They went from somewhat noticeably first-time effects from the first Star Wars with the Falcon's flyby sequences, to sequences like 2:46. That flyby is frickin' epic.
This is great, thank you so much. It also shows that the Millennium Falcon is like a character in the originals that was spared the prequels so that's kinds cool. TFA really made it shine again and was rebooted... along with fans.
The Falcon is such a HUGE iconic ship! I just love this bucket of bolts , can`t get enough of her. Every time I see the Falcon....goosebumps all over haha! Can`t wait to see it in action again in the new Han Solo spin off. Don`t care if the whole movie sucks as long as the Falcon is in it. :)
'Chrissy Leblanc' it's really fun to fly the milliennium falcon but about the same parsecs 12 at least good hyperdrive as well and it's perfectly cozy in the ship
The millennium falcon had its moments in space and survived the empire the Rathars the tie fighters attacks even manunvered thru an asteroid belt and went inside the Death Star twice
Clever video but you missed the bit from ESB when the Falcon comes out of the Asteroid field and gets quite badly hit on the back just before they try to go to lightspeed
credits to ILM and how they have elevated VFX, however the for many times more believable scenes are still the practical ones they have done with miniatures in the past. If I had to choose the best sequence, it is the entire Deathstar Tunnel Run. The Falcon action in TFA is neat, but you hardly see the "beauty" of the falcon except within those flyby scenes. That's why after the Jakuu chase, which is amazing though, my favorite moment is the departure flyby from orbit.
trekaddict ...I agree with you 100% The only reason to watch any of these new movies is for the spaceships aliens and environments in star wars. I don't care about the stories characters etc. Just being in star wars environment all that matters
A part of me really wants to know the rest of the story, but with the new movies I care a whole lot less about it. Even my fanfiction is all set in Legends...
trekaddict . For me personally I don't care about the "Cannon or Legends" doctrine. It's all fiction anyways. Star Wars EU is by far such a massive rich resource built up over the last 40 years, I don't know why Disney walked away from it. I just hope the Bobba fett movie is dark sinister and rated pg13 or even rated R. I think more people would go see a rated R star wars movie just out of pure curiosity. Lol
Apparently they walked away from it because of rights issues with several dozen different authors and because, let's face it, a lot of it is plan bad. It being such a massive resources is why I operate in it, there's just so much more to draw from.
Who doesn't love this bird? Fwoo. Look at her go. I try to emulate the way Han flies when I play "Overload." Rolling as I need to and then solid angular turns into cover. Then kick in the afterburner to get behind enemy bots and {blayam!} - Floating scrap! hah So friggin' sweet!
Not bad, but I wish you'd kept the shot of the Falcon popping out a little anti-infantry turret when the snowtroopers were setting up to blast it on Hoth. This girl's got some sweet surprises :) I guess it counted as too "close up"...
The second best would be the Millenium Falcon lifting off from the Death Star during the escape - that whine of the thrusters as she tilted and spun around 180 degrees before the main drive lit up and she pulled away from the station. That incredible spin. Goosebumps. Every. Time!!! 😊
one those great mysteries I ask myself the question since I saw Star Wars in 77'. could br what Solo said to from the beginning "what a piece of junk" Solo "She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid..."
The ship has personality. Unlike other mass produced ships like X-Wing, Star Trek Enterprise, Babylon 5 Whitestar, this ship is heavily modified and has its own quirks, unlike the stock YT-1300 freighter. -the ship is bigger than a fighter, so you can imagine to live on it -it has many extras no other ship of it's size and class has. So you have to study the ship and learn all its secrets. The more you learn about it, the closer you get to the ship. -it's classified as freighter, durable as a battleship, fast and agile as a fighter and powerful as a destroyer -it has a unique sturdy simple design and no overly complicated fancy useless parts, thus almost realistic and military proven (no warp nacelles on super thin, long and paper weak looking pylons) The closest comparable ship would be the Defiant of DS9, if that ship wouldn't be a mass produced ship and actually got some visible makeshift parts.
I would say it's because the Star Wars films are better than the Star Trek films. I've seen all of them and all but two of the Star Trek movies. It's also the result of being an 80s child. It's just a reminder of my childhood and yes, I have an original issue Millennium Falcon playset with MOST of the parts sitting in a storage shed. Only about 3-4 parts are missing but I wonder if 3D printing can enable me to replace them. I just can't find time to look for it!
Modified! Freaking modified to extremes. I just marvel at how Captain Solo has to bash a rear bulkhead instrument panel of the cockpit to activate the rear cockpit monitoring instrumentation for the ship. Han Solo knew every quirk on this heavily modified YT-1300 Freighter. My pipe dream would be to have a perfect Millenium Falcon replica in my huge back garden - as a garden office / man or woman cave / guest sleeping quarters / media TV or Film viewing room / astronomy observation platform with powerful telescopes installed. Just need to win that game of Sabbacc first! 😅
Not re-start an old thread, but has anyone ever found out, practically speaking, why the Falcon's exhaust glow seems to shift color? Especially in 'Empire Strikes Back' and to a lesser degree in 'Jedi,' it appears a bit pinkish at times, sometimes neutral white with a touch of yellow, and sometimes bluish, which would seem to be the intended tint*. To be clear, I'm more interested in the details of the actual effects work, and whether or not, for example, the folks rotoscoping all the glowie bits do stuff like this on purpose (to avoid washout or contrast on bright backgrounds, say) or if it's just the way stuff washes out after all the splicing of photographic elements and whatnot.. I've got a friend who has a pet theory that this phenomenon (it's noticed by other people, less nerd than myself, apparently) is intentional; that the ship is at high power when glowing more blue (as when putting on a burst of speed to close on the ill-fated Captain Needa's Star Destroyer), and yellow or orange-pinkish when at lower power (as when taking off from Hoth or the Cloud City), the way stars and flames and such glow blue when hotter... *On the other hand, I seem to remember that my Millennium Falcon childhood toy, which I coveted sinfully, had decals for the engine tailpipe area that were distinctly orange-y. I always thought that was weird. My brother and I also had the Imperial Shuttle toy, and it definitely had blue stickers, as it appears in the movie. But I never saw 'Empire' as a kid until much later; only the first film and 'Jedi'..until my parents finally relented and bought a VCR in 1986...
Not to mention that it's also my favorite ship in star wars. At least you can walk around in it and stretch your legs and use the bathroom when needed. Unlike the x-wing.
How did the Death Star crew get the falcons landing gear down once they bought it into the hanger bay? Also you missed a scene from new hope where the falcon is travelling in hyperspace inside the Dr Who looking vortex
You know, I hate to sound like that guy, but Princess Leia could have gotten into one of the Gun turrets and gave those TIE fighters a real run for their money during the Asteroid Field escape.
This.. Is why.. It's the sexiest transport since the Trans Am in "Smokey and the Bandit". C'mon now? There both up there. Or maybe I'm just a taaad to old. Lmao. Ok. The Falcon's got ot hands down
Nice. I look forward to the day when we can get the original theatrical OT SFX without all the CGI junk Lucas chucked into the background. The ROTJ battle shots actually look *worse* because of all the CGI background clutter.
Watch out for the "Silver Screen Edition" (ANH) and the "Renegade Grindhouse Edition" (ESB). They've been scanned in HD from 35mm prints holding the unaltered movies. :)
There were actually some guys that made “de-specialized” versions of the original trilogy, but they left it at 1080P. Did a great job too, have a lot for them sometime :)
And she's got a lot of girly stuff in there like clothes tools n other equipment and light saber and bras and panties in her closet in the falcon as well
x wing, millenium falcon, uss enterprise, great fox and arwings are my favorite ships of all the times...

