lot less if you are in a dark space.
I just updated the link to make sure it's pointing to the Black Out Cloth, as opposed to the Flexi-Gray, for example, and it's $39.99 USD (bit.ly/3jD33yE). Another option is to buy one of the super cheap screens on Amazon that cost less than $20 and use the paracord to tie it to the frame you build. I've thought about trying this myself. Here's an example of the screen: geni.us/U8nD9jB. Lastly, I updated the link to the Amazon cloth to be a 4 yard piece of blackout cloth that would work for doing the method shown in this video and it costs $19. Looks like the prices and links had changed somewhat so hopefully these updates help.
Thanks for the heads up. I updated the description to have a more current projector. Not the exact same specs but it's an LED projector for under $90 and people really love it.
This is ridiculous. A projection screen needs to refract light. Cloth fabric without an optical coating is a waste of time and money. Go out and buy some real projection material.

All setup will increas in weight, it won't be portable anymore, by hand anyways. But for use in backyard it's a good idea.

I wish I had the option on yotube to give more than one "like" only for ur vids mate. great job.
Love it, can't wait to do this. Best plan I've see. Thank's so much

What size PVC pipe did you use?
Amazon has projector screen material for
Can you shar the link please?

Hello! How do you “wrap the line around the pvc”? Sorry my English is not that good
Search Google for images of "shower curtain pole grommet" instead of shower curtain rings, think of velcro strips

You said 1.5” PVC in your vid but 1” connectors are listed? Did you use 1” or 1.5” PVC?
You're absolutely right! My bad. I just went and double checked and it's all 1" material, not 1.5". Good catch.
LRN2DIY not a problem thanks for the reply
Very good idea sir i will try at home thenkyou 🙏🌹🙂
Hi this is great. Do you have the link to the projector tripod project as the link didn't display in the video? Thanks.
Can you post the link to the tripod mount video? I didn’t see it on the video.

Thank you!! I am ordering pieces now!
Do you shi to the UK?
what did you do for audio? Suggestions?
Love your video bro.good one.
My friends suggested me to get a silver screen.
What's your thought big man.?
I haven't tried the silver screens before but i know they're pretty well reviewed and a good deal too. I wouldn't hesitate to try one.
@@LRN2DIY thanks man.keep it up.
How do you stablize it? I can almost see how the tie downs, outside work, but what about inside? Mine is very flimsy...twists..etc.
you should have made the right leg a bit longer to take in account for hill slope!
The projector runs on a battery. Does it ONLY run on a battery?
No, it has a power adapter as well, but it has a 3 hr battery that it charges while plugged in.
You have to charge it right?
Plug it in and play it
love the ad sure monika will never forget bill.lol
liquid stitch & a heat press ..fast ! sewing is always the best option though good job mate

Have you looked into those paints that allow your screen to be viewed in daylight?
Couldn’t find the link to the tripod projector mount. Can you help? Thanks!
What kind of needle did you use to sew through the material?
Just a standard sewing material. The fabric is tough but it’s not super thick and was no problem for the needle.
@@LRN2DIY thanks for the response. Great content.

Saulo Ortiz Hey Saulo, I’m not sure what you mean. There are no threaded ends in this project. It’s all pressure fitted so that it’s diassemblable.
I think they are asking if when you cut the blackout material did your corner cuts cut into the seam thread on the hem.
Ah, that makes sense. I believe I just left the corners unstitched so that when I cut the corners out I wasn't cutting through the stitching. So far so good.

would a regular bed sheet do about the same job?
I think it would work but the screen material is opaque so I suspect it would give you better contrast.

The lumens are so low. Everything I read says for outdoor use should be over 3000?
It depends on how much ambient light is there and how far the throw distance (from lens to screen) is, but 3000 is a safe starting point. You can get by with a lot less if you are in a dark space.
I think that tiny projector is like 50 ansi lumens, so not really usable in anything but a pitch black room.
Do you have any other screen material recommendations. It says these are unavailable.
looks like amazon is out of stock but I went directly to their website and found upgraded materials:

Why not use carpet tape?
