  • SPEED COMPARISON 3D: STAR WARS
    This video took me a lot of time. Calculating the speed and distance traveled was easy, but building the scene was a bit difficult. In this video, we compared the fastest STAR WARS starships. We looked at atmospheric speed. MGLT and HCR It's a bit hard to understand, and the StarWars website itself says that it doesn't match our math and physics to calculate them. So, it's not clear what speed they are traveling in space. enjoy 😉

    • @MarkoDash

      this has to be 'on the deck' speeds, as every one of these ship can effortlessly SSTO, so they're all a lot faster in thinner air.
      that being said some of these should be much faster low down, like the Nubian ships that are sleek enough that drag shouldn't be an issue.
      edit: the only other explanation i can think of is that the main engines aren't effective in atmosphere, so all these speeds for the starships are on repulserlift only. which would then make sense that they could be outrun by dedicated atmospheric craft.
      they're all basically operating in VTOL mode.

      I was curious when the craft would start going hypersonic, and I was surprised the the Falcon and Star Destroyers for example weren't showing above mach 1. But I reckon what would have been cool would be for the vehicle sounds to go silent when the camera swept around 'in front' of the speed of sound. Then hear the noise after they have gone past. That would have been more realistic. At the end you simply wouldn't hear any of the mach 1+ vehicles coming, although they would be noisy after passing. Great video all the same!

    I've never watched Star Wars other than a few movies here and there, so I had no idea how fast these vehicles are, but I've always imagined them to be extremely fast (at least inside planets with atmospheres and drag), I'm surprised to hear that these vehicles are slower than I expected, slower than many current military fighters arrive... For example the Naboo Royal Starship ( 2:24 ), it reminds a lot of an SR-71 but extremely improved and futuristic, but it doesn't even reach Mach 1 while the SR-71 goes up to Mach 3+

    • @spacemiaou67
      @spacemiaou67 10 месяцев назад +3

      These are all shown flying relatively low, the air is much too dense to go any faster. The SR-71 wouldn't be able to even reach Mach 1 when it flies under 15000 feet.

    • @Kurayamiblack
      @Kurayamiblack 10 месяцев назад +2

      I like to imagine that because it's Star Wars and it ignores physics most of the time anyways, their max atmospheric speeds probably also ignore altitude requirements and can be reached at both high and low altitudes. Shielding (for ships that have it) probably helps ignore air physics when maneuvering too.
      The SR-71 Blackbird on the other hand NEEDS to be at certain altitudes to achieve its top speed which if nothing else gives Star Wars ships a versatility edge (even if it is due to BS). So in all areas except stealth, Starfighters outclass the Blackbird in usefulness. And if we only care about getting from point A to Point B, I would say the Blackbird wins under optimal conditions as long as the destination is on-world. The second the destination is off-world, not only can the Blackbird straight up not get there, but even if it could it suddenly has to compete with hyperdrives and you just ain't winning that one 😅

      Many of those craft aren’t designed with atmospheric flight in mind. Before Disney, the largest imperial ship designed for atmospheric FLIGHT was the victory class, and also the venators could fly in atmosphere as they could land.
      The providence class speed would seem incorrectly based on that one example of the INVISIBLE HANDS atmospheric “flight” down to the surface of coruscant haha
      We have to remember, many of Thales ships are designed for SPACE, where there is no atmospheric air resistance, their structural framework, even with integrity fields, shields etc can only tolerate so much, where as earth planes are optimised for such flight

    Lol I love how the speed difference in a lot of these must have been important to chase scenes so that a ship could just about get away or just about be caught, making clusters of ships with near-identical speeds :P

    I really love this work put into the video. My only critique of it is that standard TIE fighters are rarely fitted with hyperdrives. They're ship to ship battalion fighters and though the New Order TIEs sometimes had them installed, most of the Empiric TIEs did not. Even Obi-Wan corrected Luke's assertion that a TIE fighter "must've followed them from Tattooine," when he says "It's a short range fighter. A fighter that size couldn't have gotten out here by itself..."
    So while it's certainly possible and it's noted that there were a few times where TIEs were retrofitted with hyperdrives, it was certainly very VERY rare.

    • @MrClauws
      @MrClauws Год назад +3

Special praise to the sound too; I ramped up the volume and the bass in those larger engines as they passed overhead was breath-taking. You are so good at what you do, you deserve to be in the RUclips Top100!

    I was wondering if these were speeds in atmosphere, because a lot of it wouldn't make sense if it was in space. The description confirmed that, even if it's not said which atmosphere this is exactly. But some of the speeds are still quite hard to believe. The animation is very nicely done, however.

    One suggestion :
    Dont let similar speed vehicles come from behind and join another same speed vehicle, It kills the illusion of reality, Because a vehicle needs to be faster to catch up to another vehicle.
    U can Bring Similar speed vehicles from any Side (Outside the frame) beside current vehicle