You don't even have to see it. Hearing that delicious whining roar is plenty enough..
9:04 i could watch that sequence 100 times
I remember seeing that shot in the first teaser trailer and tearing up... to me, it meant Star Wars was back!
Yeah same here, Jason.....
Wow, Rey sure does fly that ship well for someone who's never flown it before. She's amazing. Is there anything she can't do?
I so cried when I saw the Falcon reveal in The Force Awakens
For some reason it's just charming to see the millennium falcon in action in a new Hope.
'Chrissy Leblanc' it's really fun to fly the milliennium falcon but about the same parsecs 12 at least good hyperdrive as well and it's perfectly cozy in the ship
Excellent montage, except you missed the part when the falcon is flying through the rebel fleet shortly before entering hyperspace bound for Endor :D
And when Han comes to help Luke at the end of ANH just before the death star is blown up
NICE VIDEO
Kev. l love this ship so much. I built it. Exacting. Still work pending.
KEEP ON, KEEPING ON.
LOVE YA KEV.
There is nothing that can beat this machine
pure nostalgia.............
The millennium falcon had its moments in space and survived the empire the Rathars the tie fighters attacks even manunvered thru an asteroid belt and went inside the Death Star twice
i remember seeing the falcon in ep 2, it was the highlight of my life ( and the film )
Clever video but you missed the bit from ESB when the Falcon comes out of the Asteroid field and gets quite badly hit on the back just before they try to go to lightspeed

The Falcon is the only real reason why I'm looking forward to the Solo movie. :D

The Meterite belt stole the whole show for me. Still to this day " How on earth did they do that? I just don't want to know

Badass! Thanks for posting this.
Very cool edit. Teared me up.
Not bad, but I wish you'd kept the shot of the Falcon popping out a little anti-infantry turret when the snowtroopers were setting up to blast it on Hoth. This girl's got some sweet surprises :) I guess it counted as too "close up"...
Toughest hunk of junk in the galaxy. That thing takes some wicked abuse in TFA!
Yes I agree. After All it's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.
0:41 - Best scene in all of Star Wars; the Millenium Falcon landing on the Death Star.
The second best would be the Millenium Falcon lifting off from the Death Star during the escape - that whine of the thrusters as she tilted and spun around 180 degrees before the main drive lit up and she pulled away from the station. That incredible spin. Goosebumps. Every. Time!!! 😊
What is it about the Falcon that is so appealing? Love that ship.

