  • Macattack 1's Ki-Adi-Mundi Vs. Kao Cen Darach - [ • VERSUS SERIES (episode... ]
    Though I intended this video to be a return to my normal post-mortem format, where I cover both combatants from a match-up one after another, this catalogue of Raana Tey's feats got a little out of hand, and rather than cut it down to size, I've chosen to do as I did with Darth Thanaton, and upload it as a standalone profile of her and her alone.
    My analysis of the Jedi Covenant Seer Raana Tey will be drawn from her appearances in the Knights of the Old Republic comic series, specifically the Crossroads, Commencement, Homecoming, Nights of Anger, and Knights of Suffering issues and story arcs, in addition to the KotOR handbook and the KotOR campaign guide.
    Background information on her species traits and Jedi training will be drawn from The New Essential Guide To Alien Species and The Essential Guide To The Force, among several others.
    As this is the first post-mortem analysis that I have uploaded in over a year, I will provide a brief refresher on the ranking tiers, originally codified by Macattack 1 in his seminal versus video, Ki-Adi-Mundi versus Kao Cen Darach, [ • VERSUS SERIES (episode... ].
    They are as follows:
    Tier 1 - Complete Mastery
    Tier 2 - Advanced Mastery
    Tier 3 - Standard Mastery
    Tier 4 - Advanced Application
    Tier 5 - Standard Application
    Tier 6 - Basic Application
    Tier 7 - Basic Knowledge
    With my opening preamble out of the way, allow me to present my post-mortem analysis of Raana Tey.

    Kit Fisto vs Anakin Skywalker: I realize this might seem like a no brainer, Anakin’s Djem So being optimized for single combat. But Kit is significantly better in hand to hand combat. has a more unpredictable technique, better self control and tactical skills( though only slightly since when he goes all out he’s ALMOST as impulsive as Anakin) and while less powerful he does use the force slightly more regularly than Anakin. Also they are both familiar with Ataru and duel blade fencing and their physical abilities are roughly on par. Anakin might win, but it’s By the skin of his teeth instead of a curb stomp. Or Kit’s unpredictable style might let him find in opening in Anakin’s defense before Anakin beats him. Anakin is a better single combat duelist, but Kit nearly bested Grevious, bested several magnugaurds, was leagues ahead of Episode 2 Obi Wan during their sparring sessions, and while he lost to Ventress and Palpatine, Palpatine is one of the best duelists of all time and he lasted longer than everyone but mace and Yoda, and he was wounded before the duel with Ventress who had a chance to study his skills, form 1 is naturally weak against for 2, and Ventress raw skill would’ve allowed her to go toe to toe with him on her worst day. They are both council level Jedi, the top masters of their respective styles, skilled tacticians and are overall equals.( minus raw power in the force, cause ya know, chosen one.)

      It's funny that you make this request, because one of my original Season 1 match-ups was Kit Fisto Vs. Ulic Qel-Droma. My analysis was much more amateur and simplistic, but my conclusion was much the same:
      Anakin/Ulic win because their respective Djem So techniques are better optimized for dueling, but Fisto is still fair competition and possesses a slim advantage as a Force wielder.

    She really was a victim of the orders incompetence. They basically handed over a highly talented but clearly unwell young adult to a mourning paranoid extremist who then not only failed to help her control the thing that caused her to suffer but actively encouraged it. The Jedi then upon realising something is up destroy the only support network that she has causing a major mental decline including a casual use of the Dark Side. If she hadn't passed when she did there is not a zero chance that Raana Tey would have become a Dark Jedi

