First time I saw Dream Theater was in OKC in a dive bar. They opened for Fates Warning. The entire crowd felt like a musician's convention. Everyone was studying.

Basically by being talented, prolific, and fking disciplined, they started at college and they were just a bunch of guys obsessed with music and they just practiced like crazy every time they could, it's not that common in rock/metal bands where all the members are equally talented and hard working on their craft, hell it's not Even common in popular music at all

I think is not modulations, Its rhythm changes what ethe drummer is talkin about.

I'm guessing that's also a term drummers use for rhythm changes.

Technically he is right, it's just metric modulation not tonal modulation