At 1:48 when it comes in into view is awesome!
this ship is star wars
I dont like this ship anymore after knowing L3-37 is part of it the whole time...
You missed when the Millennium Falcon was in hyperspace on the way to Alderaan.
Best ship in the Sega I was disappointed the falcon did not have much screen time in the last jedi and the ship sounds amazing
creation of a genius :)
I'm the biggest falcon fan ever, always gives me goosebumps 😄😄😄, is that natural? The wife thinks I'm strange 👍
You need to do an updated version...
I want the millennium falcon to put my dolorean in. ;)
And if the hyperdrive tends to malfunction Ud can easily fix the hyperdrive
Not to mention that it's also my favorite ship in star wars. At least you can walk around in it and stretch your legs and use the bathroom when needed. Unlike the x-wing.
What the hell is an "aluminum falcon"?!
Tritonewt A flying tin can ;-)
take a plastic millenium falcon model sculpt aluminium foil wrap all the way around..annnnd presto! Shiny Too!!
Bravo. Excellent post. Did the others reeeeaally get it, I wonder? ;-)
Robot chicken boys
@Tsujanryo I did, and I still laugh at that sketch. Papa Palpatine stole the show in that one. Absolutely hilarious!
You missed a couple of shots of it when Rey is climbing up the stairs. You can still see it in the background
How did the Death Star crew get the falcons landing gear down once they bought it into the hanger bay? Also you missed a scene from new hope where the falcon is travelling in hyperspace inside the Dr Who looking vortex
aaaaaaand that is why I'm building my own ;)
THIS GO HERE AND THAT ONE GOES THEIR RIGHT
Gonna have to update this for solo
When solo a star wars story comes out you should re upload
I feel that was a different falcon ship
before solo
in revenge of the sith
The one on solo: a star wars story is different from the one in the beginning.
So the falcon is her new home
Does that asteroid actually change direction at 3:05?
You know, I hate to sound like that guy, but Princess Leia could have gotten into one of the Gun turrets and gave those TIE fighters a real run for their money during the Asteroid Field escape.
Yeah!!!
Good cut !
Sou um fã déstar wars há pelo 35 anos que pena que acabou
Nice job!
8:44 - Now I remember why the MF had a rectangular radar dish. I forgot that Han accidentally ripped it off while flying into the Death Star.
largol33t1 Han didn't rip it off...Lando an the little Mario bros..alien did.
Gesundheit.
largol33t1 that was lando that did that
You missed one shot from a new hope where it is in hyperspace and comes out of it to meet Alderans remains
Also the scene in ROTJ where the Falcon is flying through the fleet before the jump to hyperspace to Endor.
Unless Ud wanted a porg bird alien to chewing on the chair and its quite easy to bypass the compressor hopefully
The fastest ship in the galaxy!
This.. Is why.. It's the sexiest transport since the Trans Am in "Smokey and the Bandit". C'mon now? There both up there. Or maybe I'm just a taaad to old. Lmao. Ok. The Falcon's got ot hands down

How many millennium falcon toys does everyone have? I have 3
It's a flying burger with an olive for a cockpit. No wonder americans love it
Archimedes555453525 what the fuck does that mean?
And believe it or not Rey now owns the millennium falcon and flies it in outer space
davendee1986 she won't when Han is cloned and brought back to life the same way the dinosaurs were in Jurassic Park
Thank you!
Lots of people here don't realize that even in the new movies they mix models with CGI.
Is 1:36-1:38 a model or CG shot? Either way it looks flawless!
It's a CG shot added in the 1997 Special Edition. And I agree, it does still hold up today.
I think most of the ANH 1997 CG effects have held up well. They blend in good with the original models and add more dynamic shots like this one!
Nice. I look forward to the day when we can get the original theatrical OT SFX without all the CGI junk Lucas chucked into the background. The ROTJ battle shots actually look *worse* because of all the CGI background clutter.

What is the name of the worm in the asteroid that ate the millennium falcon in the empire strikes back? Please let me know what the name of it is.
Thomas Murphy Exogorth
Moritz Bleicher thank you and i wonder how they moved the space slug?

0:18 should of had done the Falcon guns.
Best ship ever.
Blast this shit with surround sound. 😳
nothing from Solo film?
And she's got a lot of girly stuff in there like clothes tools n other equipment and light saber and bras and panties in her closet in the falcon as well
Boo, no Lando popping out of the top hatch.
Very cool.