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wow. This video actually had some surprising results, to me anyways.
    I imagined that Rhanna Tae's Martial arts skills were closer to a Tier 5 class from the majority of her shortcomings and compared to how versatile other recognized Tier 3 swordsman such as Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul or Kit Fisto are, against their own specialized natures. Each of them have stronger consistent success, more developed repertoire's and stronger awareness than what Rhanna displayed; while Tier 4's such as Rham Kota, ROTJ Luke Skywalker and Quinlan Vos mix their physical techniques with different tactics, developed Force abilities, and broader knowledge of other weapons, styles and tactics. Imaging different scenario's these Tier-4's may respond to against how Rhanna Tae would respond, some clear differences in performance and success come up.
    Similarly, a Tier 3 Force Wielder placement was another surprise as more could be said about the Force powers or Skills Rhaana Tae does not use or has underdeveloped, and her applications of them: general broad-area telekinesis, never apply thrown objects, highly talented foresight but mixed with limited additional sense-branch powers and middling Control Branch capabilities.
    This is my opinion, and I am not Jensaarai One. So please, this is not a direct criticism to him; only my opinion. Perhaps a few extra comments in this video towards how Rhanna Tae would compare against other characters in different tiers, such as Quinlain Voss, Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi or Ashoka Tano would clarify his recognition of her as a Tier-3.
    Honestly, I actually perceived Lucien Draay as an overall Tier 3 across the board, especially a Tier 3 Martial Artist from parallels with Kit Fisto, his focused specialization in Martial Combat and high performance with Shii Cho. He lacked much knowledge about the exact Higher Mysteries other members of the First Watch Circle specialized in, but his own capacity with Control and Alter powers higher output and control, with greater consistency than Rhanna Tae.
    Maybe my own perception of the range of skill and powers for different Tier 3's in limited. For example, Tier 1 could include Darth Bane, Yoda, Darth Sidious and even Mace Windu. There are some clear gaps between all these characters, and some can be recognized as "low Tier-1's," "mid Tier-1's" or "high Tier-1's." By extension, perhaps Lucien Draay might be a "high Tier-3" while Rhanna Tae might be "mid Tier-3" or "low Tier-3."

      I definitely say high tier 3 for Lucien. Despite the merit that is given to him in vs vids he tends to come off as the inferior to the other combatant despite trying to paint him in a good light, I don’t know if it’s cause Lucien hasn’t fought anyone of similar caliber to say eeth koth or Assajj ventress or if it’s cause of his use of form 1 and rather simple but not rather brute like approach. Which is a shame as I find Lucien sort of underrated, he’s definitely not going to be a challenge against the likes of obiwan anakin and especially yoda or mace, but I think he could give some of the council masters such as kit fisto or maybe saeesee tinn a run for their money.

      @geoffreyedgson7875 3 года назад +1

      @@robertgeorge4602 You nailed one factor in my own analysis right on the dot: "drops the ball...a lot."
      To me, CONSISTENCY is a very large factor in recognizing and mapping which "tier" a character fits into; you can have one-off or sparring moments of good tactics, impressive power, insight, or knowledge and applications of different abilities; but determining which occur the most with the same degree of quality juxtaposed with what a character does not do impacts whom they stand parallel with and whom is definitively less developed or greater than they are.
      Rhanna Tae:
      Physical capabilities: she has continued to function and move through even lightsaber injuries and other hits. She is highly active, acrobatic and evidently does not suffer performance in drawn-out engagements. She is fast and has good timing, is notably agile and has great balance; yet she does lack applied strength and her own sphere-sense from her torgruta heritage is compromised by her own focus. I initially thought Rhanna Tae would be a Tier 2, but agree with Jensaarai's more dedicated assessment and recognize her as a Tier 3.

