A little late, but to be clear, this experiment was not about ordering pizza, it was about testing the intelligence of her AI, which includes creative thinking. Not reading out credit card information is probably a good thing, but completely giving up when one attempt at payment doesn't work shows that there are still improvements to be made on the AI. Obviously Vedal isn't so stupid that he doesn't realise the pizza place would try to help a customer who's at a similar level to Neuro, rather than making it difficult for them. But the point isn't to be as realistic as possible, it's to push her to her limits and see what she can and (importantly) can't do. Anyone can program a macro to go to dominoes' website and order your usual order, and you don't need anything nearly as complicated as a LLM to do that. So getting pizza to be automatically ordered is not the problem that he's trying to solve. Hope this helps put things in context.
The British English long "ah" (as in "father", same as US English, "rather", unlike US english, many foreign words with "ah" or "aa" spellings or approximations like "Saab" and "Dahl", RP versions of "can't", "plant", and non-rhotic "ar" sounds like "large" in this case) is distinct from the British English short "o" (as in "bother" to contrast "father" which are the same in US English, or "lodge" in this case, but in general in any syllable with the normal "o" sound). US English does not have a distinction between "o" and "ah", and does not really have short and long vowel sounds (so for example, "sob" and "saab" merge in most American accents), but it does have the rhotic "r" (so "baa" and "bar" are very distinct, unlike in RP), and these combined is where the confusion is coming from. So Vedal is saying "ah" where the word contains "ar" because his mildly northern english accent is not rhotic (it's more similar to RP than, say, west country (pirate) accent, the classic rhotic British accent). But an American, or an AI that is interpretting his speech as if he were American, will interpret the "ah" sound as the short "o" sound, even though it sounds nothing like how Vedal would say "o". If he said both "large" and "lodge", it would be easy to tell the difference. On top of this, Americans often percieve the RP short "o" sound as the US English "aw" or "au" sound, even though they are different, and distinct even within RP. So for example, in RP, the words "cot", "caught", and non-rhotic "cart" all sound distinct, but an American would percieve the first two as the same vowel meaning (despite different sounds and lengths), both as "caught", while percieving RP "cart" as US "cot". In fact, US english may merge their own "cot" and "caught" and drop the "aw" sound for the "ah" sound entirely. Chatting.
I'm looking at their menu and website. Mountain Bounty pizza isn't a menu item, but they do sell pizza, and "Mountain Bounty Farm" is one of the their sources fresh ingredients.
