I’m so happy to hear you shout out Shirley Jackson’s other work, she’s one of my favorites! Gothic stories were my introduction to horror because I was a bit of a scaredy cat when I was younger. If you’d like some more recommendations I would suggest The Vampires of El Norte (especially since you say you’ve been liking vampires), the Death of Jane Lawrence (a lot of focus on atmosphere), and for a classic The Phantom of the Opera (I think an under-read novel).
As a side note, I love your poetry shorts. I’ve struggled to get into poetry but there’s something about hearing it read out loud and you have a lovely voice for it.

Since you like the Kingfisher so much, you should definitely keep your eyes open for a copy of Usher's Passing by Robert McCammon. A bit hard to find in paper these days, but it's out there. Another great riff on the Poe story. The other Shirley Jackson that no one talks about nearly enough: We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Read on!

Horrorstör is AMAZING! I’m not the best judge on whether it might be too much for you or not. I adore horror and it takes a lot to creep me out. Like my love of spicy food, I’m usually really bad at taking a step back and analyzing whether something is too over the top for others. 😅

If you enjoy “Something Wicked” half as much as I did, you will have a great time. I can still remember where I was as I read and was awed and delighted by the climax. It took me back to my childhood self in a wondrous way. Read it every October for many years. Hope I’m not overselling. Lol.

Hi Pat--I'm late (yet again) to this video. I'm so glad to see that you are finding some horror that works for you. I agree that T. Kingfisher is a great choice!

Thank you so much for the tag!. Wow, that is a disturbing story. I still need to watch your video on Poe. I have not read a lot of Gothic Literature but I did love Dracula. I hope you enjoy Something Wicked This Way Comes, a personal favorite. I loved Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived In The Castle, i will look out for Dark Tales. I have just read Night Of The Living Trekkies and really had fun, despite knowing next to nothing about Star Trek. Just a friendly warning, there is quite a bit of gore, it is a zombie tale after all. 😂Great video! I will also check out those other channels.

Thanks for all the recommendations and also for the warnings. I think the Star Trek Zombie book looks more fun than scary, but I'll let you know if it was too much for me. I was a Star Trek fan growing up--of the original series from the 1960's. I know nothing about all of the subsequent series.