    • @geoffreyedgson7875
      @geoffreyedgson7875 3 года назад +1

      @@robertgeorge4602 Martial Arts and Tactics: Rhanna Tae does indeed align with Ataru's moveset and mentality of rapid action and acrobatic techniques. She is impressively precise with each attack which does land, indicating impressive timing for a rapid and fast-paced style, and has not been depicted applying showy flourishes in her bladework. SHe clearly favours the "Hawk-bat Swoop" instead of the "Saber-Swarm" approach and can move fast enough to avoid getting shot; but ironically has failed to win against singular opponents more often than her wins over multiple foes. Also, Rhanna's own technique doesn't apply developed combinations or multiple strikes too well, and she consistently doesn't apply the sheer range of moves that other Jedi swordsmen do apply: thrusts, flank subversion, parry/counter combos; and her own defense consistently underperformed when somebody hit her: Lucien Draay, Del Moomo.
      Other implied or confirmed Form 4 practioners could evade or utilized basic blocks for their own defenses, and would vary the different moves they applied and more pressingly, which targets they aimed for: Ven Zallow (whom did block or evade Darth Malgus' barrage), Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, Quinlan Vos, Dara Thel-Tanis.
      Tactically, I would describe Rhanna as acting with the belief that she can and has seen every factor at play, not the typical "action without thought." She is consistently surprised or her opponents outperform her expectations, which lead to disaster. She doesn't act only on instinct, however, nor is she a calculating fencer or somebody whom desires to win and survive with whatever weapon or tactic open to them (blasters, telekinesis, illusions, etc.).
      Even measured against other Recognized Tier 3 characters: Darth Maul, Qui-Gin Jinn, Kit Fisto, Sora Bulq and Saesee Tiin: all of them have technique with a broader range of moves and options, and apply them with greater consistency and results on offense or defense juxtaposed to Rhanna Tae herself.
      While Tier 4's such as Rham Kota, ROTJ Luke Skywalker and Quinlan Vos mix their physical techniques with different tactics, developed Force abilities, and broader knowledge of other weapons, styles and tactics somebody else can use against them. Imaging different scenario's these Tier-4's may respond to against how Rhanna Tae would respond, some clear differences in performance and success come up.
      Rhanna Tae is a specialist, but the aforementioned list of other Tier-3's apply their narrow skills-sets and mindsets to multiple different situations with stronger success, and even have greater consistent versatility if different areas of combat than her. Even Darth Zannah (whom I view as a Tier 3) practice a singular fighting style and approach (defense=>Sith sorcery) and escalates in a similar way that Rhanna does, but Zannah's individual components (her weapon, her pure defense, and counters to Force powers and other weapons) actually have more consistent results if you split them into independent factors. While Rhanna's own pieces are too fragmentary and in one of them fall-short, she's stopped in right in her tracts.
      Furthermore, additional characters from lower Tiers have a broader range of options which they pull out on multiple occasions, whether lightsabers or the force: Quinlain Vos will hit somebody with telekinetically thrown objects or his boot in equal preference with his lightsaber. Rham Kota and Darth Wredd are pragmatic opportunists whom have shown more abilities along different options juxtaposed with Rhanna Tae. She doesn't apply thrown objects, or the environment as a weapon, she exercises the force out of frustration, she has a clearly less flexible technical background, and all three remain consistent and composed no matter what comes their way while Rhanna's suffers when she looses control or goes in alone.
      However, Rhanna Tae's capabilities do have strong degrees of quality in their own right, and she is far from inactive in regular practice and decisive action. Her speed and intensity are certainly above a run-of-the-mile average Force-wielder whom would fall into Tier 6 (proven when she overwhelmed Zayne Carrik), and the quality of her singular technique and mindset is notable measured to other Tier-5's (Siri Tachi, or Maw). However, characters with a similar approach could clearly outperform her at her own game since they have more tools to work with or use the same tactics better: Ven Zallow, Boca'seca, Nadar Vebb or Adult Ashoka Tano.
      I'd recognize her as a Tier-5 or Tier 4.5 Martial Artist and combatant due to these factors.

