Absolutely love how they used clever tricks with matte paintings and models, like at 5:35 - 5:38 part. You can see how they used a laser flash to switch from matte painting to a prop model for the trench run.
I remember my cousin taking my little brother and I to see the original "Star Wars" at a local theater in the Detroit, MI area, way back in '77, while I was on vacation from boarding school. I had a fun-filled sense of "immersion" seeing that film, kinda like a "you-are-there" feeling, and that's how I *really fell in love* with science fiction! I guess that no matter *how old* I get, there are a lotta great things in my childhood that I'll *NEVER* outgrow!
Just over 8 minutes of film took up over half their budget. A price well paid for without these scenes done so well the movie would never have been a success.
Thanks, this is the only version that can bring one back to the excitement of 1977. Getting flashbacks of being 14 again. (Even appreciate the close-up view in the formatted version. Also, this has the Falcon sounding its' best - not the ear-piercing shrill pitch in the special edition (flying to the rebel base part- and 'starsiegeplayer' is right - original model ships far better than the CGI.)
When I was a kid and I watched these spaceships they were the future to me. Once cgi became prominent and they started making spaceships that looked like toys, with lively colours and rounded shapes, it no longer had that magic.
It’s phenomenal to see the original effects in a video. I genuinely haven’t seen this version of the footage since I was very little and my dad had the OT on VHS. That being said, anyone who says the updated ones are worse are straight up delusional. George has always treated his films (especially the OT) as unfinished and eventually he got them the way he wanted them to look. Whether you like them or not he got his films made and you can do nothing but respect that. Personally, prefer the updated versions but I will always look back on this footage with nothing but fondness. Such a shame Disney have effectively started to put the nails in this franchise’s coffin after footage like this gave it life.
I object to the scene at 2:17! A planet being destroyed is not a ship! 😂 Edit: in all sincerity I am deeply thankful for the non-special edition scenes. I haven’t seen the originals for over two decades!
We've captured a freighter entering remains of the Alderaan system. Its markings matches those ships that blasted its way out of Mos Eisley. (There was a clip of the Falcon lifting straight out of shot from docking bay 94)
@@wonderfulwookiee6443 I thin only tie fighters cannot jump. As a diplomatic envoy for the whole of Alderaan and a seat at the main council, I doubt her cruiser would not be able to jump considering the likely distances between alteraan and the coruscant
@@awfine510 it's a battle station the size of a small moon aka a dwarf planet, a movable battle station isn't a ship. Pods aren't a ship because no one uses them to get from point A - B, they can get you to B but not from A but somewhere in-between...

They used pieces from Battleship sets to create the surface of the Death Star.
I had never realized! Can't unsee it now ^^

1977 version.. Thank you Sir... Thank You!!
Question how can see see the death star next to a gas giant?
I mean like yavin prime is the biggest planet in star wars yet we can see the death star next to it tho
2:53 I like how the Falcon was like “Nope, not today!” and left right after entering the Death Star.
Just over 8 minutes of film took up over half their budget. A price well paid for without these scenes done so well the movie would never have been a success.
I appreciate the inclusion of the original models in this video rather than the CGI stuff from the later re-release.
Honestly, the first time I saw A New Hope was the 1997 version. Later in 2012, I saw a 1977 version of A New Hope
I prefer the 1977 and 1997 version.
It was NOT "A New Hope." It was simply STAR WARS.
@@potatohead1423 Sorry to bust your bubble, but when I first saw this movie- *_IN 1977_* -IT WAS TITLED "Star Wars Episode IV 'A New Hope'"!
Temmin Wexley the cg scenes look so out of place in a 70s movie.
Bless you for using only 1977 footage. Also, I love that the Death Star counts as a ship. 😊
This is the old version. Wow. I’m not used to seeing this.
I'm not used to seeing the correct color timing, also! WOW!
77, 78, 79 ver. Or 2006 ver.
ORIGINAL version you mean ;)
Yay, old version! I love you ThomasHuntFilms!

Original Version
Nothing beats an original the Virgin of Star Wars 💚💙❤
Finally the cut I've always wanted. Also, I never realized the final battle was over half the in-space scenes. I suppose obvious in retrospect.
6:06 this shot is so satisfactory

Calm the heck down, 1977! Your Stereo Sound is going crazy!
In this original version, there are some beautiful shots. The version what I appreciate when I was a 12 years old kid. Thanks too much!
Love seeing this with all the original VFX!
조지 루카스와 그의 팀은 정말 천재들이었네요.
..at 13 in '77, this blew me away. I had to know more about this.. Dykstraflex camera driven by memory system..I remain blown away.
este video es excelente, muy buena idea felicidades.
Old, ways too make a film = are better. 10/10
That Roll at 5:08 was the most iconic scene in that entire dogfight
When I was a kid and I watched these spaceships they were the future to me. Once cgi became prominent and they started making spaceships that looked like toys, with lively colours and rounded shapes, it no longer had that magic.
Looks like stormtrooper patrol duty extends to walking in space around their own deathstars. And that didn't end well either

Hear that folks? The edits to the originals are all Lucas approved :) Just appreciate all the versions
Dolby Stereo Level: *INSANITY*
2:02 Wow, that guy knows some maneuvers.
5:31 Two Y-Wings instantly disappear out of shot
I watched Star Wars when I was little with my grandmother and family. I loved Luke, but now I love Han.
Great original Version!
But you missed Falcon leaving Mos Eisely, And the Death Star is Not Oblong it's a sphere
The Falcon leave Mos Eisely.
5:12 The TIE Fighter is dark for some reason
Hyperspace looks like doctor Who. The best!
Great Video Now you just ,got to make another video with the Remastered Versions of the first 3 Star Wars Films .
Is it just me or are the Death Star's guns bigger than those our Battleships used?
3:45 OLHA ESSA NAVE DESCENDO KKKKKKKKKKKKKK
I wonder why Lucas wasn't concerned so much with perspective and realistic lighting.
4:46 to 4:48 why are the X wings so slow?
Because this is the old version of the movie that was made in 1977 I am more used to the re realised version I think it is better
Awesome may the force be with you.
You are missing one of the equator trench shots of the Falcon entering the DS hanger.
Yep. Plus there are a few shots of characters viewing ships through windows that are missing too.
Hard to get life insurance being a rebel pilot. You're lucky to survive one mission. Like rallying in a Ford pinto

A great video!
"Ship Wars"
AWESOME!
Mantap 👏
YAY for plastic models and firecrackers!! I'll take this over CGI any day!!
Now that's cool. 🎉

Forgot the scene when the falcon left tatooine
That's from the special edition not the original 1977 release.

I think because there are stormtroopers in that scene, and this is just supposed to be the ships.
i love that moment 1:27
Firing 5:11
All killer, no filler.
I miss the old star wars
Original !
I miss my nads
Please do it for all the films
I wonder how these ships move left or right, I don't see any jet or stream coming out from the sides and ailerons are rather useless in empty space.
I’m so happy to see this video
7:15 X-Wing crashes on the right.
How did the empire capture Leias ship after it had jumped to hyperspace
Maybe Leia's ship can't jump to hyperspace? Or the star destroyer was travelling at the same speed?

Yes it's brilliantly compiled and put together but I don't know the usefulness of a video like this.

So much better than the cgi crap
2:55 3:39 5:36 6:04 8:01
Because we shouldn't be able to see the death star cause its smaller than it
I'm 4 years old again.
Thank You, i love sci fi.
Star wars is guilty.
Death Star isn't a ship, same with escape pod.
The Death Star is manned so it is a ship. So is the escape pod, think of it as a rescue vessel.
