Not sure about the surface roughness, internal features with precise dimensions and anisotropy of the material and manufacturing process, but inventions need these novelties, great. (I wathced the video when it was first released, today it is still up to date)
you are creating new boundaries which we avoid with single crystal casting ???? how you can come back to single crystal structure or you have hidden steps ?
I know Boeing was recently researching HIPing (Hot Isostatic Pressing) SLS printed parts to diminish the grain size and porosity. It's not as strong as single crystal though so I imagine they modified the design to reduce the material strength requirements or perhaps are only using them for the LPT section. Perhaps they are doing the same thing.
@@SafetyLucas could be but i think the whole technology going to be disrupted by electrification remember PV=MRT you can increase air temperature with electricity thousands degree without any moving parts ? temperature and pressure can proportionally increased ???
@@SafetyLucas increasing efficiency at cost of strentg in LPT section makes much more sense than using this in highier temperatures. It is important to remember that turbines have many stages some of which doesnt need exceptionaly resistant materials. It is also possible that the material they used can actually get stronger from 3d printing process as new materials are invented every day
I’d hope you are printing the parts on their side. Those layers would hold up better under rotation if they aren’t naturally wanting to shear at any layer.
@@majesticrattoon4429 3d printing is welding unlike casting which produces single crystal blades One more thing in laser metal printing grains follow direction of laser unlike single crystal blade casting where cooling metal forms single crystal .
@@anshulbhardwaj4038 Yeah and the guy is asking whether it's possible to 3D print SX alloys. The answer is no. But theoretically you do not need SX alloys heat resistence if you can cool the blades more effectively thanks to 3D printing. Having SX alloys with complex inner cavities is the dream here, which IMO isn't conceivable.
Constructive criticism, no disrespect; lose the background noise. The subject & your narration of it is great! The addition of distracting, monotonous & annoying music ruined the vid for me.

metal 3d printing works a little differenty than the typical plastic filament 3d printing. there are oher things to worry about here tho

Great.
Single crystal without directional solidification, is it really possible ?
They are not crystal blades

what would be innovative is a single printed mono-propellant high isp engine, with nitrated alcohol-group chains as a fuel source
But that wouldn't be a gas turbine.

Huh?
We've been root cooling for 35+years... where's the innovation in that!
And weve also achieved boundary layer pressure control...
Thanks for the insights

Of course, in contrast with a crude oil refinery, or a coal powerplant.