      @geoffreyedgson7875 3 года назад +1

      @@robertgeorge4602 Force Abilities: To look at this matter, I often address the different Branches of Force training: Control/Sense/Alter, or Body/Mind/Offense depending on which order somebody examines. Then address the different levels in power and strain behind such feats, and their knowledge mixed in for a round-out picture.
      Often, Tier 3's have all the basics covered in each branch and choose one to particularly elevate their capabilities in, and are marked by their comparative disinterest or ignorance of higher skills or abilities in the others.
      With Rhanna Tae, she only learned about Foresight, and in an extremely narrow way. These relate to the Sense Branch, and otherwise she applied Telekinesis from the Alter branch and Forece-augmentation from the Body branch.
      Different Jedi often apply the former in very utilitarian ways and show reasonable mastery my lifting, pushing, pulling or throwing different objects. However, Rhanna has only applied Alter powers in extremely basic ways, not even to easily disarm somebody of a weapon and I don't recall her lifting any particular objects either. However, it does make sense that the Alter Branch were her least-developed area since she did invest so much into her role as a seer, seeing the future but ironically doing little to impact the present and build a specific future directly.
      Other Jedi and Sith explored the Alter Branch through investing different abilities, exercising various telekinetic methods, or performing alchemy and spells to literally change and create other living entities. The list of different powers from this branch is very long, and Tiers 5 through 4 have all applied it in various ways from knock different enemies aside to precisely changing their environments, building and changing mechanical creations (Meku-Duru), casting out with pure force power (some debate if Force-Lightning is an Alter or Control Power), or even inventing their own unique powers (Kit Fisto's Force Water Orb, or Jerec's Force Destruction). Even defensive powers like a telekinetic or Force-lightning Bubble, and Darth Zannah's Force Tendrills would fall under Alter powers. And Rhanna's only display of them was the shatter a glass Ceiling.
      On the flip side, she did directly apply Control powers through physical augmentation very often; gearing towards speed, precision and agility. However, she evidently did not bolster her strength to a similar high degree and never learned similar powers such as Tuitiminus or Force-healing.
      Rhanna Tae's Sense branch powers were her primary focus, as I believe that Foresight relates to this branch the most. However, she was never depicted applying the Jedi mind-trick or other telepathic powers, and neither was she an empathetical individual either. Also, she failed to remain very aware of either somebody she was chasing or even working alongside with since she got backstabbed by Shel Jelivan despite knowing she was in the room and now and enemy, and she failed to sense a happen-chance event like running to a swarm of Rakguhls.
      Rhanna Tae can clearly apply certain powers very well, but on a consistent level she either chooses not to apply them, or "drops the ball" and lashes out. To follow a similar avenue as the one in this Video: Anakin Skywalker had similar patterns of great talent and inconsistent applicaitons. Yet I would describe him as favouring the Alter branch ahead of everything and he would apply Telekineses in creative ways after somebody else threw it at him.
      Rhanna Tae's power-level is extremely high, since her talent for Foresight was so strong and volatile, and she managed to damage a whole building. Even the consistent quality and power behind her narrow powers can reflect this considerable degree of power.
      However, against juxtaposed with other individuals, most Tier 4's and 5's apply different skills from various branches of the Force with more consistency than she has: Rham Kota's own foresight was more exact than her's was, Darth Wreed could cloak himself from hundreds of different Sith, Alter his environment more casually and calculatingly than she has, and his own capacity with Control/Body mastery powered through similar injuries and gave him higher output than Rhanna did (heck the guy took a lightsaber hit the his face and kept fighting). Tholm (another implied Tier 4, or perhaps 4.5) could use all the standard Jedi powers at the drop of dime mixed with impressive Force-Stealth and even some prominent healing powers, and he could sense other Force wielders on the same planet as he was very successfully.
      Moving towards other Tier 3's, I disagree with Rhanna's placement in this Tier as others in the same branch are similarly specialised but unlike her they can still apply multiple fundamental or intermediate powers with greater consistency:
      -Qui-Gon Jinn was a philosophical academic whom could sweep away droids and use projective Telepathy with Kenobi from hundreds of meters away, or even mind-trick a Hutt, once. He apparently favoured the Sense Branch similar to Rhanna Tae, implicitly, but could draw from other schools of the Force or had knowledge of them in greater ways than she every displayed or perhaps even trained in.
      -Kit Fisto specialized in his aquakinetic powers and preached restraint where possible; yet his own telekinetic powers were not lacking either, he could apply the Jedi Mind-trick easily and apparently even forced Force-bonds with Jedi to the extent of projected Telepathy (having a mental conversation with Ayala Secura while both were submerged underwater on Kamino).
      -Asajj Ventress could be an ambush-predator with the Force yet also learned higher-level healing trances, could perform certain rituals to animate dead corpses and had telekinetic battles with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on different occassions (only consistently overpowered by Dooku). yet she could use smaller applications of Alter branch powers, could sense where her own enemies were and elevated her own physical traits to compete with Council-Level Jedi Masters very regularly.
      Each of these and other Tier 3's apply standard utilitarian powers which Rhanna Tae either did not cultivate to the same reliable degrees, or deliberately chose not to apply anywhere. She did have the standard skills of any jedi with high magnitude and impressive talents yet the number of powers she did not apply is far longer than those which she did, and she never displayed a certain power-magnitude or academic knowledge leagues above theirs to make-up ground for this shortcoming (say a Tier 5's skillset with Tier 1 magnitude).
      Even ROTJ Luke Skywalker had a capacity to use Force-Deflection against Darth Sidious himself, could hide from Darth Vader and improved his force-augmentation to even outperform the Cyborg, despite orienting himself towards general combat and fighting Darth Vader ahead of everything else.
      While Attack of the Clone Kenobi had some impressive utilitarian and augmentation powers, to the point of gripping his feet on a wet surface to resist a Jet-pack, alongside the Beast-trick and Jedi Mind-trick and enough Sense defenses to accomplish as mission on Korriban inside a Sith Tomb without coming within a mile of the Darkside. Skills with Rhanna Tae hasn't displayed or had credit with (to my knowledge), however credit where it is due she has greater talent with the more advanced powers within the Force than Knight/Master Kenobi displayed.
      In my opinion, Rhanna Tae's practical shortcomings, her disproportional skill distribution, high talent in different branches, magnitude in the powers she does have, and her own clearly incomplete knowledge background would bump-shoulders with a non-Council Jedi Master or high-level Knight; a Tier-4 or perhaps a Tier 4.5 as a specialist with poor countermeasures and below-par utilitarian Force skills.
      To me: Physical=Tier 3, Combat=Tier 4.5, Force Powers=Tier 4.5.
      Overall=Tier 4.5 (between Tier 5 and Tier 4).

      @Emperor Vowrawn why add spirit kun instead of kun in tales of the Jedi before his big sith ritual??? That’d make more sense to have him in original body to use form 6 against the other form 6 duelists rather than being cheap and have him in ghost form from his sith ritual that used thousands of mussasi soldiers.

    • @MusicFan752
      @MusicFan752 3 года назад

      @Emperor Vowrawn no that’s what I mean, kuns spirit after the ritual is just powerful that aside from being a spirit that doesn’t have a body, it’s not really fair to include spirit kun, it’d be better to have kun pre ritual to pit with the likes of revan and krayt.

    • @eduardomartinez545

      @Emperor Vowrawn how about we throw force aspect out of the window and just focus on pure martial technique? Also, I don't think Revan is out of Krayt's and Kun's league in force abilities: In fact, I'd say that post seed infested Krayt is on par with Revan, especially when we take shatter point into acount, which could give him a one shot kill, albeit unlikely due to having to make physical contact with him. and although I don't see Kun as equally powerful as Krayt and Revan, I don't see him to be so behind as to be put out of commission by force power might. still, if force powers does make this matchup uneven, then just contrast martial style without taking force powers into account.

    If your still looking for a good person to pair Darth Zannah with for a post mortem, why not Lord Odion ? I know, he wouldn’t be my first choice either, but he is physically powerful, capable with the force and a skilled duelist to the point that he could be a threat to Zannah. And since this isn’t a match but just a. Skill breakdown it doesn’t matter if they aren’t dead even.

    • @Jensaarai1
      @Jensaarai1  3 года назад +11

      I've actually been toying with that match-up for a while, especially given that both rely on mental manipulation. As I see it, it comes down to who is more susceptible to the others' influence. If Zannah is successful, she either breaks Odion's mind or clouds his perceptions with illusions, but if Odion is successful, he forces her to break out of the defensive posture that is her greatest asset.

    • @zackthezabarak739
      @zackthezabarak739 3 года назад

      So it’s a battle of wills? I could see it being a tough contest: Zannah was able to out will Bane at the end of their duel, but Odion lives and breathes on causing aggression in his enemies and he’s had decades of practice cracking the wills of force sensitives, even if they weren’t on Zannahs level. If nothing else I believe he would be able to influence her to go on the offensive, whether it would mean with her blade or her magic would be another debate.

      But I’m glad to hear you like the idea! And while I understand you probably want to do a proper match, I feel they’d work well as a breakdown pairing because of their similar abilities. Plus for practicality you have already given Ranaa her own breakdown, and it saves you some time.

      Zannah can easily mindfuck Odion but Odion would force Zannah to be a martial instigator which is a disaster for her.
      But Zannah's defense can hold off Odion.

      @Greensaber- Gemini. Zannah could def wall and counter Odion in a lightsaber duel with no issue.

      Odion would get mindfucked but I think Zannah would get effected by Odions powers because she doesn't have any counters to it (at least that I'm aware of).

    Lucien Draay vs Antares Draco vs Quinlan Vos: Draco is a master fighter who faced opponents of great skill and he casually cut through low level sith like butter. I would view him as tier three( lowest possible skill level is Tier Four, though I’d say he’s better than Kota and Maybe better than QuinlanVos though I say maybe because Vos has faced duelists of similar caliber and his use of Vapeed would give an edge against both Draay and Draco due to their passionate natures ) because he has great developed skill and raw force power but similar to Anakin and Rana he over extends and let’s his emotions overwhelm his sense. I would say he is easily on par with Ki Adi Mundi, except Draco is likely a Niman specialist. He doesn’t get to duel with higher tier sith except for Darth Havok and Force pushing Darth Talon, but he bested Roan Fel, droves of lower sith, Endured Celeste Morne the best outside Cade Skywalker and Darth Krayt and was considered the best fighter in the Imperial Knights. He would be a worthy opponent for Lucien or Vos.
